Wayne never expected everyone to make it out of this battle alive. Honestly, he didn't even think he'd make it out. But if there was anyone he fully expected to make it out of the battle alive, it was the people staying back to heal people who needed it. Killing someone who devotes themselves to helping others is.. it's the worst sort of thing someone can do. And now he had to tell Milly what happened. There was no one else who could or should deliver that message. All these thoughts ran through Wayne's head as he made his way to the Hog's Head, where everyone had evacuated to. He could hear the cheering as soon as he got close enough and he knew that they'd already heard that You-Know-Who was dead. It was a time for celebration, there were just going to be a lot of people to mourn first. Trying to look cheerful for the people he passed, he quickly found Milly and, without saying a word, led her to the front door and pulled her outside. Good Christ, how was he going to do this? Despite the many hours the battle had taken, Milly did not sleep a wink of it. When she had first arrived, she was still petrified by Brie. After it had worn off she went into a fit of screaming at her own friends for not taking her side. After that she removed herself from them, staying seated in a corner and glancing out the window towards the castle every two minutes. Over the course of the night her anger did die down but not enough to want to be by any of her friends. Right now, there were people inside that castle fighting whom she cared about a lot and she wasn’t going to move from this spot until she knew that they were all okay. Even when everyone was cheering that Potter had defeated You-Know-Who, she smiled but she didn’t care at the moment. The bad guy was supposed to die right? All she needed to know was if Brie was safe. Was Rhona? Wayne? Sarah? All the older kids she looked up to were out fighting and she needed to know that they were safe. As soon as her eyes landed on Wayne she smiled, now looking a little less worried. She expected Brie to follow shortly after him but she didn’t. Her eyes narrowed as Wayne took her outside without a word. He wasn’t talking to her. He removed her from everyone else. As soon as they were outside Milly turned quickly to face him. Her hands were already clinched into fist. Her angry rose so quickly that she knew. “Where is Brie?” Her voice was calm. Too calm in fact. As if she was about to scream at any moment but she wouldn’t, not yet. She needed him to say it. She needed Wayne to tell her that she’s getting worked up for nothing and that Brie was fine, that she’s just injured and couldn’t make it down. Wayne would have liked nothing better than telling Milly her sister was all right. To tell her that everything would be okay and that she should get back in there and celebrate with everyone else. That the world was going to be a better place now that the war was over. He just couldn't sit there and tell her all of that. There was a reason Wayne was never someone who would end up being a counselor or anything in that line of work. He took a deep breath and hoped she didn't already notice the tears that were trickling down the ashes on his face. "She didn't make it, lass," he said, softly. He fully expected Milly to scream and pound his chest if she needed. That's what he was there for. He didn't know entirely what had happened, but he knew Rhona had been there and that she was a wreck, too. He was going to have to find her again soon, too. His pause said it all. Milly started shaking her head and it wasn’t until he finally said that that she actually began talking. “No. No. NO! NO! NO!” Using her fist she hit Wayne every where she could with each word. Milly’s knees gave out and she found herself on the ground. Not caring at all that she was now covered in dirt. How could she? That stupid selfish- How could she leave her? It wasn’t enough that her family was already torn apart they had to take Brie too? Brie, who never wanted to fight but just heal people? Brie. The last thing Milly was thinking when she saw Brie was that she hated her. Hated her for forcing her out of the castle. Instantly Milly began sobbing. If they just had let her stay. This wouldn’t have happened. Milly could have stopped whoever tried to kill her. This wouldn’t have happened if Brie pushed her out! This wouldn’t have happened if Jules, Natalie and Rhys hadn’t have taken Brie’s side. Milly shot a death glare at the entrance to the bar. It was their fault. Their fault for not taking her side. Milly looked up at Wayne but she said nothing. Anger and hatred were filling her up like a massive flood. “Stupid, selfish-” Were the only words Milly could get out between her sobs. She hated Brie for this and she was sure that she wouldn’t ever forgive her. Wayne expected and accepted everything she threw at him, even if it just compounded all all the aches and bruises he already had. He saw her expression contort towards anger and glares, heard her comment about stupidity and selfishness and he put his hands on her shoulders. "No, lass. Yer sis, she was one o' the least selfish people I ever met. Don't ye even think otherwise, aye? An' she needs ye teh be strong, an' be proud o' her. Lot o' people woulda died, if she hadn't been there. There's been enough anger an' hate tonight, lass, don' add teh it." The tears were still fresh on his face, but Wayne didn't really mind them so much. They were for Brie and Suse and Susu and the Proudfeet, even Creevey and Killian. So many kids lost, he had to try and reach out and keep from losing one more. He gave Milly a soft tug, trying to pull her into a hug. Poor lass, he couldn't even imagine losing as much as she had throughout the year. “Proud?” Milly threw herself away from Wayne and glared at him. It hurt for her to be angry at him like this when she was so happy to find out he was okay but right now, she didn’t care about anyone else, not even herself. “I should be proud that my stupid fucking SELFISH sister went and got herself killed? We needed her here! I needed her, my brother and my mother needed her to be safe!” Milly shook her head as she pushed him away. “Don’t tell me to be proud of her. I’m supposed to be proud that I no longer have a father and a sister? Go to hell Wayne!” Milly knew that she would apologize later but right now? She didn’t care. She just want to sit into a corner and cry. Cry till she couldn’t feel a single thing. As much as she wanted Wayne to hold her again, she was too angry to show him that she needed him. Shaking her head she pushed past him and headed towards the door. Before she could stop herself she went straight back to Wayne and hugged him. At least she felt better to let him know that she wasn’t really angry at him. Wayne has definitely been her rock this year and he was the one person that she couldn’t let him think she was really angry. Especially since she was sure that she was going to push her other firends away after this. After a few moments, she released herself and went back inside. |
