The Orchids Society is a society compromised of only the elite pureblood women of the wizarding world (Although a halfblood who marries into a wealthy family, or who is influential in their own right, may on occasion be granted membership). It is a society that has its hands in almost every major institution in the wizarding world, and has quite a lot of influence. Entrance into the society is considered a great achievement and can open many doors for a young woman.
The younger generation of pureblood girls, the daughters of the current Orchids are now entering the age in which they may or may not be offered access to the Orchids.
The society is very old fashioned in terms of morals and politics, and in between their galas and charity events, they are swift to bring down holy hell onto any person or society they find to be inappropriate.
Many young purebloods have taken the outflux into smaller towns as a way of getting away from the stifling watchful eyes of their families.
The Renegades
Led by Rodolphus Lestrange, the Renegades are a group of escaped deatheaters that have been in hiding in the rural parts of England ever since the end of the war. Their presence is currently denied by the Ministry.
After laying low for a few years, they have begun to try and reform a new generation of deatheaters. So far their actions have stretched only as far as a few muggings and attacks on travelling muggles and muggleborn wizards. Recently, however, they have begun approaching members within the wizarding society to pledge into the group, and a few have done so. The question remains as to who has, and who won't. It would take only a few key persons to make a big difference.
Political Parties
-> National Peace Party
Led by Arcturus Burke, the NPP came to power following the Hogwarts seige and the downfall of Lord Voldemort. Their focus on rebuilding, organization and preventative methods against another war won them favor with many downtrodden wizarding folk. To their credit, the NPP has certainly brought British wizarding society back onto the upswing. Unfortunately, they have also imposed many restrictions on everyday life:
Act 15: No person with less than 1/3 pureblood may be found outside the home or an government sanctioned muggleborn dwelling after 10pm and before 5am. This is to ensure the safety of said persons against the possibility of an attack performed by a person of secret deatheater affiliation.
The forementioned Act 15 had led to severe incoveniences for those involved. Furthermore, it has also led to the creation of the so called "Muggleborn village" a series of pubs and clubs (government authorized) north of croydon that were created to allow muggleborns to socialize into the night. Due to lack of funding however, the village is essentially a ghetto, and some muggleborns find their peers to be slowly pushed into a slum like lifestyle due to visiting the pubs for some nightlife and getting wrapped up into that seedy world.
Not to mention the new Act 23, which has placed restrictions on the amount of contact individuals may have with their muggle family members.
Although the NPP is clearly biased, purebloods have not gotten away easily either. Paranoia over the escaped deatheaters has led to harrassing raids and questioning at home and at the office ... Especially so if you're a member of a family that isn't influential enough to be considered a beneficial ally to the ministry.
Also, within the party itself exists a lot of corrupt players, all with agendas of their own, leading to important issues being ignored, and individual wants furthured.
