Who: Merrill and Smeagol Gollum
What: Kidnapping!
When: Tuesday afternoon
Where: Irvine Elementary School
Warnings: Rated PG-13, trigger warnings for kidnapping, but nothing graphic or explicit. Also, super-creepy use of the !musical tag.
After the last bell rang, Merrill packed up her things and helped the kids get onto the busses. It was usually a pretty smooth process, especially this late in the year. The kids had figured out a routine, and most of it was wrapped up in about 20 minutes. A strange noise at the back fence caught her attention, though. She walked around the side of the building, which was pretty deserted by now. She heard the noise again; it sounded like a child yelping. “Hello?” she called, walking toward the fence.
Parked outside, on the field, was a white van. It didn’t belong to the school, and there weren’t any logos from any of the afterschool programs that picked up children. She didn’t recognize it as the parents of any of her children. It certainly looked suspicious, and that noise.. It sounded like a child calling for help.
Merrill opened her bag, looking for her phone so she could call the school’s security officer. Just then, a large rock came down on the back of her head and her vision went black. The woman dropped to the ground, unconscious.
Cold, clammy arms wrapped around Merrill and began dragging her to the van. "The rocks and stones, are like old bones, all bare of meat," a raspy voice sang as he struggled to pull her along. "But stream and pool is wet and cool, so nice for feet."
No one seemed to notice as the white van pulled away from the school. It would be a half hour before Smyth, Mrs. Baggins’ driver, began to worry in earnest, and another hour after that before her bag and phone were found on the other side of the fence, along with a bloodied rock. By then, the van was long gone.
