Prompt #04: What Song Best Describes You And Why?

What Song Best Describes You And Why?

So we had Desprez, and we had Isaac, but I think Father was secretly frothing that Juan del Encina was working for the Catholic Majesties. (Please... Catholic Majesties. May I say that epithet is entirely undeserved and a joke to boot?) As a converso, del Encina would have been better off in Rome, and it goes without saying that it would have benefitted his music, too, heavy and dreary as it is with the sheer melancholy of the Spanish Court. Ma, bene. At times he hit a nerve, touched a chord. I've always liked his

Todos los bienes del mundo.

The lyrics go like this. ) I thought he was right, Encina, and I thought... my virtù would endure. My house, my children would thrive. My plans would come to fruition, my honour restored by the Emperor himself. Recently it has been pointed out to me that "a better song by far," my opposite insisted, was

The Man Who Sold The World

which they no doubt believed a clever commentary on a temporary reversal of fortune and my squandering the Spanish votes in that... that ill-begotten conclave. What can I say. Perhaps they're right. I thought you died alone, a long long time ago... )

Prompt 4 - What Song Best Describes You?

What song? Well a mate told me that this American bloke, Iggy Pop has one... Cock in my Pocket.

Didn't give it much thought till I heard it.  I thought it just meant I was randy all the time. That's also not particularly true. Yeah well, so it is particularly true, but I can focus on what I need to don't I?

After a listen though, I took exception to that comparison as I rather enjoy romance thank  you. Works a damn site better than the direct approach I can tell you.

I reckon he was just jealous.

Prompt # 4 "What song best describes you and why?"

Uh, is it really pathetic of me to admit that the first song that comes to me is from this crappy country show I watched as a kid? If it weren't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all! Gloom, despair and agony on me! Seriously, I have the weirdest luck.

How about I Love Rocky Road? Gotta love Weird Al. And I love just about anything by Pasty Cline, especially when I'm sad and depressed. And I played Don't It Make My Brown Eyes Blue for three days straight when Cordy and I broke up. There isn't anything like good country music to make you more miserable.

Seriously though, if I had to pick just one I'd say it's Hakuna Matata from the Lion King movie. I mean, for one, it's a great song, sung by a farting warthog and a sarcastic meerkat. I mean, what guy wouldn't love that? And it's sung by the sidekicks and comic relief and hey, that's me. I used to resent it, but I've learned that, sometimes, being funny is worth its weight in gold.

I also like the song because it means no worries. Actually, according to the lecture Wills gave me and Jesse about it, it's Swahili for "There are no worries here." I know in the movie it kinda made Timon and Pumba seem lazy, but I like to think about it as focusing on the now. I mean, if I really started thinking about all the vampires and demons and people trying to open up hell dimensions and destroying the world, I'd go nutso. Well, more nutso than I am now. I'd much rather worry about what I'm doing now or my next shift at work. Don't get me wrong, if I see something happening I'll do something, but I don't go all Lone Scooby and go looking for trouble.

Prompt #4 - What song best describes you?

Hell if I know. What a ridiculous question.

Here Be My Magic (point, swish, shoot, baby oh yeah) by the Three Witches and I? No, no, the tempo is far too fast. And I don’t ever have the urge to ‘get funky with my walnut stick’. I do have good wand control, though.

How about Down Dangerous Dragon by Kick-it-good? My name means dragon, did you know? Or serpent. It’s also a constellation.

No, no, that’s not right either. I need to think of a song that encompasses all of my charm, charisma and magnetism, stunning good looks, immaculate dress sense and to-die-for body. Broom Handle Baby by Shove it and the Ups?

I don’t really know many Muggle songs. Some of the other students used to play music in the common rooms at Hogwarts, but the Slytherins weren’t exactly into all that mudblood mambo. The dungeons were home to a few half-bloods, though and I seem to remember one particular girl who had a thing for a Muggle singer I think was called Wheat Loaf . She used to play this one song over and over again. It was called: I'd Do Anything For Love (But I Won't Do That). I realise it’s a love song, but it’s also about a feeling being so strong that a man is prepared to do almost anything. That sums up my last two years at school.

That I would do anything for love, and I'll be there til the final act
I would do anything for love, and I'll take a vow and seal a pact

I could so easily have run.

Some might call me a back-stabbing, two-faced snake, but I’ve always been dedicated and loyal to my family. I did terrible things to keep us all alive and, if I had to, I would do those terrible things again.

Wheat Loaf did another song that I remember: Life is a Lemon and I want my Money Back. I think that will be my new anthem.

Prompt #4 - What song best describes you?

