New Years Eve was an extremely busy night for night clubs and Pandemonium was no exception. From the office Magnus was able to gaze down upon the packed club and smile to himself as he watched everyone having fun. So far there hadn’t been any conflicts or fights or anything that needed to be broken up, but that didn’t mean that there wasn’t security waiting just in case, but for now everything was going well so Magnus had decided to go down and join in.
He had thought about getting Simon’s band to play that night, but had figured that they would probably wouldn’t want to work on New Years and the fact that Simon was currently at the club with Izzy meant that they hadn’t been booked somewhere else either. So currently the music was being supplied by their own DJ and before heading towards the VIP bar, where Alec bartending, Magnus stopped by the DJ booth to check in.
It didn’t take long in the DJ booth and soon Magnus was walking up to the VIP bar and took a seat on Alec’s end, but didn’t call attention to himself just yet or tried not to anyway, the glitter and leather he wore had a tendency to call attention to him even when he tried not to.
Alec would be lying if he said that he hadn’t noticed his husband take a seat. He’d also made it clear to the other bartenders that he would handle the warlock’s drinks.
Given the occasion, the bar was pretty busy but it wasn’t anything that the crew was capable of handling. As soon as he served the current drinks he was making, he sauntered over to his husband. “The usual or gonna go with something new?” he asked, smirking.
A smile spread across Magnus’ lips as Alec approached and he thought for a moment, “I think I’ll have one of tonight’s specials.” Magnus made it a point to make sure that whenever there was a holiday or event of some sort they had a specialty drink that night and New Year’s Eve was definitely a night for a specialty drink. “I take it it’s going well over here tonight?” He glanced around at the people scattered around the VIP section, most of which he recognized as their VIP regulars, including Jace and a long haired man who he assumed as Jace’s plus one, Jesus.
Alec gave a nod and went to work preparing the drink. When he finished, he served it to his husband and leaned against the bar. “No charge,” he neared with a wink. “Nothing we can't handle…”. He followed Magnus’ gaze to his cousin. “Think this one will last?” he questioned. He knew that Jace still had conflicting feelings for his ex and Alec didn’t like seeing his cousin struggle. He also wished Jace could just make up his mind. As he relaxed for a moment, he drank some water.
Magnus smirked as the drink was set down in front of him and waggled his eyebrows slightly, “Oh really? Trying to get in good with the boss?” Not that Magnus was Alec’s boss considering they owned the club together, but none of that stopped Magnus from flirting with Alec while at work, “I don’t know. Jace has always seemed like the type who would date around a little before actually finding the person he’s going to stick with.” He turned his attention back to Alec after taking another look at Jace and Jesus, “Not everyone can be as lucky as us after all.”
Alec gave a casual shrug to his husband's words. “I think you mean, not everyone is as lucky as me. You certainly were pretty patient with me…” he replied as he thought back to when they’d first met. “But you know me, I just want things to be better for Jace.” Alec mentioned to the others that he was taking a short break, before taking the seat next to Magnus. “So, any resolutions for the upcoming year?”
“Well, I knew that you were worth it.” Magnus had known from the start that Alec had needed time to adjust to many things at the beginning of their relationship and Magnus had never tried to push him before he was ready. He’d known that there would be plenty of time so Magnus had been extremely patient with Alec, “Nothing in particular. What about you?” Magnus never really made resolutions because he rarely ever actually kept them.
Alec gave a shrug. “Maybe find a way to work less, and spend more time away from the club,” he mentioned. Yes, they were co-owners of the club but that didn’t mean they had to always be there. “Maybe travel more...but it’d certainly be better with some company,” he added before he squeezed Magnus’ thigh.
A slow smile spread across Magnus’ face as he placed his hand over Alec’s, lightly, “I think we could make that happen.” Magnus enjoyed traveling with Alec, showing him places that would be harder to get to if they actually needed to travel the mundane way. Ever since he’d been able to create portals traveling had become much much easier than it once had, “Got any place in mind?” They’d gone to quite a few places together already, but there were still so many other options, “Valentine’s Day is coming up soon, you know.”
Alec thought for a moment and then gave a slight shrug. “Maybe Italy...or London...or even Chicago...seeing snow would be nice. But it’s not a requirement. Speaking of Valentine’s Day, we should do some sort of themed event…”. They still had time to come up with something. “Enough about that. Tonight is about celebrating.”
Magnus’ brows rose slightly, “You want to see snow? Didn’t you see enough over the last month?” It was still strange that it snowed in California during December, but considering Magnus had spent most of his childhood and teenage years in Canada, snow wasn’t exactly something that surprised him the way it did for Californians. “I like the sound of Italy and London though. We could throw in Paris as well.” As far as Valentine’s Day went he was sure that they would come up with an event for that night. They still had over a month, “Do you think you could spare a few minutes to celebrate with me out on the dance floor then?”
“I’m used to snow being around for longer. Remember, I’m from New York City, and I do like to admíre it from a cozy spot indoors.” He gave Magnus a playful push, before pulling him towards the dance floor. “I can spare a few minutes for you, always.”
“Alright. You’ve got a point there. We could always go skiing where we could then admire the snow from a nice, cozy cabin in front of a fire” Magnus slid off his stool at the slight push and went along with Alec as he led the way to the dancefloor, “I’m glad to hear that.” He wrapped his arms around Alec’s neck as they reached the dancefloor and pulled his husband closer just as the DJ announced that it was almost midnight.
Alec smirked. “We can decide a destination, later,” he said as he put his hands on Magnus’ waist. “Let’s just enjoy the night,” he added before sneaking a small kiss.
Magnus smiled against Alec’s lips and nodded, “I think I can do that.” Magnus was very much looking forward to the new year as well as the new decade, especially if it meant getting to share it all with Alec.
It was moments like that Alec enjoyed owning a club with his husband. “Think we could get the others to do all the clean up tonight,” he suggested, giving Magnus’ waist a squeeze.
Magnus laughed and rubbed his ringed fingers against the nape of Alec’s neck, “Should we offer them an incentive? A holiday bonus maybe.” Magnus didn’t think that Caleb and the others would mind too much if they were asked to do the clean up, “Of course, I could just use magic then everyone gets to go home early.” As the music continued to play, the DJ announced that it was only five minutes until midnight.
Alec wanted to remind that cleaning up the bar at the end of the night was a regular task but he laughed. “I suppose a bonus wouldn’t hurt. They’ve earned it.” Still, Alec held onto his husband waiting for the countdown.
“I think so too.” Magnus smiled, yellow eyes never leaving Alec’s hazel ones as the DJ and everyone else in the club counted down the seconds until the entire club cheered as everyone called out the new year and the DJ began playing Auld Lang Syne, “Happy New Year, Alexander.”
Alec smiled at his husband. “Happy New Year, Magnus,” he said before going in for the traditional New Year’s kiss.
