I Resist the Muses

My life would be much easier if could forget a lot of my memories and have no more nightmares. I have constant nightmares because of the war and the things I did in it. Sometimes people come after me in these dreams. I haven't been able to sleep well for years now because of these dreams.

Even just getting rid of the nightmares would be good enough. The guilt will eventually become more bearable I think, especially as Marcus tells me that God is more forgiving than I think. Memories fade too.

I just would like to stop waking up in terror.

There are so many ways I could answer this question.

My life would be easier if we hadn't woken the Wraith. If one of the largest threats in this galaxy was still largely dormant, if we had more time to formulate a really good plan, if they were more manageable...

My life would be easier if we'd never met the Genii. If Cowen and Kolya hadn't taken an interest in getting their hands on our city, if we hadn't been caught off-guard during the storm, if we hadn't spent so much time and energy on them...

No, let's go further back than that. My life would be easier if I'd stayed on Earth. If I hadn't come to Atlantis, if I'd stuck with the Ancient outpost, if I'd let the first 'no' be the only one necessary, if I'd just put the whole thing out of my head and married Simon...

My life would be easier if I'd never taken the job at the SGC. If I'd continued to teach my classes at Georgetown, if I'd just kept walking my dog and hiding the trashy novels from Simon (even though he knew all my hiding places), if I'd been sensible instead of adventurous...

The truth is that none of those lives really would've been easier. Just different.

And I don't want them.

...*long pause*...

Actually, I think my life now is as easy as it's ever been. I no longer have any oath to worry about, there are no Silmarils, no father making my life difficult, no war, no fear of death or starvation, no Morgoth, no orcs, no responsibility to defend my country.

Now I live in a world where my most pressing concerns are getting my rent paid on time, and the discomfort of having to walk to the supermarket in the rain.

Actually my life would be easier if I had two hands. Curse Namo for sending me back to the Seventh age with only one. I suppose he thought it was funny. An artificial hand would be useful, if I could afford one, and if I had the patience to really learn how to use it properly. At least then I'd be able to open jars and tie shoelaces.

Wow, this one seems like a loaded question. Many things would make my life easier.

... Lots of times I feel misunderstood. People look at me as if I am a virus or worse. I didn't ask for any of this, but still there is no other place I'd rather be. My life helps me feel important.

I guess my life would be easier if I didn't have the need to be the best at everything. That in itself is the source of many fights.

Most of the time I wish people would just let me be. I think whatever gods there are that Obi-Wan knows me well enough to know when I need that quiet time/space.

I do know one thing - my life would NOT be easier with out him.

I can't really see my life ever being any easier. Maybe if I'd never joined the Air Force (though, you know, I can't see that being a very happy life because I'd have never learned to fly). Maybe if I'd ever learned to do as I was told without question.

That'd certainly make things easier, but it sure as hell wouldn't really be my life.

So yeah. It doesn't really get any easier.

A lot of things make me laugh. It could be any one of those things that inspires laughter. A good game of poker, Rinali's smile, a joke Rabi told, maybe a smudge on a window... all within the right contexts anything can draw forth laughter. It just depends on person. But you have to remember there several kinds of laughter. ...Not all laughter is good. Sometimes its quite bad. It all depends on what is happening at the time though.
