WHO: Emmeline Vance and Mundungus Fletcher
WHEN: Sunday afternoon.
WHERE: Em's messy flat.
WHAT: Her first visitor after returning from a heavy time away.
RATING: TBD

Emmeline knew she didn't have the messiest flat in all of England and Dung's flat wasn't the cleanest, but she still tidied up when he said he was going to see her. When her father told her he needed her to visit and that she'd be there a while, she tore her place up looking for the bare essentials instead of being rational and making a list. Seldom did he actually tell her to leave where she was, so she took it seriously and rushed. Now that she was home again it looked like a disaster area with clothes, papers and books all over. At least her livingroom was less of a mess.

She passed a mirror and wiped her face (in spite of the fact that she hadn't cried in about an hour) and brushed her hair back behind her ear with a sigh. Em didn't look atrocious but she figured she wasn't going to win any beauty pageants either. She took a deep breath and smiled at herself in the mirror in that reassuring way. Her boyfriend - yes, she mentally called him that silly term - was on his way and she was looking forward to his company. "Brave face, Emme," she cleared her throat and swallowed, "you've done enough crying." With a nod, she turned and headed for the kitchen because it was the tidiest part of her flat.

Dung knew that Emmeline's mother was ill, but he wasn't aware that she had died, not until just now. So of course, he made his way over to her flat, not particularly caring what sort of "mess" she said it was. Besides, it would probably never be nearly as messy as his flat, though in recent months, since they had begun dating, his flat had taken a cleaner turn.

So Dung apparated to the street outside her place, and knocked on the door. When she answered, his eyes fell on her own puffy eyes. "Em... I'm so sorry," he said as he wrapped his arms around her.

She had told herself even when he knocked that she wasn't going to cry. She had to be strong now like everyone said she had to. Somehow she even managed a weak smile when she saw him, though she figured it was because seeing him always made her smile. His words made that smile fade and she became choked up again when he held her.

Emmeline clutched him in return and shut her eyes, swallowing hard as the tears pricked at the corners of her eyelids again. Dammit. She sniffed a bit before trying to breathe deeply. Be strong, be strong... Shivering a little, she buried her face in his neck and began sobbing quietly against her better judgement. Em hoped she could have at least lasted until they had gone inside.

Dung wasn't used to dealing with crying women. It scared him, because he didn't really know what to say. So he just held her as she cried and pulled her tighter. But he did know what it was like to lose a parent. His dad died a while ago, and he remembered feeling like there was an empty hole left in his life. So he could sympathize. Dung still didn't know what to say to her, since he didn't remember crying like a baby. He remembered drinking and getting utterly pissed every night for a bout a month after his dad died. But Emmeline wasn't that kind of girl.

"Em, it's ok. Can I get you anything?" he asked awkwardly.

She lifted her head and wiped her eyes while shaking her head. Emmeline felt bad for just crying on him like that but she didn't know how to control it when it came on suddenly in that way. She thought she was fine, but then she'd been "fine" before.

"No, I..." She bit her lip and pulled away a little while wiping her eyes again. "P-please. Come inside. I-I'm sorry."

Dung took her hand and followed her inside. His eyes made a quick sweep of her flat. It was messy for her, but nothing like his place. He thought it was cute that she considered this messy.

He went inside and sat at her kitchen table. "C'mere. Sit down, Em."

Emmeline went in with him and pulled her chair close to his before sitting down. She took several breaths to calm down and found herself wiping her eyes a bit more purely out of habit. It was an afterthought that she raised her wand and locked her flat up.

Her voice was quiet when she actually spoke. "So... H-how's Doc? Everyone?" She looked around the kitchen and found more of her smile. "You would bring me into the neatest room in my flat."

"Everyone's doing fine," he said, then smirked. "Well, Doc and I got thrown out of the Hog's Head and now we have a life-long ban. Shame that." He reached out his hand and took hers. "See what happens when I don't see you for a while? I get in trouble!"

Dung was trying to make her laugh, something to lift her spirits. He just hoped it would work.

It worked; she did end up lightly laughing and gave his hand a squeeze. Emmeline shook her head and sighed as she looked at him. "What are we going to do with you boys?" Her smile grew. It was easy being comfortable and happy around him even if she didn't feel that happy in the first place.

"I'm not going anywhere now. No more trouble involving bans, hm? Before too long you'll have to just drink at home. You don't want that, do you?"

Dung's smile widened; it was good to see her smile. Thrilled that his plan worked, he squeezed her hand.

He laughed at her comment. "No, not at all. Suppose Doc and I should be more careful. Though for the record, he started that fight," he said with a grin.

"I spose the next time I go out, I should take you someplace nice," he said, with a hopeful air. He was trying to keep her mind on the future, so that she didn't dwell on losing her mother. Dwelling was never a good thing.

Em didn't want to dwell on the past. That was one of the reasons she had returned to her flat and her man - apart from her dad reminding her that's what she had to do. He was helpful as she knew he would be and her smile showed it.

"I'm sure he did," she smirked and didn't entirely believe him. She wasn't sure she wanted to know the details of the fight once he interested her by mentioning someplace nice. Her smile was a little hopeful. "Really? You wouldn't mind going someplace public that didn't require acting shady?"
