For the first time that he could remember, Michael was actually content. It was probably odd, considering that he’d been kidnapped to some alternate dimension, but life here was far calmer than it had ever been in Roswell. He had Maria and Alex, he had a job, he had some friends, and he didn’t have anyone gunning for aliens here. Sure, he missed Isobel. And Max, he would admit grudgingly. Overall, though, he had no complaints.
None of them had been here long enough to have accumulated a lot of belongings and he’d gone out shopping for some kitchen essentials. He was unpacking them, arranging the cabinets in what seemed to him to be a logical way, when Alex came in and he stopped what he was doing long enough to walk over and greet him with a kiss.
“I did some shopping,” he said. “Picked up a few things we needed.”
***
It was a lot to get used to, and Alex still spent a lot of his time alternating between waiting for the hammer to fall, and gawking like a kid at this place, where he was surrounded by superheroes and fictional characters on a regular basis.
Somehow falling into a permanent (?) threesome arrangement with the love of his life and his best friend still seemed like the least believable part of all this. Alex wasn't used to things working out, not in his life in general and definitely not with him and Michael. There was still a component of walking around on eggshells, hoping it didn't just crack out under them.
So when he walked in to see Michael arranging kitchenware, it was ... so blindingly normal that Alex felt like he'd wandered into someone else's life. He laughed, startled by the sight and the feeling, and walked over, leaning into a kiss hello and then bracing against the counter, looking over what Michael had gotten. "You went shopping," he said, deadpan enough that it might have been teasing, but there was just a hint of something delighted beneath that. "What'd you get?"
***
Since finding himself naked in the desert as a child with no memories of how he got there, Michael’s life was never normal by any definition. Maybe his childhood had been, years ago, before whatever happened that led his people to escape to Earth, but there was no way of knowing that.
This, though, was the closest to normal he’d ever gotten and he was fully embracing it. If it all fell apart, well, he’d deal with that then. For now, he was going to enjoy having both of the people he loved with him.
“Shut up,” he said though there was no heat behind the words. He could guess what Alex was thinking. “I got a set of pots and pans. Some cooking utensils. And a few other odds and ends that I thought would be useful.”
***
Alec was embracing it too. But that didn't mean he couldn't help but brace just in case. Some things were instinct, and instincts were a lot harder to overcome than habit, even.
But he was grinning at Michael, ignoring being told to shut up. "Is there an apron?" he asked, just to be an ass. "Does that mean you're gonna cook for us, Guerin?" He'd heard that eggs could happen, but hadn't seen it yet. He wasn't sure if there was a wider variety at work.
He wrapped an arm around Michael's waist in the guise of leaning up against him to peer at what he'd bought, but really just to take the excuse for closeness.
***
Michael wasn’t going to argue against the closeness, though he did take advantage of it to swat Alex’s ass lightly. “Omelets are my specialty,” he said. “But I can do some other basic stuff.” Typical bachelor fare, like pasta and burgers. Nothing close to gourmet and he’d consider it more assembling than cooking.
“What have you been up to today?” he asked.
***
Alex hummed an answer, pinching Michael's ass in return but not moving away at all. "That doesn't tell me if you're going to be cooking for us," he pointed out. He wasn't actually that handy in a kitchen either. He could make a few things well, and that was pretty much it. And when he was cooking for just himself, Alex hadn't bothered that often.
He shrugged without letting go of Michael. "Spent some time in the lab with Ray, looking over his systems, and then poked around in town a little. Still trying to get used to things here. Pretty sure I saw someone fly by overhead while I was walking."
***
“I figured we’d all take turns cooking,” Michael said with a shrug. At least when they wanted to. There were also plenty of places they could go out to eat though that might be a little expensive. “At least we’ll have what we need when we want to.” It was part of that whole normal life thing he figured.
Michael made a face when he mentioned Ray, but didn’t comment on it. Alex had committed to him and Maria so he was going to trust that and not get jealous. Or at least try not to let his jealousy show.
“I did see some chatter on the network about people looking for pterodactyls,” he said. Oddly, it wasn’t the strangest sentence he’d ever uttered.
***
"Better than what I'm used to," Alex admitted with a laugh. "Even when I came home, there were a lot of MRE's." Maybe he'd ride this wave of whatever domestic thing they had happening and start mainlining cooking youtube, figure out how to make more than five things.
