WHO: Angela and Jason
WHAT: Good company and good food
WHEN: September 2nd, after 1
WHERE: Angela’s apartment
Note: Backlog to last Wed.
Oh, Wednesday, a day of no classes, no obligations, and nothing to do. Jason both loved and hated it. He liked being allowed to do as he pleased, but being bored wasn’t all that great either. He slummed around his apartments for most of the morning, cleaning absent-mindedly. When lunch rolled around though, at about 1pm, Jason stopped cleaning his home and took a shower. When he was clean and dressed in loose jeans and a blue flannel shirt (one of his favorites, despite the fact that whenever Desmond saw it, he made a face like the shirt had pissed on him!) Jason left his home. Leaning easily on his silver snake tipped cane, he slowly made his way to the apartment home of Angela.
Stopping outside her door, Jason put on his best ’I’m innocent, love me!’ face and knocked. Angela was one of Jason’s favorite rangers- she made a LOT of food, and anyone that liked to make food was Jason’s friend!
Well, she was also just such a wonderful person, the food was really only a bonus.
Angela smiled when she opened her door to find Jason standing there. "Hi," she greeted, "As always your timing is impeccable. My casserole is probably cool enough and I was just about to start a salad." She stepped back so he could enter, "Of course you’re going to help me eat it, right?"
Jason laughed and grinned. "Ah, Angela, you are an angel!" He moved inside, sniffing the air. "Oh wonderful. I mean, I didn't come just for food, of course, but I darn sure will help you eat it." He smiled and walked toward the kitchen, letting Angela move first and direct where he went. "I can to see how you're doing. I heard a few rumors through the grapevine..." Jason said, wiggling his eyebrows. "That perhaps you're no longer a single-item?"
Angela couldn't help but laugh. She shook her head, "Word travels fast. Yes, I'm seeing Desmond." She paused to shrug, still grinning "It sorta just happened."
"Desmond! That's wonderful!" he laughed a little though. "Maybe you can work with him so he will stop trying to destroy my clothes. He hates them." Jason chuckled and smiled. "I'm glad for you, that's great."
Angela shrugged again, "No promises there. Thankfully he seems to like my clothes. Now if I could just get some more food in him, I'd feel better. Though he isn't here so I think getting food in the two of us might be the better option. Would you pour drinks while I get the salad finished?"
"Well you look much better in your clothes. He acts like my flannel killed his puppy or something." he chuckled. "Yes, I'll take his food for now, I'm afraid." He nodded and moved to get drinks, "I'll have water, what do you want?" Having frequented her kitchen, Jason knew where the glasses were.
"So flannel is what your comfortable in, can't fault him for trying though. He just wants you to look the best you possibly can, even if that's what you don't want," Angela teased as she pulled out the remaining things she wanted to. "I'd like some milk," she said as she put the milk on the counter and began to chop up some carrots, "What do you think? Tomatoes or no tomatoes?"
"Yeah. And he does make styleish clothes. But honestly, me, the short hippy professor, in stylish clothes?" Jason laughed as he got his water and set it at the table. He poured Angela a glass of milk and then put the jug back. "Oh, tomatoes for sure. It's got to be colorful, as Jake is always preaching!"
"I don't know," Angela said as she started on the tomatoes, "he might like the salad before I put dressing on it, but I'm not so sure how he'd like the casserole even though I did follow the recipe." Tomatoes done she sliced some cucumber and added everything into the lettuce she already had. She mixed it and brought it to the table. "Okay, the casserole should be cool by now. You're making me glad I set an extra plate just in case."
“It would depend on the dressing, he likes oil and vinegar,” Jason pointed out.
"Jake would find a reason to eat it though," Angela decided, "and I have oil and vinegar. What kind of dressing do you want?"
Jason laughed, "Eww, not those! He's already gotten to you! I'll have Cesar or Ranch, if you have them. Either is fine." Jason licked his lips and sat up straight. "How are things with you, boyfriend aside?"
"I really only am in the mood for it once in a blue moon," Angela admitted about the oil and vinegar, "I was actually thinking ranch myself, so let me go get that." Angela got the ranch and a hot pad to put the casserole on. Once she had both on the table she got the casserole, "Things have been good. I think I might scare some of the new reds, but I'm sure they'll get over it."
"Wonderful, thanks!" Jason grinned at her, "Scare!? You're not scary Angela! You're the nice one. Well, they're all nice, but you are known for being the most...approachable of the reds." He grinned, "Just as I am the cutest and most likeable professor." To prove it, he big on a big smile and those huge puppy eyes. Right before breaking out in laughter. "It's all good anyways. Reds, you poor guys, they need to be scared." He paused. "Actually, I've been meaning to mention something to you that Ansel and I came up with. Would you be willing to chat with some of the students, not just reds, about being an active ranger?"
She wished she felt approachable, sometimes she just didn't. Her eyes lit up at Jason's suggestion, "That's a really good idea. Wait, you and Ansel came up with this? Ansel is actually behind people gathering together, in one big group?"
Jason had a bite of salad in his mouth and nearly choked. He swallowed and coughed for a moment. "Oh man! Wow, you're right, it does sound funny." he grinned, "Yeah! I couldn't believe it, but I think he was a little scared when I demanded he orginize it with me. He's a good guy." Jason smiled fondly and nodded. "We have experience, all the professors...but we're old, we don't know what it's like anymore. Or whatever, those kids may respect and like us, but I think they really need to speak more to active rangers. They need active rangers to get involved and show them some of what it's like. The good and the bad."
