Who: Pansy Parkinson and Anyone Else
What:  Pansy stops for a sandwich and drink before heading home.
When: Sunday Evening; September 14, 2003
Where: A pub just on the far side of Diagon Alley called Ye Olde Pub. A great place for drinks and food.
Rating: G
Status: Incomplete

Late, again.  Her boss had owled her in earlier that afternoon, on a Sunday.  She was supposed to take Liam shopping for a kitten and her plans had been canceled.  If that was not enough to out her on edge, the fact that it was now past Liam's bedtime and she was just heading home was.

She sighed as she disapparated in front of the Ministry and apparated in front of the small pub near her house.  Her luck, Mathilde would already be asleep and not able to make her dinner.  It was better not to risk it and just stop for food before going home.  A drink, right about now, would be useful, too.

She walked in and took at seat at the nearly empty bar and ordered a glass of elderflower wine and a roast chicken sandwich.  As the barkeep set off to fill her order, she shrugged off her rich, green traveling cloak and hung it over the back of her chair.

OOC - Hi! This is just a short note to let you know that I'd absolutely jump in here but Aidan is involved in so many threads at the moment that I barely have time to tag back on them all. Please don't feel unwelcome, okay? *hugs* :)

Luna walked inside, brushing a bit of dirt from her hands. She had spotted a lovely arrangement of flowering ivy on the way over and couldn't help but take a closer look at the plant. She took a brief look around before heading towards the bar in search of a hot tea and a little something to eat. It was practically dead inside and she had no doubt she would be able to grab something quickly and go.

She took a seat and a menu and looked a bit. She had never been in here before and wasn't sure what to order. Turning to the woman a few seats down from her she made an effort to get some advice. "Excuse me, is there anything you would recommend?" As soon as she finished her sentence she was able to fully see who she was talking to. "Oh, hello Pansy."

Pansy had had a lot of growing up to do, considering her situation. This made her a lot more tolerant of those she'd been less than kind to at Hogwarts. And considering she was now borderline abomination to her pureblood society organizations, she she had begun to know what it was like to be on the opposite side of her sneers.

Nonetheless, she was not sure that Lovegood's usual aloofness would companion well with her current irritable mood. Smiling politely anyway, she offered the younger witch a greeting nod.

"Hullo, Luna."

She picked up her wine and sipped from it while contemplating Luna's question.

"Try the roast chicken. It's especially good when you've only eaten leftover pumpkin pasties all day."

"I haven't been eating leftover pumpkin pasties all day but I'll give it a go none the less," she said with a smile, pleasantly surprised by the advice. She put in her order and waited for her tea, swiveling her chair slightly.

Pansy had never been one to talk to her in school. She didn't hate the girl, far from it, the other girl actually intrigued her. She seemed to have this air about her, she couldn't remember a time when the other girl didn't have it. It was regal and yet undefined, it was simply fascinating. "I take it you like pumpkin then? There is a bakery on the other side of Diagon that has the best pumpkin scones you can imagine. Your taste buds will never be the same."

Pansy brushed back her long brunette hair and sat up straighter. She was intolerant of having bad posture, even in this setting. Add that to the ongoing list of her neuroses. She crossed one leg over the other and shook her head lightly.

"Actually, I find pumpkin rather drab. But Liam loves it, so we tend to make a lot of pumpkin pasties all year long. I never let food go to waste, so I am usually eating leftovers for lunch for a week."

She paused for a moment, not wanting to be rude when Luna had been nice enough to offer the suggestion.

"But I'll be sure to take Liam to the bakery sometime. He'd love that. And I have a weakness for cinnamon scones and chamomile tea. What was the name of it?"

Luna let out an understanding chuckle, smiling at the waiter who dropped off her tea. She put the bag in the hot water and watched as it changed colors, dipping the string and waiting for the right shade of flavor. "I understand that. My father used to experiment with recipes and whether they went well or not we would eat off of them. Those could be very long weeks," she said with a smile.

"Liam? Is that your boyfriend?" Luna smiled sheepishly, not knowing if that was too personal or not. "I haven't had their cinnamon scone but I'm sure they are good." Luna thought for a minute before chuckling. "I'm so sorry, I have no idea what it's called. I never mean to go there but the smell always pulls me in. I'll be sure to send you the name once I find it."

Pansy let out a soft chuckle. "I think I would have been frightened if my parents had ever done anything like that. They were all about proper five course meals made by the house elf. Just once when I was a kid, I would have loved to make pumpkin pasties with my mum."

She turned away slightly and sipped her wine. Perhaps if she'd had a better relationship with her parents, instead of just the pawn she used to have been, she would be on better terms with them now. Now it was just her and Liam.

At Luna's question, Pansy almost spat out her wine. She managed to swallow it down and then grinned with amusement. "My boyfriend? No, no. Liam is my son, Luna."

She shrugged at Luna's apologies.

"I am sure I will wander that way sometime. I'll keep my eye out for it."

She sat contemplatively. This was a relatively decent conversation. Maybe talking to someone outside of her normal circle wasn't such a bad idea, after all...

"Your son! Oh," Luna stated with a grin, "I'm afraid I didn't get much gossip when I was traveling, not that I listen to it anyways. How wonderful! How old is he? If you don't mind me asking. I've always liked kids, even if I don't really know what to do with them."

It was simple things like this that reminded Luna of how long it had been since school. People she knew were married and others had children. It was exciting and unknown territory and Luna couldn't help but worry sometimes that she was missing out on it. She was still young of course but at times she felt so stationary.

"You and Liam probably bake better ones, homemade always has a better taste in my opinion." Luna sipped at her tea, smiling at the woman next to her. She was glad she came in here to eat, this was a pleasant way to spend an afternoon.

Pansy laughed lightly. "You know, Luna, I don't think I've ever been as happy to hear that there is someone out there who doesn't listen to gossip. I, for one, gossip with the best of them. But, sometimes it's nice not to have the pretenses of rumors hanging over an adult conversation."

Before she could stop herself, she found the words pouring from her mouth. "You know, next time we make them, you should come share them with us. Merlin knows we make more than enough." She winced inwardly at the invitation. Though she had grown up quite a bit, that didn't change the fact that, while in school, she had not been one of Luna's fans. She was never one to back down from her promises, however. So the invitation would remain. There was always the chance that she would be glad she'd done it.

Smiling, anyway, she moved on. "So, where did you travel?"

"They always say there is a bit of truth to every rumor but I find truth can be so relative. If people are so curious they should ask themselves which is what I try to do but sometimes I'm afraid my curiosity can wander a bit too far."

Luna would be lying if she said she wasn't surprised by the invitation. She and Pansy had never really gotten along in school, in fact she remembered various teasing but this just went to show that people can grow to get along. She found herself smiling, not finding the need to hide it from the other woman. "That would be lovely, Pansy! It would be a pleasure to meet your son, you're really sweet to invite me. I appreciate it, it seems like the older people get the less time they have for each other."

"Around Europe, into Africa and then a bit to South America. Brazil mostly. It was wonderful and while I would love to see more I must admit I was ready to come back to London for a spell. I missed family and a good cup of tea, it never tastes the same overseas though I don't know why. Have you done any traveling?"

OOC: ZOMG! Why are Pansy and Luna getting along?! Lol. For some reason, Pansy won't let me be snarky. It's nice, though :)

OOC: I KNOW! It just seems so wrong and yet Luna is not surprised at all. I can't stop shaking my head though haha.
