Landon hadn't been able to sleep, which was typical so when he thought it was a decent hour, he got up, showered and dressed, deciding on taking a walk about town and seeing what there was to offer. He'd been here once before, and remembered that one of the eateries made one of the best cups of coffee he'd ever had. Like. Ever. So, he was determined to find said nectar of the gods this morning.
Dressed in well worn jeans, comfortable shoes, a t-shirt and a flannel button down, he headed out the door, jangling his keys to a tune in his head as he walked towards town.
It was still early, and there was a bit of fog around the ground, and everything was still. Almost too still. But it was peaceful and that was something he was really hoping was going to help him. He needed peace. He needed to be able to sleep or he wasn't going to be around for a mid-life crisis.
As he got closer to town, the smell of fresh brewed coffee led him to the Gardens Baker and Deli. He wasn't 100% sure if this was the place of the coffee sent from heaven, but he was sure willing to try now as his stomach growled.
He walked in, the aroma of fresh baked goods and fresh brewed coffee making his stomach gurgle again and he smiled. Hunger was good. Strolling up to the counter he perused the menu, finally settling on a large coffee and breakfast croissant sandwich. |

He liked to sit out on the dock and cast his fishing line into the lake. It was quiet, relaxing. Not that his life was overly stressful since he worked from home, and worked on his own schedule. Still, a little down time was appreciated. He liked the quiet, the peaceful atmosphere. People were out, across the lake. He could hear them from time to time, but they were far enough off that it didn't really bother them.
His son was with him, sitting beside him, both of them dangling their feet in the water. Scotty had his homework off to the side, despite the danger of getting his papers wet, if he caught something. They rarely caught anything,a nd even if they did, they generally threw it back in. Fishing wasn't so much about the catch, as the experience. At least, that was what Patrick wanted Scotty to get out of it. He wanted his son to be able to look back, maybe sit on the very same dock with his son one day, and remember these days, sitting there with his father.
Patrick didn't have much love for the water itself, but he did enjoy the serenity of the location. When he wasn't fishing, Patrick often worked on the landscape of the dock, making it more open and inviting to the neighbors. He was known to be a gracious host, he kept a cooler full of beer, soda, and juice in the boat house, and often took the neighborhood kids out for a cruise around the lake.
He wouldn't mind, if someone wanted to wander by for a chat, now. |
