..and he took my horse (Marian goes to Market - Open/Guy?)
Marian had been sluggish to get out of bed that morning, the coy call of such softness was too much temptation. She could see how this place would lure people to sleep all day. Of course that wouldn't do at all, so eventually she dragged herself out of bed and after a refreshing wash, she dressed. Not overly concerned with her hair she left it down rather that twisting it back to hide the short cut of her punishment.

A few minutes gave her time to eat and she setout to the street. She needed to find a better place to keep her horse than simply tethered in front of her home. Horses needed room to move and be horses. Much to her startled amazement there was no chestnut equine waiting for her outside, had her horse been vanished away like robin's cave? Marian hurried back in and threw the door open to Robin's dwelling, fearing the same had happened to him.

No sign of him but a rumpled bed and one used cup. The place was still furnished but no one was home. What did this mean? Of course...it meant he'd taken her horse. The door slammed rather solidly behind her as Marian left Locksley's apartment and once more set off down the street. He could have asked her! Not like she would have refused him, but she would have insisted on going with him certainly. And why should she? But to take her horse? Without permission? Without even the courtesy of asking? That was thievery!

A dark scowl crossed her fair face, warm summer breeze toying with the short dark lengths of her hair. Marian was not even sure where she was walking to but she assumed like all else here she would know when she arrived. Around the next corner she found her answer.

The market stretched on as far as she could see. Booths and vendors with all manner of foods stocked their displays and talked to each other or their customers. The rich yeasty smell of fresh baked bread hit her and make her weak in the knees. A basket was pressed into her hand by a helpful older woman and Marian began to wind her way through the stands, looking at the most delicious, fresh and blemish free fruits and vegetables she'd ever seen! This was a pleasant distraction to say the least.

"Thank you." Marian smiled at the kindness of his words, there was the Guy she held faith in, even now he was concerned for her and her father. If only Edward had someone looking after him , if she but knew that she would feel better about this place.

"I am sure there are needs here, and if I may be so bold as to say, they might suit you better than previous occupations." It was as close as she had come to outright saying the Sheriff was evil and Guy had been deceived by him , tricked into helping to foster the man's own dark ambitions. Guy was not an evil man, simply a man with desires who had been taken advantage of by Vasey.

"I would welcome the company actually, this place is still very strange to me. I haven't been here long and people are..odd." Her meeting with Bruce Wayne had taught her that. Marian stopped and drew Gisborne to stop with her, "Guy,I have been informed that people here, even if from a similar place, may be from a different time in that place. Do you recall the day of the sheriff's archery tournament?" She needed to know if he knew of her future as well, he had certainly not reacted as though she was dead. So he could not have been from the same time Robin was. Her comment might then have attracted his notice the to short cut locks, which had been her punishment for feeding the quarantined villagers even after the pestilence had passed.

Guy paused with Marian, listen to her explain a new development to this strange City. He hadn’t thought of her being from a different time in their lives than him. Now that she did mention it, her hair was looking shorter than it had been at the time of their wedding. Like it had right after he had cut it to keep the Sheriff from executing her.

“I remember that day,” he said, nodding. He remembered every moment that he had with her. He just wondered how much she remembered. If she was from a different time, did she know that she had humiliated him at their marriage altar? Did she even know they were engaged?

“Is that the last thing you remember from Nottingham? The archery tournament?” What should he tell her? If he told her they were betrothed, would she be happy or go running off to find Hood in disgust? Like she did on their wedding day.

He reached out and gently stroked her short locks. “I think I may be from a later time than you. But not by much.”

"Shortly thereafter. I had decided to take holy orders as a way of taking control of my life." By now she had to chuckle at the humor of this city in it's timing to draw her here. "Apparently this place had other plans for me."

Guy reached to her, his hand sliding along her hair and she blanched a bit. Having Robin hold her was something she was more or less used to, the intimacy Guy offered shocked her. After a hesitation she smiled, but there was that maidenly reserve which drew a blush to her cheeks. She was still after all the same Marian.

"It is odd to think that there was a life where I existed and yet I've never lived it. I spoke with someone about it and they suggested perhaps this city offers second chances. Perhaps that is what it is, maybe it's not so horrible after all."

Guy pulled his hand back as soon as he noticed her reaction. He was usually able to stop himself before he took such liberties with her. But with this new place he had hoped…

He had hoped for a second chance. Could this City really offer him a second chance with Marian? He could do it better this time and make sure she didn’t leave him for Hood. He could do better by her. Perhaps he should confess to her what he had done in the Holy Land. But do things like that really matter here?

“Maybe we have more that just a second chance,” he said, voicing his thoughts aloud. “Maybe we get a chance to start again. Forget all the bad things that have happened and just start fresh. Marian, we can forget about the Sheriff and everything that happened before. We can have a life here without worrying about the Crusades or who is ruling the country.” Without Robin Hood, if Sir Guy had any say in the matter.

He looked at Marian, the woman he loved even after all she had done to him. Even if she said no to him now, as long as they were both in this City, he would have a chance to win her back. He would beat Hood this time and win Marian’s hand.

"More?" Marian was clearly unsure what he meant by all of that, but he seemed to have some very serious issues weighing on his mind. "I've offended you Sir Guy, I'm sorry." He continued and she smiled, happy indeed to hear his change of heart.

"I am so pleased to hear you say that, I have long thought you were a far better man than the sheriff allowed you to be, Guy! You've lived under his heel and been forced to bear witness to his cruelty, perhaps here you can be the man you were meant to be, as you said start again. Build your own Gisburne and live as you were meant to." She did wish he could be happy, and free away from Vasey's thumb.

"I could never be truly happy here without my father, but I am well provided for and I can not complain about the comfort afforded me. The wonders of this city have been kind and gracious to me. If this was indeed a place to have to spend one's life I can think of many worse options." Starving to death in a village cut off by quarantine for instance.

Guy smiled at her. She wasn’t turning him down. She wasn’t exactly agreeing to run off with him, either. But maybe if he became the man she thought he was, then she would forget about Hood and be his completely.

“Perhaps, if we cannot leave here, we can find someone to ask to bring your father to you,” he suggested. “It might seem cruel to drag him into this… This strangeness, but I’m certain he misses you as much as you miss him.” Marian’s attachment to her father ran deep, as everyone who ever saw them knew. Guy was a bit jealous of their closeness. He had always wished his own father had cared that much.

“I don’t have a new Gisborne yet, but I have a home and hired help. A housekeeper and cook, but she is still help. And not a serf.” He couldn’t tell anyone, not even Marian, that his help was a djinn. They either wouldn’t believe him and think him mad, or accuse him of witchcraft. Neither option was very appealing to him. He would just keep Jeannie’s origins to himself.

“I think there is a merchant over this way that is selling some foods we could get for lunch,” he suggested as he started to walk again. “Are you hungry?”
