Kitty couldn't sleep. She'd done her morning exercises early, and then showered, and then cleaned and then..she was going to drive herself crazy at this rate. She picked up her phone and called Xi'an.
Xi'an answered her phone. "Hello?"
"Hey! Its me." Kitty wished she had a cord so she could twirl her finger in it. She settled for her hair, "I have the day off, I was wondering if you were going to be busy."
"Hey, Kitty!" Xi'an smiled. "I happen to have the day off, too, and I don't really have anything I need to do today."
Yes! Kitty jumped in place. Then contained herself. They were just almost-roommates, "How about I pick you up and we'll get some breakfast on the go?"
"Sounds great!" It was good to get to know Kitty better before she finished moving in. And breakfast that she didn't have to cook would also be nice.
"I'll be over in a bit. Just need to get dressed. Wear something comfy, we'll be on the bike." Kitty hung up, and flew around the apartment.
A few tens of minutes later, she was idling outside of Xi'an's apartment.
Xi'an dressed and pulled her hair back into a loose ponytail. She grabbed her purse and waited until she heard Kitty's bike. She smiled and headed out. Smiling, she waved at the younger woman.
"Hey! Hop on and hold on!" Kitty waited until Xi'an was settled before gunning the bike out into traffic, weaving between cars expertly and dangerously.
Xi'an eased onto the bike and put on the extra helmet. She grabbed onto Kitty and laughed as the other woman zoomed off.
God, she could get used to this. She skirted around a semi and ran through a yellow light. She knew a place that would pack their breakfast securely and they could stow it in the saddle bags - she'd lined them with plastic just in case. She arrived at the restaraunt and took her helmet off and shook her hair out, "What are you hungry for?"
"What's the specialty?" Xi'an asked. "But I would definitely like bacon, haven't had that for a while. Maybe some kind of quiche?"
"That all sounds delicious," Kitty replied, getting off the bike, arm brushing Xi'an's playfully. "They have awesome blueberry pancakes."
Kitty rushed inside, before her mouth decided to say something embarassing.
Xi'an raised an eyebrow and followed Kitty. "I want to try the pancakes, too."
"Their syrup is to die for." She glanced at Xi'an and grinned, "Messy, but worth licking your fingers clean."
"Even better," Xi'an replied. Pancakes she didn't have to make that had a reputation of being amazing sounded like a good way to start her off day.
Kitty rushed up to the counter, "We'll take two stacks of pancakes, two of your breakfast quiches, two sides of eggs, and a large thing of bacon for my friend here. Oh, and some water." She glanced at Xi'an, "OJ?"
The woman at the counter smiled at her, "Here or to go, Katie?"
"I was thinking...to go."
The woman smiled knowingly, glancing at Xi'an, "I'll pack it for a picnic. Are you on your bike?"
"Yep!"
"Okay, we'll pack it real secure-like, hon."
"Orange juice would be great, thanks!"
"One orange juice!"
The woman nodded, "Your usual coffee?" At Kitty's nod, she rang her up, "Be about 10 minutes, why don't you two have a seat while it cooks, fresh to go!"
Xi'an thanked the woman and took a seat. She glanced out the window and smiled. It was a nice day for a picnic.
Kitty sat across from her, "I uh...well we get food here a lot, at work. They kind of know me pretty well at this point. I never could get her to stop calling me Katie."
Xi'an chuckled. "I can see how that habit could get a little old after a while. But they do know a form of your name, at least."
"Definitely not in my top three nicknames," Kitty agreed. "But I don't really mind anymore."
The lady at the counter came up, "Its done, Katie! Enjoy!" Kitty hopped to her feet and went to get the bags of food, careful to balance. True to the woman's word, everything was very secure and in warm containers.
She waited for Xi'an, and then quickly sped off. She knew just the picnic spot. Lots of nice trees and shade!
It was a beautiful spot for a picnic. Xi'an smiled when she saw it.
Kitty spent a few minutes getting food to a picnic table, before plopping her ass down on the table. She studied Xi'an, a lot of thoughts running across her face against her will. Most of them confusing, "Dig in, Xi'an." It felt good to hang out with someone. Not that it was bad to hang out with Jubilee but at least Xi'an's energy levels were normal.
Xi'an sat down and, after pouring syrup on them, took a bite of her pancakes. "Mm. These are amazing," she said. And the bacon was also amazing.
Kitty was almost a bad girl, but refrained from stealing a bite of bacon. She concentrated on her own pancakes, and licked some syrup off of her fingers, "Thought you'd like 'em!" She leaned forward, "Have your siblings been driving you up the wall?" She was guessing they had.
