Hello, Valarnet! It's been a while since I've done a proper, lengthy update--what with the whirlwind book tour and all--but now that I have completed the homestretch, I reckon I'm past due. For those of you who are new to my ramblings, I write under the name of H.B. Finn, and you may recognize my byline from one of the fine local newspapers. Or maybe you've seen my photograph on the back of a little novel called The Patchwork Monk, which was the first in my steampunk novel series.

Whatever the case, I am pleased to announce that Smoke & Miscellany (or as I have seen it abbreviated, S&M (nudge-nudge, wink-wink, say no more)) book two, The Cross-wired Machinist has been released, and you can get it just about anywhere books are sold! I hope you'll forgive the shameless self-promotion, but if you're interested in epic tales of struggle and self-discovery in a sort of Verne and Twain meet Jim Butcher style...

I'm your Huckleberry.

(And yes, I really do prefer that to my given name.)

I'm thinking about going to San Francisco for Pride at the end of June. It's about a six hour drive, which could be a fun road trip if anyone else wanted to come with me. So, this is the part where I ask if anyone would want to join me.

Finally went surfing for the first time in weeks, yesterday. I was pretty bad. I think I'm gonna go again this weekend. I don't want to get too rusty.

I guess since the excitement of Mother's Day is over now, I can make my formal introductory post to this network. This is so much better than Facebook. I hate all those stupid game invites.

So, how's everyone doing on this fine Monday?

In honour of Mother's Day, we're having a 40% off selected titles at our bookstore today and tomorrow. There will be a few tables set up to choose from, with a whole range of subjects to suit your mother's taste.

Our Mother's Day cards will also be half off, so if you're in need of a last minute gift, stop by and see us.

Bring your mother and get a free cup of coffee!

... no, just kidding. Don't hold me to that last one.

How do you possibly forget something you've seen that's been burned into your retinas and you want it to go away?

My father's here. Why is my father here? It's been ten years since we saw each other, why couldn't he have just stayed in Massachusetts? I settled on the west coast to get away from him.

I know I have obligations here now, but I'm seriously considering moving. I can't live in the same place as that man.

Fuck.

Hello. My name is Joseph, I'm something of a lifer here, I guess. Born and raised in Irvine, and now working at a book store here.

One of my coworkers was urging me to be more social and meet some new people, and suggested this network.

So hello, it's nice to meet all of you.
