Anyone for Attack of the Ant People? [Snowed in]
(For Dexter, Ace, Dean, Claire, Venkman, Firekeeper, Logan E.)

It'd been fun for a little while. Traipsing through the snow. It became a little more difficult as the snow kept coming; it simply wasn't physically possible for this much snow to drop like that. And, when she noticed the dog fighting to get free of what had to have been a little old lady now turned lump of ice and snow, Fred decided it was time to get inside. Well, only after trying to free the little dog from its frozen mistress, which didn't work out so well, seeing as the damn dog tried to bite her rather than let her help.

Fred didn't want to leave the little yapper out in the snow, now falling in clumps, but she couldn't stay out in it either. No, she started looking for some place that was still open and could take her. Unfortunately, the only place she found that still had its doors open, figuratively speaking, was an old movie house. Actually, Fred didn't mind it; she remembered her mom and dad talking about places like this, and she supposed it could have been a lot worse. She even giggled at the posters hanging up; yeah, it could have been a lot worse.

She didn't seem anyone around quite yet, and supposing that concessions weren't open, she settled down on one of the velvet like couches in the theatre's lobby - sure, it'd seen much better days, dust rising as she sat, but there was something reassuring about a place this old still standing. Plus, the place was a lot warmer than it was outside. She just hoped she wasn't about to be all alone, or maybe that wouldn't have been a bad thing. She'd done alone in bad times before...

Logan had finally decided to some in-depth exploration of this place. Ironically, the sky opened up into some serious chilly snowfall. Not having any warm clothing, he ducked into a dreary-looking movie theater to attempt to stay warm, rather than trekking all the way back to his apartment.

It's red walls, and broken glass gave it an almost cliche appearance to some retarded horror movie. Hopefully the damn snow stopped sometime soon.

"Hello?!" Logan felt he sounded retarded, but could it possible he wasn't the only stuck out?

The snow here was actually worse than anything Firekeeper could remember experiencing on the Iron Mountains. At least back home, it tended to stop after a while. But here, it kept falling, and falling, and soon the relatively warm spot near a grate that she and Blind Seer had been enjoying wasn't nearly warm enough.

Even Blind Seer was complaining, though with his thick fur she was sure it was mostly for her benefit. "That building is open," he said, plowing through the snow towards an open door. "Surely nobody will kick us out, my presence or no."

She didn't feel inclined to argue as her feet (wrapped in some thick socks purchased with some of the money she had been given and a pair of strange shoes that she had found) were almost completely numb. Both shook themselves off once they were inside, and Blind Seer sniffed at the air as Firekeeper made a quick visual sweep. "We are not alone," he told her.

"So I hear," she said, hearing someone call. "We here. Who are you?" she called back.

The snow was heavy and Dean in all his life, had not seen the likes. What was going on with this place? It was just messed up. He had gone into a store to get beer, a bottle of whiskey and when he came out, he couldn't get to his car safely parked in the alley near the movie theater. The snow was so high and the plows that tried to clear it didn't help. It was a loosing battle.

Dean looked about then headed for the theater. If anything, maybe he could see a movie, even though it looked as if it had been working for a while. But then some places one just didn't know. He had been from one part of the nation to the other, boarder to boarder, coast to coast and seen places that looked worn down, had better days and were still working.

Besides, it was freaking cold out! He was gonna freeze his balls off if he didn't get warmth. So the door was tried and he was inside, shaking the huge flakes annoying white stuff off his leather jacket. He looked about, seeing three people and well, a wolf. Interesting.

"Howdy," he called out, walking over. "So what's playing?"

Dexter was the next through the doors. He'd been trying to get home from work for what had seemed like hours. He was cold. Very cold. Miami never got cold like this, and there wasn't a stitch of warm clothing in his closet. He'd had to snag a jacket from somebody at the station, and even that wasn't as thick as it needed to be. He was freezing from head to toe.

Giving up on actually getting home, Dex ducked into the first door that he'd come to. Which happened to be some sort of old theater containing other people already in it.

"Hope I'm not unwelcome." he said, though at this point he didn't particularly care. They could try to kick him out, or ignore him completely. As long as he was warm, he wasn't going anywhere.

He didn't recognize any of them, though. That was a shame. It might have been easier to take being trapped in a place if he had known somebody. Well, no time like the present to make some new friends.

"I'm Dexter." He offered. Just as he said it, he recognized the guy from the library. The one who hadn't thought their show had been particularly interesting. Dexter wasn't the sort to sigh.

Fred has feared for a moment she'd be all alone, but it didn't look that way now. She stood up and walked over to the others, a bright smile for everyone, especially the wolf. Her head tilted slightly as she looked at it.

