Greetings. My name is Thurvishar D'Lorus. After performing a perfunctory sweep of names on your compiled list I am confident in saying that there is no one here from my world, but if I'm incorrect, I beg your forgiveness. I'm loathe to sum up myself but in short: I am a wizard, and High Lord to the Noble House of Binders - paper, histories, archives, mapmaking, records, you get the idea. In my spare time, I work as the advisor to Empress Tyentso (long may she reign) and get dragged into near-death political deathtraps by my friends whose enthusiasm for life often outpaces their capacity for common sense. This isn't my first alternate dimension, nor will it likely be my last, but I do have three questions here that I would greatly appreciate a response:

  • I wonder if there has been any study of how time moves in comparison to that of the homeworlds? This notion concerns me greatly, as we are on a-- we'll call it abbreviated -- schedule back home before, in short, total devastation and unending apocalypse strikes, and I would really very much like to avoid all of that, and:

  • Has anyone else had their magical abilities dampened? I am missing a power that was second nature back home, and it seems to be much weakened here, and finally:

  • I could use the spiciest curry on saag that Vallo could provide me with. Please, I implore you: blow my head off.
Thank you for any information you can provide.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. I'd been on the road, you see, well before coming here, and will find immeasurable comfort in angry dishes that want me sobbing. Slice of something like home, you know. Who do I have to thank for the suggestion?

I get it. I've been living in Hicksville, USA for awhile so good Korean was a nonstarter. This place has surprisingly great food and a variety of it too. Anyway I'm Henry. Welcome!

Korean? Interesting. This dish is pure Western Quuros - just took a look at the menu - down to the sauces they use for dressing the noodles. I wonder at the overlap. Very good to meet you, Henry. Before this, we were either staying in mountain towns or with the Kirpis vane, who believe that the only way to enjoy food is to take literal porridge and enchant it to taste like other things. It's a terrible custom.

We can compare notes sometime. Over noodles so hot, there's a sign asking people not to puke in front of the shop! (Does the enchanting thing change the texture or is just like porridge that tastes like steak? 😬)

It changes it in texture and taste and visual appearance. Honestly, if you don't mind accepting the enchantments, my friends tell me that the food is the best thing they've ever had. But I have a particular distrust of spells that effect my perceptions and judgments, because, they tell me, I'm a stick in the mud.

Am I correct in discerning disdain for your past address in Hicksville/Henrietta?

My mother would say you are very wise. But it sounds compatible with a sustainable resource system so I have to side with the enchanting on this one.

Ah, it's not THAT bad. It's a small town and it isn't especially kind to people who aren't white? BUT having money did bridge a little of that gap. More importantly, Henrietta gave me a group of people I am very grateful for. The best people I know.

You're welcome to all of my enchanted porridge.

It's strange how circumstances that might be unbearable otherwise are mitigated so dramatically by having a trusted group of friends. I know exactly what you mean. Except -- you'll have to forgive me; not-- white? In terms of-- magical aptitude, or...?

Thank you! I'm guessing that's not YOUR list of abilities.

They changed my life, 100%. Ah, but no. White as in race. Skin color. Is racism not a thing where you come from? Maybe xenophobia or some version of magical biogtry is? Magic is extremely rare at home.

No, I've got rather more than that.

Xenophobia, yes - there's a great deal of antagonism toward the vane and other nonhuman races due to the civil wars. And of course a public perception that everyone from Jorat's... we'll say, "provincial". The only people I'd call truly white are those from Doltari - and Senera's never mentioned being judged for that or having a position of power of anything due to it. Although Quur's no paradise; there's a never-ending fountain of misogyny and homophobia, though thankfully both appear to be on the way out as more progressive areas of the empire mingle with the central towns.

At any rate - the ignorant are unfortunately everywhere, and sometimes the only antidote is good friends.

I won't be nosy. I'll just say there is a lot of magic here and even a club and several schools, so you're in good company.

There's always something. I'm not enough of an idealist to think anyone's world is entirely without baseless judgment. Even Vallo has people butting heads sometimes. Supernatural, human, magic, not magic, Outlander, Vallorian. (Idk if that's the right word just go with it.)

Very good; going with it. And if everyone enjoyed consistent peace, we'd probably be dead. So-- bright side acquired.

You could show him your model? No one is impervious to the charm of a Gansey model!

Henry, I think only you think that way. Everyone else is fairly impervious to a Gansey model.

I promise you that isn't true. I could site all the many many months Ronan Lynch didn't dare damage it as proof.