You're trying to make me laugh, aren't you? No? Well, I’ve been told Apocalyptica’s Hope Is Beauty is somehow appropriate. Please don’t ask me why, I’m sure I don’t know.

Prompt #4: What song best describes you and why?

Ah! Music is a passion of mine. As my grandmother was sister to one of the notable line of Vernet artists, it was natural that my mother believed her boys should be exposed to as many of the fine arts as our family heritage would allow. Sadly, my brother Mycroft is tone deaf and has no depth perception; however, it was discovered that I had a rare gift for music. Many a childhood afternoon would be spent with my violin as I worked out little tunes.

Music near and dear to Sherlock Holmes' heart. )

Prompt #4 What song best describes you and why?

...I stand by my earlier statement. You're very intrusive. I've never thought about this. Not really anyways. I like music, especially violins and piano. Both are very soothing, yet can express so much. That's what I think people have forgotten, how to express things without words. I know there are some people who show things through actions, expressions, and gestures. I think I get along better with those who don't say much anymore. Because I've stopped saying much myself besides what they want to hear or when something has to be said aloud.

#4: song call!

What song best describes you and why?

Oh, this is an easy one. I'm a 21st century digital boy all the way.

The lyrics say it all - dad the oblivious businessman, emotionally absent mother, spoiled brat kid who knows how to talk to computers better than people. It's me.

Prompt 4 - Song that Describes Me and Why

Oh, goodness, you'd think I'd be chomping at the bit for this one, wouldn't you? I am a fiend for music. It is my life. It is me. It is all I have in the world, at times. It is love. It is life. Some people turn to god or goddess. I just need a few instruments strumming out a melody, a harmony, something a little discordant, sometimes. I need music like others need heroin or cocaine.

It is my bliss and my need.

I suppose I could sum it all up with Tchaikovsky's Romeo and Juliet, especially in Symphony Number Five. It has all the elements that I have found within myself. I am more than the men that surround me. I won't go with just one facet of myself to share with my readers. There really is a great deal to me. I take great pride in all the things that people will and will not know about me throughout my life.

I am pulled apart and brought back together by this Symphony. I only wish I ever had the genius Tchaikovsky had. I will not know that sort of everlasting legacy in my music, but I hope to transport one or two people into another world with modern music of my own design.

It is when I hear this song, in particular, that I know that I must stick around in the world for a while longer, and listen once more. It is music that keeps me alive. It is my religion. Daniell Dennett couldn't be more of a genius for using it as his metaphor for religion in Breaking the Spell. It is definitely the only thing that brings me Home.

What song best describes you and why?

That’s a tough one, there are so many and they all describe different aspects of who I am. I’ll go with the first one that comes to mind. No Paradise by a band called Silke Bischoff. There was a point in my life when this song said everything there was to say about me, especially this:

A liquid sky like running ink
White crystals in a burning ocean
Crucified with needles
There's no paradise
Your blood is pouring down your arms
Your future in a sooty spoon
Crucified with needles
There's no paradise

I’ve made it past that, but it’s a part of who I am, and those words still resonate strongly with me.

Prompt #4: What song best describes you and why?

... So how's the wife and all the little therapists? Work-life balance working out for you? Ja? Nein?
So. How about a drink?
To whom it may concern, Help, I am being held prisoner at a quiz factory. Send a drink.
This therapist has a very sour, very disapproving face. I am convinced he can read up-side down. Better send a whole bottle!
Song. Song, okay. Alright. Listen- I don't use a radio. I don't need to. I am a radio. And you know that hideous whistling pitch that flings itself up and down and all around as you twist the dial between stations? That's pretty much the only song I really enjoy these days. My references are limited, you see.
Pick a song about a king. What's your favorite song about a king? That's the one we'll use.
Because, of course, whatever your favorite is, is also mine. For now.

He's put the pen down, but pulls it back with a determined flourish
On second thought, I'll take that one.. by that Sex Pistol kid.. "My Way".
Ja.

The remainder of the sheet is filled with little Anarchy symbols and punk-rock stick figures.

[Open] Prompt #4 - Song

I am not what an earthling calls a superhero, so picking a theme song seems a trifle silly. If I had to choose a song, I would lean toward Apocalyptica's "Nothing Else Matters." Forget the original band's rather depressive lyrics; these four cellos perfectly capture the joy of practicing slow katas with one's Padawan in the rain. Of course, nothing else has ever mattered but my Padawans, so perhaps the lyrics are not as inappropriate as I thought, at least in part.

But I would prefer to choose a sound. Which one? Flute or cymbal? The hum of a lightsaber? I have been told that this one is by far the most appropriate, and I suppose I have to agree.
