Who: Parker & Chloe Decker
What: Meeting
Where: Lux
When: Before the dinosaurs
Warnings: Nope!
Status: complete
Even though Parker missed her team, she was having fun in this weird place. There were lots of interesting people around and lots of cool things to steal. Not that she was doing much stealing, she knew that she had to be careful since the population here was limited and she couldn’t leave if the pressure came down.
Tonight, she dropped by Lux so she could finally get Lucifer to introduce his girlfriend. Who was apparently a cop. Normally, she avoided those at all costs, but she liked Lucifer and was having fun with the challenges he was giving her, so she figured she should at least make an effort.
She sat at the bar and ordered a martini, channeling Sophie’s cool sophistication, and glanced around at the crowd.
***
Living with Lucifer at Lux was a little strange, but then again, so was the entire city. He had mentioned that he was working with someone by the name of Parker, but he hadn’t provided too many details.
Given that Lucifer was out and about, Chloe decided to spend some time down in the club and wait for him, rather than heading out into the city. She slid up to the bar and ordered herself one of the special fruity drinks that was on the menu. It was always a little awkward for her, spending time in the club, but it was something to pass the time. “Hey, Justin, you haven’t seen Lucifer around, have you?” She questioned the bartender as he handed her the drink.
“Nah, I think he left about an hour ago and said he’d be back soon.”
***
Parker glanced over at the woman who was asking for Lucifer. She was pretty and something about the tone of her voice reminded her of the cops she’d encountered through the years. “Hey,” she said. “Are you Chloe?”
Since it was Parker, she was blunt in asking, not bothering to try making small talk or anything.
***
She turned her head to look at the young woman next to her, looking at her curiously. “Yes, that would be me. How do you know who I am?” She didn’t look like someone she had met before in the city or anywhere, nor had she ever noticed her in the club before. Then again, she didn’t usually check out who was in the club.
***
“I’m supposed to meet you,” she said. “I’m Parker. Lucifer said that he’d introduce us.” But apparently he wasn’t here at the moment, so she figured she could do it herself. “He said you’re a cop.”
That was the most important thing to Parker, given her history as a thief, even though she’d become a good guy in the past few years, because she didn’t tend to trust cops. Then again, this one was in a relationship with the devil, so maybe she wasn’t so bad.
***
“You’re supposed to meet me here, and Lucifer said he would introduce us?” Chloe shifted against the bar and looked her over with a raised brow. Was he trying to set up a threesome or something? He hadn’t mentioned anything about Parker, or arranging a meeting.
“Detective, actually, and it’s nice to meet you, Parker.” she smiled brightly and reached for her drink to take a sip. “Why did Lucifer want us to meet?”
***
Reading people might not be one of her top skills, but Parker recognized a fake smile when she saw one. “I wanted to meet you,” she said. “He’s my friend.” Bonnano was a detective and he turned a blind eye to what the team did most of the time. Lucifer’s warning that Chloe would likely not appreciate Parker’s thievery was in the back of her mind though, so she didn’t elaborate on the nature of that friendship.
She didn’t realize how unnerving her steady gaze and clipped words could be to people who didn’t know her.
***
Chloe was barely phased by Parker’s demeanor, having dealt with all sorts of personalities, and she was rarely intimidated. “Why did you want to meet me?” She had little knowledge of what he had been up to before she arrived, and given that they were talking about Lucifer, this friend of his could have been a variety of things.
“Do you work for Lucifer, have you slept with him, do you owe him some sort of favor?”
***
Parker made a face at the questions. “I just did,” she said. “He said you’re his girlfriend.” And she was always curious about people’s relationships. They weren’t something she felt like she understood well and wanted to know more about. Especially now because she really did like Hardison, even though he wasn’t here.
“And no, I tried to steal something from him and we became friends. I don’t owe him anything and I definitely never slept with him.” Nor did she have any desire to. She also wouldn’t say that she worked for him since he mostly just suggested things she should try to steal and then she went and did it. It wasn’t like he paid her for that, it was just for fun.
***
Her statement threw her off for a moment, and she stood there with a slightly stunned expression. Lucifer had introduced her to someone as his girlfriend? Of course, that’s what she was, but she never expected to hear that. Chloe had been about to say something in response to that when the other woman mentioned attempted robbery.
“You tried to steal something from him, and you became friends when he caught you?” She repeated, making sure she had heard that right.
