Who: Carol Danvers
What: Full Power Narrative
When: Friday Morning
Where: Her apartment, Space, Stark Tower
Status: complete
Rating: PG-13 for naked, window rattling flyby of Stark Tower.
Note: People probably heard some sonic booms and saw what looked like a large meteorite early this morning.
When Carol awoke, it felt like lightning was shooting through her body. Lightning and pure, unadulterated power. It was as though the sun was pulsing into her. She gasped, eyes blazing, the temperature in the room shooting up four degrees as she floated out of bed. She burst out the window and shot straight up, the rising sun casting her naked body in orange and red hues.
Up and up she flew, until the earth curved away below her, until the air was gone. Two minutes from her apartment, to the edge of the atmosphere. Not a personal best. She’d do better next time. She went higher, and higher, and she stared at the sun, as it rose above the Earth’s horizon. Then she fell, arms outstretched, her laughter soundless without air to bounce off of.
Just like she’d dreamed, she hit the atmosphere at Mach 3. The friction and the heat consumed her, turning her into a glowing meteor. hot enough to incinerate. But Carol Danvers absorbs heat. She consumed it, and it fueled her. The planet rushed up towards her, and she turned suddenly, veering down the street mere feet from impact, racing around corners, and then up into the air again, arcing towards Stark Tower.
Her laughter rang in her ears as she streaked (literally) past the tower, looping around as the shockwaves from her passing made the windows rattle.
Carol felt whole, in a way she couldn’t fully explain. This wasn’t the completion that she felt, when she had her arms around Jess at night, or the missing piece that was the jet that Thor had gifted her. This was wholeness in an entirely new way.
Power, responsibility, freedom. She would never be weak again. The mantle was hers, Carol decided. She was the power of the stars themselves. She could reach for heaven and touch the sky.
She needed a better outfit, though.
