After allowing himself to be Evans' punching bag for an evening, James felt that Lily owed him at least a few hours of her time. So, for the last few days, he put his idea into motion by setting things up--a dinner, candles, music--everything. There was only one problem, and that was Lily's schedule. He managed to nick a copy of it, and he sat on his bed working out the final details. He would just have to go to Lucius himself to make sure she wasn't doing prefect rounds.
After lunch, he waited until most of the hall had emptied, and then he strolled just behind the boy making sure that no one else was around. "Oi! Malfoy. Let's talk, shall we?"

James ignored his parent's wishes that he return to Hogwarts by means of the usual transportation, being on the train to Hogsmeade alone just didn't seem a proper entrance, and the floo network was much too dull. Why not fly back to the castle? The weather was unusually warm for the year's beginning, and it seemed so much more his style. But now, being the day after New Years, and everyone had returned to school, it probably was high time he passed out his Christmas presents. They had all waited long enough for them, and he felt awful about not sticking around. Especially since Lily was warming to him. It wasn't his imagination, she was...flirting? And, he still wasn't sure what he thought about two of his best friends doing whatever it was they were doing. It didn't really matter what he thought though, did it? They seemed happy, and that's all James really wanted for his friends. Eventually, Potter grew bored with being alone with his thoughts and decided that everyone needed to gather around him. Now. His wand was in his hand before he could finish his thought, and he had spoke a spell that made the Muggle band The Ramones songs blast throughout Gryffindor tower. "Rise and shine Hogwarts campers. James Potter is home!" He shouted repeatedly and then opened his bag letting the presents spill out onto the floor.