He saw the face and lifted his eyebrows, leaning back so he was flat-backed against the counter and tugging at Michael in a suggestion to follow him and lean against him, not commenting on it otherwise.
"Did any of them mention Torchwood?" Alex asked wryly. His inner nerd showed through at odd moments. "Ever think you'd wind up somewhere you're the least weird thing around?" he asked.
***
Michael let himself be tugged against Alex, resting his hands on the counter behind his boyfriend. “I don’t think so,” he said. “What’s Torchwood?” He might be a nerd, but it wasn’t the pop culture type of nerdiness so he usually didn’t get Alex’s references.
“Are you calling me weird?” he teased.
***
Alex sighed mournfully, forehead tipping into Michael's. "It's a show. Which is spun off from another show, which I don't want to explain to you because one, it involves aliens, and two, the main character from it is here, which makes it completely bizarre for me to talk about basically anything I've watched, played, or read."
"You can move things with your mind, spent senior year making out with me, got offered an apartment in magic land and still lived in your airstream with no air. Guerin, you've always been weird. I guess that's just my type," Alex told him, laughing and stealing another quick kiss.
***
Michael chuckled and moved one of his hands to Alex’s hip, hooking his thumb through one of his belt loops. “Doesn’t it just figure that we end up in some bizarre ass universe and it’s like nerd heaven for you,” he teased. “And yet here you are with me and not off chasing a superhero or Jedi.” He was familiar enough with Star Wars that he had been concerned that Alex had a speed date with Luke Freaking Skywalker.
“You know, Isobel learned how to do all sorts of shit with her powers,” he added. “I wonder if I could do those things too. Not just the telekinesis stuff.”
***
"Not quite heaven. No Shepards, and no flying cars," Alex argued, grinning. "But even you have to admit, living superhero movies and cartoons is pretty cool." He lifted his eyebrows and shrugged. "Well. Superman's not here, and probably straight if you do, so you're my best option. Besides, you kind of are a Jedi. One with the Force." Alex cocked his head. "And you have an advantage on all of them, anyway."
"Yeah? If she can, you probably could. If you wanted to," Alex said, a little cautiously. Talking about his powers and where he came from wasn't usually the most neutral of topics for the two of them. "There might be people here to help too, like we hope there will be for Maria."
***
“I’m glad to hear that I don’t currently have competition,” Michael joked. “I’ll be on alert if Superman ever shows up.” He would be, but he’d try not to be too neurotic about it. Try being the key word. “And, yeah, I guess this place isn’t so bad.” He was pretty sure that he’d never have an opportunity to be with both Alex and Maria back in Roswell.
He nodded thoughtfully at Alex’s suggestion. “Yeah, hey, maybe the Jedi could actually help me,” he said. It couldn’t hurt to ask, at least. “Just don’t ask me to wear one of those robes.” He paused. “Unless you’re into way kinkier shit than I’m aware of.”
***
"You never had competition. That's where the advantage comes in. Hard to compete with you, Guerin," Alex said dryly. "But I'm not going to turn it down if I get an offer for a lift from one of the flying superpowered people."
Alex paused. "Let's not go ruling anything out," he said, and then smothered a laugh on Michael's shoulder. "I'm not asking you to put on Jedi robes, if only because I'd be afraid you'd ask Maria for the gold bikini and then she'd kill you, and I like having you around."
***
No doubt Maria would kill both of them if the suggestion of her wearing a gold bikini was voiced though it was a very nice mental image. “Halloween?” Michael said with a smirk. If it was even celebrated here, it might be the only time they could get away with something like that.
He stole another kiss, enjoying the easy closeness. They hadn’t had too many moments like this over the years and he wanted to savor it. “Not sure how I feel about you flying though. What if they dropped you?” The idea of Alex getting hurt was something he couldn’t tolerate.
***
"You're a brave guy if you want to bring it up," Alex said with a laugh. She'd look amazing, but he didn't think Maria would be into it. "Maybe she'll counter with you in the bikini, and her in the robes?"
Alex kissed back, easy and close. This was still brand new. Their moments as kids had all been stolen and dangerous because of it, and since Alex came home, everything they had was fraught with tensions new and old. Unpacking utensils in a place they both lived in, sharing space and touch and smiles. Alex might not be used to it, and he might not trust it to stay yet, but that didn't mean he wasn't soaking it up. "You could catch me?"
