I've always been a reader, and while the libraries at Bridgerton House and Aubrey Hall were very well stocked with a vast array of subjects, it was still lacking. I know this now especially well considering I'm 200 years later and there have been such great developments in all subjects, and I imagine quite a few of those books that I read would be laughably outdated if they were to be read now.

So, I ask this of all of you, if you're willing and so inclined - what book, whether fantastical or scientific, whether a novel or historical, would you recommend as a - how did I hear it described? oh yes - a "must-read."

So. There's a lot of new people that have arrived in the last month or so and I thought it'd be good if we all got to know one another a little better?

Anyway! I'll provide games, snacks, alcohol.

I'm thinking next Saturday, the 27th, starting at 8pm over at Dorian's Gray Room [LOCATION in the city]. You don't need to bring anything unless you want to.

To anyone I didn't see last night: 恭喜发财 / 春节快乐 / Happy New Year! Good luck and good fortune to all, and my your year be filled with academic success, promotions at every step, and prosperity of all kinds.

[Filtered to Party Invitees and Attendees]
Thanks for coming to share the New Year with me - it was a blast. Best one I've had in a long time, to be honest.

Also, while everyone did great, Daphne, Eloise, and Erik make the luckiest dumplings. Your dough pleats would have my grandmother trying to adopt you.

Poe, I hope the food was still good when the Murderdrone made its delivery, and that recovery's going well. We missed you.

And finally - if anyone wants continued Chinese cooking lessons, let me know. I like sharing the knowledge, and I'm trying to be less of an asshole than I was in my previous life.

If you happen to be torn on whether or not you should hurt these turkeys if you have the opportunity to do so before they get to you, the answer is a tentative 'yes'. And I'm also glad I remembered bobcats are one of the predators animals of turkeys in the wild, but I still feel bad about [...] doing what I did.

RIP to my newest favorite coat. I could use some help buying a new one; something with a neon green accent?

The next time I face a villain, turkey form it is. They won't know what hit them.

And ow?

You are officially invited to a Chinese New Year celebration at my and Gretchen's apartment.

Traditionally, Chinese New Year is a two-week affair complete with honoring the gods and the ancestors, meant to ensure prosperity and good luck in the coming year. My father's family is from Sichuan (western/southern/southwestern China), but I grew up in California, so I've acquired traditions from all over the place. The most important tradition in pretty much every Lunar New Year celebration, though, is the Reunion Dinner held on New Year's Eve. You invite the whole family, you make enough food to feed a small country, you give lucky red envelopes with money inside (even if it's a tiny amount of money, it's just a thing you do) to the younger people, and then you set off fireworks at midnight to welcome the new year. I went to a reunion dinner in every year of my human life, and since I just got my cooking gear back, I want to have one here.

If you're on this invitation, you're part of my extended Vallo family, either by virtue of living through Dark Vallo with me or being attached to someone who did, or by being a new favorite person from Nice Vallo. If I were my grandmother making this invitation, I would be deeply offended if you refused and would tell every other old lady in China about the terrible heartbreak of ungrateful children with no sense of filial piety. As I am not my grandmother and I can't contact every old lady in China from here, you're free to say no without fear of reprisal.

If you want to come, here's how it goes:
  • Show up at the apartment on the morning of Feb 12 if you want to help make food. I'm willing to teach things like dumpling folding and spring roll wrapping if you don't already know how. This is an equal-opportunity invitation, we don't do "cooking prep is only for ladies" here. You do have to follow my kitchen orders, though. I am lord in my kitchen.
  • If you just want to eat, show up at the apartment around 4 p.m. on Feb 12. This is going to be a lot of food, so we pace ourselves.
  • Wear red if you've got it, for maximum luck.
  • I'll explain the food traditions as we go. I can also teach you to eat with chopsticks if you don't know how, but I'll have forks in reserve just in case.

Give me a yes or no on the invite ASAP so I can start planning how much food to make and how many chairs to borrow. Also tell me if you're allergic to fish or anything like that so I can make sure there's something you can eat.

I know you've got family here but it's weird. If you want to bring your people to this, we'll be happy to have them. If you guys already have your own celebration planned, enjoy it. If you want to come and leave your brother et al. to do their own thing, that's also fine. I just didn't want to put them on the invitation without talking to you first.

I opened a cabinet today, and there's my wok, my steamer, and my rice cooker. Not just any wok, my wok, carbon steel with 15 years of seasoning on it. I'm guessing that's something that just happens here sometimes?

Want to celebrate Lunar New Year Sichuan-style? We put up red lanterns, eat a shitton of food with whoever we decide doesn't suck (since we don't have families here and lbr, ours are kind of lousy anyway), and set off fireworks. I'll cook, you find a source for baijiu. It's on February 12 this year.