"Hi, Dexter. I'm Fred. Don't think anything's showin' right now, but then again, I don't think anyone's workin' right now anyway. There wasn't anybody here when I came in. Then again, I just came in, so someone might be somewhere else." The physicist doubted it, but she couldn't know. It wasn't like she could know everything.

"I gotta bad feelin' we're gonna be here a while, so we might as well get to know each other. Any of y'all ever read the Decameron? It's not bad. Read it once, or some of it. They were all stuck in a buildin' tellin' stories, but they were tryin' to wait out the Plague not a snow storm." Fred shrugged slightly, not suggesting the story telling just yet.

Ace was very happy to find the doors to the theater unlocked. If she was going to be trapped somewhere, at least this place could offer some entertainment. She walked in and brushed the snow from her jacket and hair. Looked like other people were dodging the storm here already.

"Oi, hope you don't mind another squatter. Reminds me a lot of Iceworld out there right now. I'm Ace and somewhere in this City is my friend, the Doctor." It was an old joke between her and the Doctor that would be lost on this group, but it came automatically after all the time they had traveled together. "That a real wolf, then? Wicked."

None of the others trapped here looked like they were employees, so Ace thought it was safe enough to reach over the snack counter and grab a box of gummy bears. She'd get popcorn and a coke when the movie started.

"What's the movie, anyway?"

Dean looked about as he walked over toward the rest of the group. It was a bit chilly inside but hey, he had beer and whiskey. He could see popcorn and snacks. This was almost a perfect place for Dean to be stuck in. He hoped they had some cheesy B-flicks, maybe even Godzilla would rock.

"Dexter, Fred, Ace," he nodded to them since they said their names, the rest he didn't know yet. "I'm Dean." He looked about then back to Fred as she mentioned the title.

Decameron.

Well he had to guess, wasn't porn. So it was some sort of book. He tried to rack his brain of the title. Many people thought Dean wasn't smart. but he was. He did his share of reading and research. Just didn't like it.

"Nope, can't say I have. Read Dante's Inferno though," He added which he also once lived through as well. Something he didn't like talking about. Didn't want to and it was bad enough he relived it every time he closed his eyes. Hence the drinking.

"Okay, I gotta ask." He looked to Ace. "Why Ace? And why Fred? Are they short for something?"

Blind Seer tilted his head right back at the woman who introduced herself as Fred and wagged his tail once for good measure. For the moment, it was best to show that he meant no harm--in his experience, some humans panicked over his presence alone.

"Lady Blysse," Firekeeper said, motioning to herself and using her human name. She didn't know these people nearly well enough yet. "Blind Seer," she said, twining a hand in the wolf's ruff. He lowered his head in a greeting of sorts, then set to work chewing the ice out from between his toes. To Ace, she said, "He is real. Not wicked. Fierce, never wicked."

Ace smiled at the the girl with the wolf. "I meant wicked like cool, not wicked like bad. Never had wolves in Perivale." Just cheetah people, she thought with a slight shudder. "Nice to meet you, Blind Seer and Lady Blysse."

She turned to Dean and offered him the gummy bears. "I'm Ace because my real name is naff, but I'm ace." She grinned.

She grabbed a few more boxes of candy and pulled her backpack off her shoulders. She moved her bat out of the way and shoved the candy carefully in next to the various cans of explosives. She wondered if anyone was going to start the movie soon.

Fred just smiled at Lady Blysse; at least one person was thinking of more than just how to gratify him/herself. It made her happy to think that people could be nice, and plus, there was a wolf to pet on, which shouldn't have made her as giddy as it did.

"Well, we can all pool our money or make a list of what we take, then we can pay it back once the snow is gone." If the snow ever went away. "That way Lady Blysse doesn't have to use all her money; thank you." She smiled at the young woman who seemed to be able to get her point across a lot better and with fewer words too.

"I am curious to see how big this place is, and to see if we need to worry about leaks or anything. It would be bad if we..." She paused and didn't complete her sentence; it might jinx them. "Just think that it's better to be safe than sorry."

Dean looked at Blysse and he really looked at her. She looked like she slept outside and begged for food. She hadn't had a good shower. He then saw the wad of money she produced and he got the feeling she either begged or stole it. Now he felt about two inches tall. Especially after Fred made her speech.

He walked over, setting his bag of beer and whiskey down. He reached into his wallet. He reached for Blysse and pushed her hand back, "Keep your money," he spoke more softly. He pulled the money out, held it up to Fred so she could see, "I got this one." It was two hundred dollars.

He walked over to the counter, dug around and pulled an envelop out. He tucked the money in, wrote a quick note. For the food, drinks and movie we watched. Thanks for the warmth. He held it up so Fred could see it and then moved over and slipped it under a locked door where the manager would be.

