WHO: Bucky Barnes & Nyx Ulric
WHERE: Atlantis
WHEN: July 13th, 2020 (Backdated)
WHAT: Nyx and Bucky explore Atlantis a bit.
WARNINGS: N/A
STATUS: Complete
Magic could be so fucking weird sometimes, thought Bucky as he swam through the streets of Atlantis with Nyx. Yes, Atlantis. It had been bit of a shock when the Atlanteans had turned them into sea creatures to enter Atlantis properly, but Bucky was finally starting to get used to having a shark's tail and talking underwater. Magic. It was hell of a thing. When the Atlanteans hadn't tried to eat them or attack them upon their arrival, the group Bucky had come with had decided that things were on the up and up and split up to explore. He wasn't stupid, he still kept an eye out for anything suspicious, but he wasn't going to waste time worrying about what may or may not happen when he could see a magical new city like Atlantis. And maybe later he could find out what it was like to make out with Nyx underwater. Speaking of, he looked over at the other man, who was currently sporting a merman look, and asked, "Is it cannibalism if we try the local seafood here?" It was a joke, but Bucky slowed in front of what looked like a restaurant and nodded at it. "What do you say, want to try the local cuisine?" Nyx had seen and done a lot of weird shit since he'd been pulled into this whole living in other dimensions thing. But somehow getting turned into a full out mermaid - merman? - seemed to take the cake on the weirdness scale right about then. It wasn't bad necessarily. Nyx had always been at home in the water, growing up on the banks of rivers and the ocean that surrounded the islands. This was a little different though, and took a bit to get used to before being able to move around freely. It was nice though, in its own weird little way. Interesting at the very least. Although, like Bucky, he wasn't prepared to completely let his guard down. He shrugged at the question, a wry grin on his lips. "Maybe it's only cannibalism if they also talk?" Though for all any of them really knew, that could be a thing. Maybe it was best to just - not think too hard on it. "I'm down though." Nyx looked Bucky over. "It's fucking weird you're still hot," he commented with a laugh. Laughing, Bucky grinned. “You got a fish fetish I don’t know about?” But if Nyx did, so did Bucky because Nyx didn’t look bad at all. “But I understand that feeling, you look good even as half of a fish. “You ever think you’d end up doing something like this, in all of your time alive? Cause I know you have magic in your world, but is this at all comparable to anything you’ve seen before?” Bucky liked to think that not everyone was so used to weirdness like this, but then again, Nyx came from a world not his own that had been, if the stories were true, pretty crazy like this as well. Entering the restaurant, a mermaid waited for them at what was presumably the hostess stand and sat them right away at a two top, after giving them menus. It was funny, how some things were the same no matter where they were. "Yesterday that would have been an easy no " he replied with another laugh. Not that Nyx would go anywhere as far as saying it was some weird fish fetish. But joking about the absurdity of the situation seemed like the best way to go. It was definitely strange, how different it was here but yet not all that different at the same time. Which he supposed made sense. They were people who lived under the sea, but they were still people. "Nah, back in Eos everyone was land dwelling only," he answered, smiled a bit. "Though my mom used to say me and Selena were part fish with the amount of time we'd spend in the water." The use of Eos over home had started to get easier and easier, though he wasn't sure when it really started. Just that as the months had hit the year mark and he carved out more and more of a life for himself it had started to shift that way. Insomnia and Galahd would always be home of course, but it wasn't his future - and hadn't been for a long time now. He glanced over the menu, more than a little curious as to what constituted cuisine here. Seafood heavy which, well, he supposed wasn't much different than eating beef up on land. "We have a god though - Leviathan - who is a sea creature. Like a giant serpent looking thing." Deciding on a lobster type meal, Bucky set his menu aside as he raised his eyebrows. Back home, he was used to monsters, magic, and god-like beings, but he had never once come across an actual god. “Are gods real back in your reality? We have Thor and Thanos, who are pretty god-like, but I never actually met a real god.” He knew a fair bit about Galahd and the universe it was found in from Nyx’s occasional story or when he needed to get something off his chest, but he didn’t know everything, not by a longshot. Nyx ordered similar, figuring it would be the freshest lobster meal he'd ever have. Or least he hoped given the location. He nodded a little at the question. "Yeah, they're real." And if he there was a bit of bitterness there, well, he was that. Bitter. "The Six. Titan, Ramuh, Leviathan, Shiva, Ifrit and Bahamut. Not everyone puts the same amount of faith in them, but we all knew they were real. Noctis grew up far more religious than me - rituals, praying, the whole nine yards. My upbringing in Galahd was hugely different - we knew they were there, we knew they were real, we just put more of our faith in the land and our people." Which was the oddest thing about his time on earth really, the concept of multiple religions and no one even knowing who was right for sure. “Huh. Earth must have been a little strange for you, with all the religions and how it’s faith based than...actual fact.” Because as far as Bucky knew, no one had concrete proof of any god’s existence and there was a good chance that the Norse gods were all based on Asgardians, who were, honestly, just aliens. Powerful, god-like aliens, but aliens nonetheless. “I don’t put much thought toward religion personally, but I did...do believe in a higher being. Just couldn’t tell you which one,” he said with a grin, shrugging a little. “They were talking about letting us stay overnight, was that something you were going to do? I have the goats to take care of, so I have to get back, but I don’t think I’d be able to sleep here comfortably with not knowing if something might happen while I’m asleep.” Who knew if someone would attack while his guard was down during his sleep. Even if this place was amazing and he wanted to stick around, he was more practical than that. "It could have been weirder?" he offered, a small shrug. "A lot of things were the same though, made it a pretty easy transition." Vallo however felt closer to Eos than Earth had. The mix of old and new, the magic that existed. Even just the size and scope of it compared to how big Earth had been. Nyx gave Bucky an empathetic smile at that. "Nothing wrong with that," he assured. He himself wasn't quite sure where he fell on the scale of "believing" anymore. Not that faith had ever been a big thing for him before, but finding out the gods were a bunch of assholes had left him bitter and a bit shaken if he was being honest. Lately it felt more apt to put his faith in the people around him than anything else. "Nah," he answered. "Pretty sure I've only got another few hours at most before I'm gonna want my legs back," he added with a wry grin. As cool as this might be, it felt weird and a little awkward. And like Bucky, he wasn't exactly ready to trust all of this to the point of trying to sleep. “They’re pretty nice legs, so I understand wanting them back,” Bucky nodded, smiling a little. It was getting easier, paying Nyx compliments and being affectionate in public. It was a change from months ago where he wasn’t ready to admit to himself that he might be attracted to men. And a lot of that ease came from Nyx himself, simply by being easy to talk to allowing Bucky to explore without question. And as complicated as it was for Nyx to have been with a different version of him, it allowed him to know Bucky’s quirks and how to navigate them, which made this whole relationship a lot easier. It was cheating, but Bucky was thankful for it. Sure, the occasional moment of weird jealousy at his other self popped up, but, ultimately, he was thankful for it. Their lobsters then arrived and there wasn’t much talking after that, as they were too busy enjoying the freshest lobster they were ever going to have. |
