Prompt #2 - Family [Private]
I don't exactly have a family. Well, it's not that all of my blood relatives are dead. Instead we seem to have a mutual agreement to not care about one another without ever saying it out loud.

I don't even think I've met my mother more than one or two times in my life. She left me to be raised by my grandmother for some reason - I think she was embarrassed to have an accidental child by a boyfriend that her parents didn't approve of or something of the sort. Letters came from her every so often so I knew that she was still alive, but she didn't like my grandmother - her mother - so never came to see me.

My father? Don't know much about him other than that he was from New York and gave me my last name even though my parents weren't married.

I never really considered my grandmother family even though she harped on it all the time. She was one of those traditionalists, believing in hellfire and things like that. She didn't like me very much because I was born out of wedlock, but she saw the use in having me around to do chores.

I think I was very glad to leave when I finally did.