He moved back then pulled his jacket off then his outer shirt. He held it out to her, "Here, take this." He pulled his jacket back on. "If you two get cold, let me know, you can wear my jacket." He at least had a long sleep shirt on under his outer shirt and jacket.

"Okay," he grabbed his bag, "Who wants to go exploring?"

Now Firekeeper was well and truly confused. "But is greeting? Not need. Forgot to give when we met. Very strange greeting." New Kelvin had been strange, but their greetings had been relatively similar to those of Hawk Haven and Bright Bay, without the exchange of money. She looked over at Blind Seer and whined in frustration. "Just when I think I've come close to understanding two-legs, they do something and further confuse me."

"At least you can speak with them and not rely on an interpreter," he said, snuffling at Fred's hand. She smelled friendly. Good. "Speaking of which, I believe this 'Dean' wishes to know if you are cold."

The old wolf pride welled up in Firekeeper and she shook her head. "Not need. Cold winters before. Lived. No snow here, can survive in comfort. Besides," she said, patting the wolf's side, "Blind Seer keep me warm. What brothers are for."

He nipped at her arm affectionately, and she cuffed him playfully in return. It was quickly becoming apparent why the majority of her visible skin was laced with scars.

Lady Blysse wasn't the only one with a bit of pride. She gave Blind Seer a few more scratches before standing. There was a soft laugh at Dean's actions. "It's not like we'll need it in here; it's warm enough. Thanks." Fred knew just how the young woman must feel, or maybe something close to it. She'd gone a long time out in the middle of nowhere. But that was then, this was now, so she looked at Ace and Dexter. The other guy hadn't said much.

"Well, we can split into groups; it's not like this place is haunted or anythin'." Now that she'd said it, she had to hope she was right. Wouldn't that be just her luck? She looked at the wolf and woman pair. "If y'all don't mind, I really do wanna check out the projector. And, we might wanna check on runnin' water, heatin', electricity, you know the basics. Not that the projector is a basic; well, it might be when we go all silent like Dean here mentioned. Course, I don't do silent often, not usually. So, there you go."

Claire wasn't really sure what had brought her here to the theater. It must have been all the snow. She wasn't used to it, being from Odessa and living in Costa Verde, snow wasn't something you seen too often. Even in New York it hadn't been like this. Claire had only seen stuff like this on TV. She let herself into the theater and stomped off. She was covered in snow. It was cold, but she didn't feel the pain like most people did. She barely felt anything at all.

She shivered, and looked around. Apparently Claire was not alone and others had the same idea to get in out of the cold. The way it was coming down out there, they'd probably be trapped for a bit, but she supposed there were worse places to be trapped.

"Hey…" She said rather awkwardly. She still wasn't used to this place, and probably wouldn't be for a long while.

Dexter had spent a few moments listening to the other people. This was the second time he'd found himself in a group of people he didn't know, not knowing what to do or say. He thought that the lack of daily interactions with his sister and other people of his office might have been cutting him off from humanity even more. That was not a good thing. He really needed to build his personae back up.

He turned when he heard the new voice, having been left behind.

"Hi." He lifted a hand to signal that she was welcome inside if she wanted to be. It wasn't really his place, but it was sort of a public place. There was also way too much snow outside to really say no anyway.

He'd been thinking about the wolf and how he'd need to stay away from it if he was going to keep all the humans comfortable with him. The wolf would definitely react badly to him as every animal ever had. A lot of them were afraid of him. The pets he'd tried to have as a child had died off. Not of his doing, of course. But once he'd petted a turtle and it had gone into it's shell and never come out again.

Definitely had to stay at a good distance from the girl with the canine.

"I'm Dexter. There are a couple others here. Fred. Ace. Dean. A wolf. Lady Blysse." Yeah. He definitely needed more practice being with people.

Not knowing what else to do, Dexter threw another hundred in with Dean's. Just in case he ate more than the others. He had a big appetite.

Ace decided right away that she liked Dean. He seemed cool with everything going on and he was being nice to the homeless girl with the wolf. She didn't know what Fred's problem was with getting food while they were trapped here. Hell, if Ace was dumb enough to leave her place open with food all over the place, she would expect people to come in and take it.

But Dean handled the situation much better than she would have. She nodded her thanks to him when he put up the money for there food and entertainment. He was a very cool guy.

"Right then, we go in groups. One for the movie and another to make sure the loo is functioning." Ace had to give Fred credit for thinking of that one. The bathroom was going to be very important. "So who's with who?"

Ace noticed the new girl talking to the quiet guy. The more the merrier, right?

