A quick glance on the calendar should give you notice that one of the most exciting events in town – the Allen County Show Choir regionals – are taking place in just two weeks.
This year’s competition promises to be a particularly exciting one. Carmel High’s Vocal Adrenaline, who have been shoe-ins to win for ten years, are working just as hard as ever to reclaim their crown. New to the scene, William McKinley High’s New Directions has been gathering strength.
New Directions are a bit of an upstart, and no one knows where they came from. Only last year. McKinley was home to what was arguably the worst show choir in the state. With a miraculous rise, they took their Sectionals with a stunning display of vivacity, enthusiasm, and some impressive vocal chops.
When asked if Vocal Adrenaline was ready for the challenge, coach Lucy Coase tersely stated that “of course we are aware of what is taking place. We are not worried as we have an excellent team, but will be stepping up our practices to prepare.” Choreographer Dakota Stanleys and New Directions coach William Schuester were unavailable for comment.