Angela dished out the casserole as she listened to Jason. Then she protested as she handed him his plate back, "You're not old. You might not still be active, but you know what it's like. Come on, Hank has got to be older than some of the profs. Still it's a good idea. They look up to us and it might make the transition to a team a bit smoother. They'll get to see us as people and know what we're about."
Jason giggled happily as she protested. "Aww, you're a doll. Yeah, Hank is older than me I know, but I'm pretty sure Aiden and David top the age scale around here. But since we're not active, we don't have the same impact to them. I mean, in normal school, how many teachers did you think knew what was really happening in the world?" Jason happily took a bite of the casserole and hummed. "Yeah. And it's good for them to get to know you guys, in case they join current teams, like your yellow."
Angela nodded, "It's still a valid plan, I'm not saying it isn't. It'd mean I know more about Adina other than she's slightly hyper and a friend of Penny's."
"Ha! Penny is hyper, no change there!" He smiled, "She's a good girl, hyper but honest and trustworthy. And if she or you guys need help, you know I'm always here if you want to talk." He smiled and dug back into the food. Oh, Jason lovveeddd food.
Angela nodded her understanding, "I will, if I need to." It was good to know she had someone to de-stress to on those days when a team member made her want to tear out her hair in frustration. Mother hen? No, not Angela. Angela almost rolled her eyes at the thought. Instead she dug into the casserole. Yes, this had turned out good. "So, new recipe worth repeating?" she teased even though she'd already decided it was.
For a few moments, Jason didn't answer, he was too busy stuffing his face. At one point though, he gave her a thumbs-up and a silly grin. Angela had yet to make something Jason didn't like, but Jason was a known pig. Food was his love, but damned if he never gained a pound. Ok, that was actually from working out, which he did despite his leg. Once he'd finished most of the plate, he decided to answer. "Oh yeah. Very good. I'd ask to learn it...but why should I, with wonderful cooks like you around campus?"
"Would you be able to cook it even if one of us did try to teach you?" Angela teased. Jason was awesome, he was always willing to help her eat and since Angela wasn't a big fan of leftovers it was a good arrangement, their friendship.
"No. Nope, I cannot cook." He grinned and winked at Angela, "Ok, will not. But still. Although, Ansel and I made a cake and it was good! Even though I got flour all over, did you hear about that?" Jason laughed and grinned, thinking about it. "Oh man, his face was priceless! Poor guy, I'm not sure if he wanted to kill me or run screaming."
Angela's eyebrows arched, "You and Ansel made a cake? Oh yeah, Ansel's gonna mention that for the rumor mill. Seriously though? That’s..." Angela trailed off with a frown. How much did she know about Ansel except that he fixed anything her team needed without question and refused to stick around for chit chat? "You know," Angela said frowning, "I'm not sure when the last time I actually talked to him was."
Jason nodded happily before taking a drink. He gave Angela a look as she frowned and spoke. Jason swallowed and sighed. "He's a loner, no doubt. I wouldn't mind bugging him more, for cooking lessons and all." He smiled at her, putting an elbow on the table and setting his chin in his hand. "The other day I almost fell down the stairs, when the elevators were broken near my class. Ansel came out of nowhere and helped me down the stairs." Jason smiled, "He chatted with me, like a real human!" Jason laughed, "Ansel is a great guy. I'd like to talk to him more, frankly. But he's a shifty bugger, likes to hide away."
"Yeah, but he's always around when anything needs to be fixed," Angela nodded before she frowned, "Are the elevator's fixed?"
"Yeah, they worked the next day, so he fixed them. Or, he told someone about it. Either way, I was able to use them." He smiled and played with his fork a little. "I like Ansel, he's a nice guy. But I don't know much about his history, I have to say. I wanted to ask, but he's so guarded. And I don't want to ruin the little friendship I've built with him." Jason grinned, eyes shining.
"Maybe when the time is right you can ask him," Angela suggested, "I'm sure there are a lot of people that want to know what happened to make him so stand-offish. But what about you? What have you been doing besides plotting with Ansel to make us active rangers busy and coming over here to eat my food?"
Jason said, "I hope so. Jake's been lonely, but was...Hm. I don't know, he's been off about dating someone within the PPRA. He seemed to like Lindsey though." Smiling, he finished off his helping of food and licked his lips. "Oh man. Desmond is one lucky guy Angela."
"I'm glad Jake might have found someone, Lindsey too," Angela smiled. She frowned at her food, "I'm not sure how Desmond feels about my cooking. He'll take things from me occasionally, but he was over for most of yesterday and I couldn't get him to eat anything. He said he wasn't hungry. I know I was. Maybe he just doesn't like my cooking and has been taking things I offer to be polite."
A frowned crossed Jason's face. "But...you're a good cook! I mean, not that I'm the best judge cause I'll eat anything that isn't moving, but still." He sighed, "Huh, maybe he was sick? I know I've felt bad and not wanted to eat. Who knows? I'm sure you'll get him to eat in no time!" He chuckled, "Well, some. He would never let his figure be ruined, how else would he keep up the clothes business?"
Was that it? Had Desmond not been feeling well and just hadn’t wanted to say anything? Well, what was one more thing to worry about? Angela smiled at the joke, “And if not I’ll come find you to eat the food instead,” she teased back, “In all seriousness though, how are your classes going?”