Dean looked about, seeing the new girl walk in and bring in a fresh round of cold air. He looked at his shirt that was offered then at Blysse, "Please, take it anyway." He then nodded at Fred's suggestion. "Great idea, Cutie. Okay we break into group. Fred, Lady Blysse, and Blind Seer here, you come with me. Dexter, you take Ace and the new girl here. Let us know if you find the restrooms," he was sure those won't be hard to find, "And another others that wonder in. See if we can find a warm place to hold up."

He looked up at the stairs then back at the women, "Ladies first," he motioned and in a way was half hoping it was haunted and half hoping it wasn't. He left some of his tools outside. In the buried Impala. If there was a ghost, well, at least they had salt to fight it with.

Venkman had had enough. He was all excited to see Attack of the Ant People, the first movie he'd snuck into as a kid. He hadn't watched it since then, and was curious to see how well it held up over the years. Unfortunately, while the scientists were trying to explain how vitamins derived from ants could mutate an entire town of humans into monsters, people started talking out in the lobby. That, on top of the unbelievable cold in this old theaterhouse, had made him cranky.

He emerged into the lobby and reprimanded the group. "Do you guys mind? I'm tryin' to watch a classic of the silver screen in here." It looked like they were about to split up anyway, making him regret the timing of his outburst.

"That's a wolf," he said, pointing at the animal.

Dexter took a seat in the lobby, not quite sure what to do just yet. There was a movie playing, apparently, but he didn't really like seeing things from the middle.

He didn't want to eat just yet, since nobody else was.

The girl with the wolf had gone off to explore the bathrooms, so he didn't really want to go in that direction.

The other girl, Claire, seemed just as nervous around people as he felt. He thought that maybe she might be a good one to talk to. Her nervousness might overshadow his own.

"So where do you come from, Claire?"

It took Claire awhile to realize that Dexter was talking to her, she had been lost in thought about everything that had happened to her and her family. She was thinking about Meredith and how she hadn't been able to save her. It was all so much for one teenage girl to have to deal with, but this was Claire's life on practically a daily basis.

Finally she realized someone was speaking to her, so she turned to look at him. "Od---Costa Verde, California." She couldn't even keep her story straight, what would her dad say? Still, there were probably several people here hiding who they were in some form or another and Claire didn't know what they would do if they found out about her, and she didn't want to find out either.

"We moved there, not too long ago. I used to live in Odessa." There, that should do it to cover up what she'd said.

Dexter nodded. He could hear the lies in Claire's tone and in her stuttering, but he wasn't going to call her on it here. It did solidify the idea that she would be a good one to talk to, though. They could just sit and lie to each other and probably neither one would question in this situation.

Maybe later.

"I lived in Miami. I'm really not used to the snow."

He had to think a moment to place Odessa, but then he did. "Texas, huh. I don't think I've ever met anyone from Texas yet. Space, yes. Texas, no."

Dexter smiled, trying to be comforting.

Claire figured that Dexter probably knew that she was lying to him. She wasn't nearly as good at lying as her father was. He did have a lot more practice though. She wasn't too worried though, she was sure everyone here was lying or had lied about something in their life.

"I'm not really used to it either." But it didn't effect her like many of the other people. She didn't feel it as much, at least not the pain from it and that worried her most of all.

"I guess it's kind of pretty." She offered. It wasn't exactly great that it had stranded them all here, but things could always be worse.

Wait. Space? He had to be joking, right?

"Oh yeah? Did you meet Marvin the Martian or something?" She teased.

"Spock." Dexter pursed his lips and nodded, still feeling very strange saying it. "You know, from the original Star Trek? You might be too young to know that show. But he's here. In this city. I threw a donut at him."

If it hadn't been obvious that she was new before, it was now. Dexter would have felt sorry for her if he'd known exactly how to do that. As it was, all he could think of to do was give her a general run down of the place.

"You've come to a very strange place, Claire. The streets move, so do the buildings. You'll meet people here that will surprise the everliving fuck out of you. And you won't ever get used to it."

"Spock? Really?" Noah had watched that show sometimes, and Claire had heard about it, but she was too young to know much about it. She'd heard something about a movie coming out for it though.

"I'm starting to realize that." She told him. She could handle strange though, maybe she'd fit right in here. Maybe no one would even notice a girl with the ability to regenerate herself. Maybe Claire could be herself and feel safe here, but she doubted it. And there was too much of Noah in her, telling her to lay low and be careful for her to try anything.

"I'll keep all of that in mind then."

Fred listened absently, watching everyone. It wasn't often the brainiac was quiet, but the quiet gave her a chance to peek out the windows higher up while she was looking. Her head tilted. Well, that was different.

"There's sun?" She walked around the lobby to get a better look. Fred's smile grew as she felt the sunlight. It wasn't very warm, but it was wonderful. Had things changed? Had the snowing stopped? Would they actually be able to get the hell outta here before they went crazy?

"I think we might be saved any bad movies or popcorn burns."
