Katie, delighted, made happy whuffling sounds at Loki and then very happy crunching sounds as she took a big bite out of the apple and continued to eye it warily, as if afraid the man would take the other half away because she didn't want to shove it all into her mouth at once.
"Children expect magic to be real," was Sif's take, quiet and thoughtful as she watched human and horse bond with the natural satisfaction a barn owner takes in these things. "Whereas adults are going to magic shows to see the art of the illusion, knowing it's really a performance that takes great skill and practice, not some magic whatsit. There's a lot of work in what you do, instead of it being some natural mystical gift, which is what kids want."