***
Michael laughed. “Brave? Or stupid? Probably the latter,” he admitted. He did file it away in the back of his mind though. Maybe he and Maria could surprise Alex sometime. That might be fun. “I guess I could,” he said. “With my telekinesis. So if anyone offers to take you flying, you’ll let me know so I can be there just in case?””
His mind wasn’t really on kitchen items anymore though and he moved his hands to Alex’s hips. “Do you have anywhere you need to be soon?” he asked, his intentions obvious in his tone.
***
"Can't it be both?" Alex asked with a laugh. "Maybe you can just figure out how to fly and cut out the middle man. Take me up yourself," he teased. "Or I can borrow someone's plane, take you up instead." Even if that wasn't the same level of cool as flying superhero-style.
Alex slid a hand into Michael's back pocket, smiling. "I was thinking of queuing up some cooking vids on youtube, trying to find ways to use all your new homegoods ... but I could put that off. Why? Have something in mind?" he asked, tone innocent but smile knowing and a touch delighted, all his focus on Michael. For all their habit of bullshitting and arguing, Alex had never really lost that teenage part of him that just couldn't help but have his heart race and his whole self be caught up by a flirting Michael Guerin.
***
“Going with both is kind of my MO,” Michael joked. There were a lot of jokes about bisexuals not being able to make decisions and, well, he couldn’t really argue that they weren’t rooted in some kind of truth. At least in his case.
He leaned and kissed Alex. “Got a few ideas,” he said, leaning his forehead against the other man’s.
***
"Kind of getting that impression," Alex said dryly. What with Michael dating both of them. He slid fingers up into Michael's curls, still enamored of them, years after he'd first gotten hands into them. "Good thing no one around here really needs you to make a call one way or the other."
He kissed back, pressing up into it and pulling Michael closer at the same time. "I could be talked into changing my mind."
***
“Wasn’t really thinking about talking,” Michael murmured, pressing himself against Alex and sliding his hands around to grab his ass. They probably shouldn’t be doing this in the kitchen, he suspected that Maria would not approve of that, though at the moment, the bedrooms seemed very far away.
It was kind of fun to make out like teenagers, even though Michael was glad they were all grown up now and didn’t have to deal with the sort of issues they had back then.
***
Alex laughed. "Not at all? So this is a silent thing? Mouths only good for one thing?" Alex teased, eyebrows quirking, even if his breath hitched when Michael grabbed his ass. For all their bickering and tension since Alex came back, Alex had never been able to get over being easy for Michael's touch. He didn't even have any reason to fight it now, they had time, their own space, and the freedom to find out what the hell they were when they were left to figure it out without Alex's dad or the drama of Roswell breathing down on them.
And apparently what they were was basically still 17 year olds who couldn't keep their hands off each other.
***
There was nothing wrong with acting like horny teenagers in the privacy of their own home as far as Michael was concerned. He did miss the familiarity of his Airstream, but moments like this more than made living in this apartment worth it.
“I can think of a few things they’re good for,” he said, ducking his head to press kisses along Alex’s jaw and neck. “But if you want dirty talk, I can probably swing that too.”
***
Alex tipped his head for the kisses, fingers drawing absent patterns onto Michael's back as he petted him, fingertips digging in now and then as he tried to pull him closer, even if that wasn't actually that possible.
"Just a few? You should probably work on getting creative, Guerin. You've got two of us to keep up with now." Alex's other hand tugged at Michael's curls again, light enough that it was mostly just another form of petting. "What if I want some big dramatic romantic speeches AND dirty talk? Think you can pull that off?" he teased. "We should probably go to bed and find out."
***
Michael laughed and tugged Alex away from the counter so he could drag him towards one of the bedrooms. They had options there too, but he figured they’d land in whichever room was closest.
“You’re asking a lot,” he joked as they moved through the apartment. “Good thing I love you.” It meant he was willing to do pretty much anything that would make Alex happy, even including romantic speeches.
***
Alex let Michael tug him, leaning on Michael until he shifted his balance back onto his bad leg and then grinning. "Yeah. I'm high maintenance," he said.
And then softened abruptly. Their declarations of love had tended to come in the middle of arguments or emotional breakdown before. Just having Michael say it while they were flirting and on the way to bed in their shared apartment ... it was new and Alex's heart did an embarrassing sort of double throb. He stopped Michael and leaned in to kiss him again suddenly. "I love you too," he said against Michael's mouth afterward, just to revel in being able to say it.
He snagged Michael's hand, smiling to drag him on to the nearest bedroom.
