Okay, I come to everyone with yet another new science fact for the day that's actually pretty cool in more than one way. A new species of dinosaur has been discovered in an opal mine Australia. The bones were discovered about thirty years ago in an opal mine, but weren't able to be scientifically studied until the past couple years.

Now, the fascinating thing here is that not only did they find remains of a single dinosaurs from a previously unknown species, but they found an entire herd consisting of multiple species of dinosaurs! Finding dinosaur fossils in this number is almost unheard of. Also because the fossils were found in an opal mine, some of them have become opalized, and the skeleton that they've been able to piece together for the new species of dinosaur is the most complete opalized dinosaur skeleton in the world. I really want to see this skeleton because I'm certain it's beyond beautiful to see in person. Also, new dinosaur!

And for those curious, the new dinosaur was an herbivore.

I know this is like the millionth post I've made regarding dinosaurs, but I'm not going to apologize for being a huge dinosaur geek. I loved them when I was a kid, and the books, and later movies, of Jurassic Park are what inspired me to go into the sciences in the first place.

A new species of dinosaur was discovered in China, and there's evidence that it had bat-like wings. Which is actually pretty cool, and another link in the evolution of dinosaurs into birds.

So I read an article earlier today that definitely falls into the "Mother Nature is stranger than fiction" category. AKA an extinct bird came back from the dead. Basically, this species of bird went extinct when the sea level rose over 100,000 years ago, but it re-evolved after the sea level fell and now lives on the same island it had lived on before it went extinct.

This isn't an anomaly, such things have happened before where a species has gone extinct only for it to re-evolve again from the same ancestor. The process is called iterative evolution, and this is just one other area of my line of work that endlessly fascinates me. I mean, what are the odds of a species going extinct, only to later on re-evolve from the same ancestor? It's kind of mind-blowing to think about how evolution can take the same exact steps, or relatively the same steps and come to the same result.

Scientists have discovered a completely new species related to humans. I'm positively fascinated by this discovery. Analysis of the bone fragments they've found shows a relation to Australopithecus, more widely known as Lucy, as well as close relations to various Homo species, including Homo Sapiens. They've called this species Homo luzonensis, but as they haven't been able to extract DNA from the fossils they've found, they don't know where in the chain of evolution these relatives of ours fall.

I just really wish I could be in that lab right now. To study another close relative of ours that we previously didn't know existed? That's like a dream come true right there for me.

I'm glad there's no more major holidays until the summer. Now we just have to deal with usual weddings and celebrity parties. Luckily we don't have anything too heavy right now. No bloody bridezillas or almost impossible requests. I know it won't last long, but I'm going to enjoy it for the time being.

Unlike most everyone else, I wasn't watching the Oscars last night. Instead, I was watching a new documentary on the Science Channel called Lost Beasts of the Ice Age. Being an Evolutionary Developmental Biologist, this was like right up my alley of interests. And holy shit the things these scientists discovered was beyond amazing.

They found an in tact Cave Lion cub, fur and all, which is extremely rare to find. There was a severed and fully in tact head of a Steppe Wolf which has never before been found. And, of course, they found plenty of Woolly Mammoth remains. They managed to get one of the best DNA samples of a mammoth ever found and they believe they can fully sequence the genome of it now, which just freaking blows my mind. Actually this whole program blew my mind, but yeah. It really is an amazing thing to watch and I highly recommend it to anyone who's interested in the subject.

Remember the holidays when you were a kid? Getting all anxious and excited about if you were good enough to get that ONE toy you really, really, REALLY wanted. Waking up on Christmas morning really early and tiptoeing downstairs to see that he brought you...watching cartoons in your PJs while mum made breakfast. (Or maybe you guys had different traditions)

And now holidays are here and gone in a flash. They're stressful and chaotic and you don't really get to enjoy it like you did.

I feel like Christmas JUST ended and I'm able to catch my breath. Between flying back home to see mum and then coming back here to jump right back into work and get back into my California groove, I don't really know what month we're in. It's almost February, isn't it?!

So, yesterday would have been Stan Lee's 96th birthday. Am I the only one who's still pretty much in mourning? T___T

May he Rest in Peace. The man gave the world so many things! Good comics, from which they made amazing television and movies. And he had such a great sense of humor! I only wish that I can make such a positive impact on so many lives!

I watched one of the movies based on his comics yesterday. Did anyone else remember him and his birthday yesterday?

Okay, middle of the night question time! What are the strange or random things that you look up on Youtube? For me, I like watching urban explorer videos. Especially when it's about abandoned malls or amusement parks. It's always so fascinating to see what these places become. It's also always interesting to see the complete lack of originality in the graffiti that is always covering these places. Can't people be a little more creative than bloody pot leafs or penises?

Normally I like to think of dream!Felix as being the one with the most common sense, but this time I can definitely understand why S and Sarah were so upset. Since Sarah and Kira still aren't safe, they're staying in a safe house with Mrs. S and I decided to bring my new found bio sister over there. Of course Sarah was also upset with me because of the whole Adele thing and because she didn't believe that Adele was really my half sister, she got Scott to secretly do a DNA test on us and it came back saying we were related, like I'd been insisting the entire time.

I'm glad that while Sarah and I have had some pretty big disagreements in the past, we've never had one quite like this from the dreams.

Okay, I have to say that the fact they've mapped the genome of ancient Egyptians and got unexpected results is kind of blowing my mind right now. Apparently they were more closely related to people from the Near East, Anatolia and Eastern Mediterranean Europeans as opposed to modern Egyptians being more closely related to sub-Saharan populations. This kind of changes the history of that area and how ancient humans migrated around.

Oh poor, sweet Donnie. This whole Neolution thing has led us to a fertility clinic and since Beth had already been there, in the past, Alison couldn't go in with Donnie, so me and him went in, posing as prospective parents. I had to stop Donnie from acting gay, because he would have given the game away. That might still happen of course. I didn't get to see how this ends. Last thing that happened was that we were both asked for a sperm sample since we both said we were going to be the father. Alison should have going over this better with Donnie.

Before that, in my search for my real family, I found my biological half sister. Her name is Adele and she's American. Kind of makes me wonder if I have any other family out there.

I'm just upset that it means her, Mrs. S and Kira are actually related and I feel like I'm on the sidelines. Bloody hell. I fell asleep at work while going over plans for an upcoming wedding. These people can be so bloody exhausting. Ended up having new dreams during my nap though.

Found out that the Castor original might be in England, so me, Sarah and Mrs. S went home to try and find him. It was really strange seeing London, in my dreams. It's been years since I've been back and it kind of makes me want to go for a visit. Anyway, turns out that the Castor original was actually Mrs. S's mother, which I already knew from a conversation I had with Cosima a couple of months ago. Turned out, she'd absorbed a male twin in the womb so she had two sets of DNA and was not only the Castor original, but the Leda original too. So, long story short, she could help Cosima.

We brought her back. Found out that Gracie was the one who tipped Castor off about what we were doing and was with Mark, one of the Castor clones. Sarah and I found out where they were and I kicked down the door, which was really fucking badass! Never tried to kick down a door before, but I might have to sometime.

We got Mark to come back with us and help us get Castor off our tails. Ferdinand was none too happy to find out that he'd been double crossed too and while Helena killed Rudy, another Castor clone, Ferdinand killed the Castor lackey.

After that, Alison won her election for school trustee and we had a celebratory dinner then Sarah, Kendall and Mrs. S all went to Iceland where Kira and her dad were. So I stayed behind with the other Sestras and hopefully we get a break after all of this.

Now I should get back to this wedding planning.