***
Oops. She hadn’t meant to say anything about stealing. The questions about sleeping with Lucifer distracted her though and she forgot.
Parker plastered on her own fake smile. “It was a misunderstanding,” she said, trying to adopt a very Sophie-like tone. “We cleared it up and discovered that we enjoyed each other’s company.” Hopefully that would divert Chloe’s attention from asking more questions about stealing things.
***
“How could that have been a misunderstanding? Did you accidentally place something in your bag?” Why would Lucifer have wanted to introduce her to a thief? Chloe shifted her stance, easily falling into detective mode with Parker. He likely didn’t have much of anything of value in the club, but he had plenty of desirable items in the penthouse.
“You accidentally went up the elevator to where he lives, and it was all just a misunderstanding?”
***
“Oh, no, it was from here in the club,” Parker said. “He didn’t invite me upstairs until after.”
She was starting to think that she shouldn’t have said anything and just waited for Lucifer to introduce them so she didn’t have to answer so many questions. Because of course a detective was going to ask a lot of questions.
***
Chloe stood there and laughed in amusement, definitely planning to ask Lucifer about this later on. “He caught you stealing something and then he invited you up to his penthouse? Yet, you didn’t sleep together?” The more that Parker spoke, the more questions Chloe had. “I wasn’t aware that Lucifer invited random females to his place other than for sex.”
***
Parker shrugged. “We had a drink and talked. I told him I wasn’t going to sleep with him.” Sex wasn’t a priority for her and she was blunt enough that she would be up front about that with anyone who might be interested. He’d denied having an interest, but she had no way of knowing if that was true.
***
None of this made any sense to her at all and she was genuinely surprised that Parker hadn’t wanted to sleep with him, given his ability to easily seduce women with just one look. “Right, okay,” Chloe nodded, suddenly aware that most of the information she was being provided was only in response to her questions.
“Have you been here long?” Chloe shifted gears in her line of questioning, making it a little more personal.
***
If she wanted more information, she was definitely going to have to work for it. Parker was not the sharing type.
“Couple of months,” she said. “It’s not bad. I got to be a mermaid. That was pretty cool.”
She missed her team and missed the freedom to be able to go wherever she wanted, but in general, this place was interesting enough that she wasn’t bored. Which was a good thing since no one wanted to see what a bored Parker got up to.
***
“You got to be a mermaid? Really?” Lucifer was right, this place really was insane. It seemed that all sorts of strange things happened and that unicorns really did exist in this place. There was a part of her that wished Trixie could see it all, but at the same time she was grateful that her daughter was safe and sound.
“I’ve been here a little over a month, I think? It’s all just sort of blurred into one blob of time without working a normal schedule. Do you have a job here, or do you just go around stealing things?”
***
Eyes wide, Parker shook her head. “No, no job yet.” She definitely didn’t plan to get one either, but she wasn’t about to admit to a cop that she stole things. Even if Chloe didn’t have a badge here yet, she might get one or feel compelled to turn Parker in. “I had some money show up from home.” That was true even though it had been more recent.
“Are you going to be a cop here?” she asked.
***
“Money just showed up?” it was hard to believe a word she was saying, especially given the fact she was indeed a thief. Something she had actually admitted to, which was strange. “A cop? No, I don’t think they have a police department here, unfortunately. I signed up for the Department of Outlander Affairs, which is absolutely nothing like being a detective, but it’s still something to do.” She replied with a shrug, having been contemplating looking into something else.
“This place is still incredibly strange to me, I really don’t understand much of anything about it.”
***
“Well, my painting showed up and it had money in the back of it,” Parker admitted. She knew that would probably raise Chloe’s suspicions further, but she was who she was and couldn’t really hide it.
She finished her drink and shrugged. “It’s weird to me too,” she said. “I think it’s weird to all of us.”
***
“Well, I wouldn’t say all of us. Lucifer doesn’t seem to be too phased by any of it. Then again, it takes a lot to throw him off kilter.” Chloe replied with a shrug, deciding not to comment about the mysterious painting with money behind it. “It was nice to meet you, Parker, but I should let you go. I don’t want to take up too much of your time.”
***
Parker nodded. “You too. Tell Lucifer I’ll see him soon,” she said, sliding off the barstool and throwing down a $20 as a tip for the bartender. The brunette seemed kind of boring to her and she couldn’t imagine why Lucifer liked her, but she wasn’t going to judge.