Hey, I was thinking about what you said earlier, about not ever having a Valentine's date. How would you feel about being lowkey set up for one? I figure between me, Henry, Thom, and Erik, we know some quality date options.

So it turns out the boss has never had a Valentine's date. I got her permission to set her up with people. Who do we know who's potentially worthy, won't be bothered by the fact that she hasn't dated a lot before, and is in approximately the right age range?

On March 6th I will officially be opening The Art of Expression, a creative arts studio for artists of all kinds to work, create, and collaborate if they so choose. The centre has:

- An Art Studio
- Dance Studio
- Performance Space
- Recording Studio
- Practice Rooms

We will offer art lessons, voice lessons, piano lessons, dance classes, and open studio time for artists of all skill levels to benefit from the space.

This is a project I've been working on for months, and it would not have been possible without Gabrielle, who was sent back recently. Gabrielle is a professional dancer, so in order to keep her studio ready for her when she comes back, I'm working on finalizing contacts with local dance instructors to use the space.

March 6 will be the grand opening event, so if you have time, I hope you'll come down and check out the new studio space!

Hey, a couple of my compatriots from Satan's Snowglobe originally came from early 19th century London, so I wanted to make sure a few things are true here before we take them on a Women's Rights Tour of the Future. Please confirm that the following are accurate here in Vallo:

1. Women can wear whatever they please
2. Women can have bank accounts
3. Women can wear trousers
4. Women can own land
5. Women can marry or not marry as they see fit, regardless of how their male relatives feel about it, and regardless of the gender of the person they may or may not choose to marry
6. There is nothing strange about a woman having a profession
7. Women enjoy the same sexual freedoms as any other gender, including the ability to prevent pregnancy
8. Genders other than "man" and "woman" are recognized, including but probably not limited to nonbinary, agender, genderfluid

FITLERED TO THE OG SNOWGLOBBERS:
Hopefully everyone is settling in alright since Saturday.

Gansey and I will be hosting an information session/meet and greet on Friday afternoon. Usually when people come in the way we're used to we get a chance to sit down and go over a bunch of stuff. Since this was sort of outside the norm we figured this might be the easiest way! If you feel like you've got a handle on everything that's great, you're definitely not required to show up, but we hope to see you there. We will also have some staff on hand to help with getting any credentials and id's sorted that you might need too. As well as some snacks and coffee.

FITLERED TO ARTHUR:
Got any big plans for your birthday?

FILTERED TO TYLER:
Hey. Just checking in. If you're up for company, Lucas has been asking for you.

I'm not sure what happened while I was stuck in that horrible version of this place, but the pub & inn that I own back home arrived at some point.

So I'm going to give myself a couple more days to get settled in, but starting on Friday, if you're looking for a new place to patronize, please consider coming by The Leaky Cauldron! It's located near [cross streets] just off of a grove on the edge of the forest; the kitchen and bar will be open from 11-2 and 4-9 until I can find more help.

[OG Snowglobe Residents]

With all of that said, if any of you would like to come by tomorrow evening for a drink before I officially open for business here, I'd love to have you.

Hey, Real Vallo. I hope this is real, anyway. Thanks for the welcome. It's a lot nicer than the last one we got.

Full disclosure: I'm not exactly human. I'm part human, part typhon. Mostly that doesn't matter; I look human 90% of the time. If you pop in on where you expect me to be and see what your brain will probably interpret as an unnatural tentacle-spider-thing about the size of a big dog, though, that's normal, please don't hit me with a pipe wrench. Also, if I get startled I tend to quickly mimic a nearby object to hide. Mugs are a favorite. And for any of you who go around hearing thoughts, mine will probably just sound like white noise on the radio to you? It's not that I don't have thoughts, they just don't work like human thoughts unless I'm deliberately communicating with humans.

Anyway, I hear I need a job, so where's the science happen around here? Ph.D. in neuroscience, PE licenses in computer and mechanical, most of my work's been in R&D, and all my references are dead.

Are we supposed to post proper introductions on here? I feel like I ought to after yesterday. Hello, I'm Hannah Abbott. Sirius seems to be have been the only person from my world that was already here, but there's a few more of us now!

I think it may take us a little bit to adjust, but once I've settled, I'd really like to see what this place actually has to offer.

[George and Penelope]

Apparently this city can give gifts from home and it looks like The Leaky Cauldron decided to be one of those. Sirius found it and is going to take me to it.

Holy shit that's a large influx of signals coming in. Search and rescue folks, if you haven't seen this already, start a major sweep on all sides.

HQ, let's get Morningside ready for a whole bunch of newbies. If you don't have a job in that yet and you're smart enough to follow orders and don't faint at the sight of blood, come join me in the infirmary. This many new folks might mean a bunch of injured.
