Rock Solid Panda had another show coming up soon so he and the band had been spending a little extra time at their practice space, making sure their usual set list was going to work or if they should change it up a little. They had at least two new songs in the works so it was possible that they were going to slip one of those in if they could finish one before their gig in two weeks.
Matt and Eric had gone out to grab lunch for them all and Simon was sitting on the steps outside, tuning his bass while Kirk did something else inside.
Clary had made a point not to tell Simon she was coming. She wanted it to be a surprise. She hoped he’d be happy to see her since it had been some time since they’d seen one another last. She knew he was busy with his band but she hoped he’d have a little time to spend with her too, especially because she was moving here now.
She knew where he’d be practicing with his band and showed up when she thought he’d be around. Thankfully, there he was sitting on the steps working on his guitar. “Well hey, this seat taken?” She asked with a bit of a smile as she plopped down next to him.
For a moment Simon thought he was hearing things when Clary’s voice reached his ears, but then Clary was sitting next to him and he was sure that he wasn’t hallucinating because he hadn’t hit his head and he wasn’t dreaming, which meant that the Clary sitting next to him was really Clary, “Oh my god!” Simon quickly set aside his guitar and wrapped Clary in a tight hug, “What’re you doing here, Fray?!” Not that he had any problem with this surprise, because it was the best surprise. “Why didn’t you tell me you were coming?”
She grinned at him, happy nothing had ruined the surprise. She hugged him back tightly. It had been awhile since they’d seen one another last. She felt a little bad about that, but they both had their own lives too. “Well actually, I moved here.” She told him. “So I figured the first thing I should do was look you up and see how you’re doing. Seems like your band is doing great.”
And now that she was living here, they could spend more time together too. She wanted to hear all about his life now.
“You moved here?” Simon asked, finally pulling back to look her over; she looked just as she had the last time he’d seen her in person as well as in the dreams and that was one of the most comforting things. “If you had told me you were moving down here we could have used my van to move your stuff.” He made a mental note to text Jace and Alec later to tell them about Clary; he’d tell Izzy when he got home, “Yeah, we’re doing alright. We’ve actually got a show coming up soon so you got here at the perfect time.”
“That would have ruined the surprise,” Clary pointed out. She hadn’t had too much stuff to move anyway. She was gonna need to sell more art so she could fill her new place, it was looking pretty sparse. But she didn’t really need too much stuff either. “And the look on your face told me it was all worth it.”
She grinned at him. “I can’t wait to see you guys play.” With her living here she could make all his local shows. Maybe if they wanted, she could design their album covers later if it ever came to it. Now that was a job she’d be happy to do. And she definitely thought they had potential. “You can show me around some too, tell me all the good spots.”
“While it would have been nice to know you were coming, I have to say this was the best surprise ever.” Simon couldn’t stop grinning as he watched Clary. He had missed her so much and had hoped that she would eventually come down to the OC and now that she was sitting next to him he couldn’t think of a single thing that would make him happier in that moment, “Of course. Oh, and you can finally meet Izzy.” Simon had told Clary about Isabelle and Jace and everyone at various times so he was looking forward to introducing them all.
“Oh yeah, you’ve mentioned her.” Clary said. Simon seemed happy. And while she hadn’t met this Isabelle herself just yet, she was sure she was great since Simon seemed so taken with her. She couldn’t wait to meet Isabelle and all of Simon’s friends here as well. “It’s so pretty here, and the weather is better than home, huh? Maybe I’ll even learn to surf or something.” Starting over in a new place was not always the easiest, but she knew Simon would help her adjust.
“So what have you and the band been up to lately?” She asked. “Any gigs coming up I can go to?”
“I’ve thought about learning to surf before, but I always think I’m going to get hit in the head with the board and drown,” When he was a vampire would have been the ideal time for Simon to learn to surf since he didn’t have to worry about things like drowning, but alas the thought had never really crossed his mind at the time, “We’ll have to plan a day to spend at the beach soon.” There were so many things he wanted to do with Clary now that she was there, but he also didn’t want to overwhelm her, “Yeah. In like two weeks. I’ll text you the location, but we’ll also make sure you’re on the VIP list.” Not that they had too many people on their VIP lists, but having a VIP list made them feel a little more like a real band.
Clary couldn’t help but laugh a bit at that. “That is extremely unlikely, but maybe we can learn together or something.” She suggested. “And I would love to have a day on the beach.” She wanted to spend some time exploring too, get herself more familiar with the area and all that. “Well I can’t wait for the show and I appreciate that I’m a VIP,” She grinned. “It’s pretty here...but very different. Hopefully it won’t take me too long to get settled in.”
“Then we’ll be sure to plan one soon,” Simon was still smiling as he nodded, still unable to truly believe that Clary was sitting there next to him on the stoop. It had been so long since he’d seen his best friend in person that he still wasn’t quite sure that he wasn’t dreaming.
“Clary Fray!” Simon turned as he heard Matt’s voice and saw him and Eric walking up the street with two takeout bags, “When did you get here?”
“Are you hungry? We ordered more food than the four of us can eat.” Eric said as they reached the stoop, “It’s good to see you, by the way.”
Clary smiled and was about to reply when she heard Matt call her name. Looked like she was surprising all of them by just showing up here. “I just moved here, actually. Sure, I’d love to join you guys.” She said. She was pretty hungry and it would be nice to catch up and all that.
