Rubeus Hagrid, Poem, May 1992
Name: Rubeus Hagrid
Format: Poem
Date: May 1992
Summary: A poem about one of Hagrid's favourite things
O to be a dragon, a symbol of the power of heaven-of silkworm size or immense; at times invisible. Felicitous phenomenon! Marianne Moore
A dragon is a special thing,
A very marvelous beast
An’ even though it’s huge it
Shouldn’t scare you in the least.
A dragon can be gentle
If you treat it with great care
Be sure the dragon has been fed
Before you seek its lair.
The babies are quite beautiful,
Intelligent as well
They know their mommies right away
Perhaps by sense of smell
I wish I had a dragon
They make quite splendid pets
I’d keep it in the garden
And let it eat courgettes
A dragon is quite useful
To have around the home.
You have to keep on eye on them
Because they tend to roam.
Dragons are magnificent
Their wings will fill the sky
People are afraid of them
Although I don’t know why.
If I had a dragon
I’d take it everywhere
And people’s jaws would drop
When they saw us in the square
Oh I wish I had a dragon
It is my hearts desire
And together we could surely
Set the night on fire.