Xi'an chuckled. "Yeah, a little. They can hardly wait for me to find some movers." She ate a few bites of quiche. "They also love your console collection."
"I'm sure they do." And Kitty had nothing to do with anything involving Mortal Kombat, she swears. She finished off her pancakes, "I can hardly wait for you to find some movers." She laughed.
She smiled at the younger woman. "I'll make a celebration dinner when everything's moved in."
"..Really? Best roommate ever." Kitty nodded her head. And thus, it was good! She lazily went through the rest of her share of the meal, enjoying the breeze, the sunshine, and the company. And trying to place this overwhelming feeling of familiarity.
"Really." Xi'an smiled. It was going to be really nice to have another adult around to talk to. Hopefully the twins would manage not to make things too awkward.
Kitty was pretty sure she'd be the one making things too awkward. She had a gift for that. Putting the trash in the appropriate container, Kitty returned, and offered her hand, "Come one, I want to show you something awesome."
come on^
Xi'an raised an eyebrow. "Okay." She took Kitty's hand and stood up, wondering what this "surprise" might entail.
Kitty led Xi'an deeper into the trees. There was a well worn path, so it wasn't the most private of destinations, but she'd discovered it on an outing with Jubilee a year or so ago, and wanted to share it with her new friend. It ended at a stream that dropped into a waterfall that was about a dozen feet tall, and they stood at the top of the fall.
"...wow." It was an amazing view. "It's beautiful." Xi'an smiled at Kitty, glad that the younger woman had decided to show her this spot.
Kitty belatedly let go of Xi'an's hand and clasped hers behind her back, "You like? We found it last year. Jubilee dubbed it our meeting place should the zombies ever invade. That or makeout falls. She couldn't decide which."
"Yeah, it's great." Though the part about calling it 'makeout falls' did make her almost raise her eyebrows. Almost.
"We settled on Zombie Falls." Kitty laughed, and squatted down, peering over the edge, "Personally I think its too pretty for that."
"I think so, too."
Kitty looked up at her, nerves suddenly flipping around in her stomach, doing backflips.
Xi'an looked at Kitty, unsure what would be appropriate to say next.
Kitty straightened, stuffing her hands in her pockets, "So..yeah. Zombies ever come, we meet here." She grinned, a little lopsidedly. Xi'an looked gorgeous here.
Xi'an chuckled. "I'll keep that in mind."
"Okay! So! I really had no idea what else to do today. This was the extent of my getting away idea." She giggled, nervously.
Xi'an smiled. "It was a nice way to spend the morning, at least. Even if you didn't have more ideas."
"Well no ideas that are..." She blushed and looked back out over the waterfall. "You know how a lot of folks couldn't lie to save their lives last week? I sort of came to some realizations about myself."
"Yeah?"
"Yeah, I couldn't lie to myself." But it was suddenly very hard now.
"Yeah. Lying to yourself doesn't tend to work very well."
"Oh it worked for awhile. Or maybe that was denial. I'm not even sure why its a big deal but it feels like one." She picked at some grass, "I think I'm attracted to women. And not just in a 'oh I'm a little drunk lets goof around' sort of way."
Xi'an nodded understandingly. "That's a pretty big thing, yes."
"Not that I expected you to react badly or anything." Kitty hazarded a glance at Xi'an, "I just..I'm nervous. I really like you and I don't want to mess anything up."
"You're not messing anything up by telling me, and it's not going to make things weird. It just means you'll have someone close by to talk to who understands some of the things you're going through." Xi'an smiled and gave Kitty's arm a squeeze.
Kitty wasn't sure if that was the answer she wanted or not, but she didn't want to make things awkward. If nothing else, Xi'an's touch confirmed her attraction to the older woman. She did appreciate it and smiled wider, "Thanks...I might need that."
"Any time you want to talk, just let me know."
Kitty splashed water in her face, and nodded.
"You ready to head back?" Kitty didn't sound all that ready, herself, but she couldn't think of any reasons to stay.
"Sure."
Standing and licking her lips, Kitty started walking down the path. The ride on the bike might cool her down some, though the bike itself wouldn't help matters! "We should do this again sometime."
GG Kitty, you chickened out!
Xi'an grinned and nodded. "I'd like that a lot."
Hopping on her bike, Kitty pulled her helmet on so she could watch Xi'an approach a bit more discreetly. She gunned the bike, grinning at the vibrations, "Slow poke, come on!"
Xi'an laughed. "Fine, fine." She grabbed the spare helmet and eased onto the bike.
Leaning back against Xi'an a teensy bit, Kitty eased the bike down to the road, and then drove back towards civilization.
