It was another busy night in Pandemonium and Pogue hadn’t stopped serving drinks and talking to patrons since the moment he’d set foot behind the bar. Thankfully Pogue lived for this sort of thing, adrenaline and fast paced activities were the things he thrived on. He was helped by the fact he could convince Eskimoes to buy ice and had a winning smile complete with dimples and the body to back it all up. Tips were as you might expect plentiful and very generous.
It definitely helped especially as Caleb was looking at somewhere for all four of them to live and whilst Pogue knew he had family money behind him he didn’t want to dip into it too much lest he incur the wrath of his mother or God forbid inspire a surprise visit.
Ugh, no thank you.
He was currently mixing up a cocktail for a Groom-To-Be who clearly just wanted to have a good night out on the town with his friends who had at some point convinced him that dressing like a playboy bunny was the way to do things.”It is a cute tail,” Pogue said with a grin as he passed the cocktail over. “So, you gotta be grateful for that.”
Magnus was glad to see that Pogue had taken so quickly so the job and that the patrons seemed to have taken well to him as well. It helped of course to have especially charismatic bartenders, but Magnus wasn’t about to hire someone he thought was boring and luckily none of their bartenders could be called boring in the least.
He had just come from the VIP bar, where Alec was bartending that evening, brows raised slightly at the sight of the man Pogue was passing a drink to, “I have to wonder if he chose to dress up on his own or if his friends put him up to it,” Magnus said once the man had moved away from the bar, “How are things going tonight?” He asked, turning his attention to Pogue.
“Honestly? I don’t think it took too much convincing from his friends.” Pogue chuckled and added the money given to him to the nearby cash register before looking over at Magnus. His eyes had taken some getting used to but Pogue was the least judgmental person you could hope to meet and so he really didn’t care what Magnus was or what his eyes looked like.
He noticed one of the patrons gesture for a refill and he quickly headed over to do that.
“It’s been busy but nothing I can’t handle. Hell, I’d rather busy than slow. Keeps me on my toes.”
“No, it probably didn’t,” In the beginning Magnus had used brown contacts to mask his warlock mark and then had used glamours for a short time once his magic manifested, but now he could care less what anyone thought of his eyes and very rarely did anything to cover them up anymore. Besides most people who didn’t know that he was a Warlock, simply thought his cat eyes were contacts. “That’s good to hear. If it gets too busy, just let us know. Alexander would happily come over and help.” Most nights there were at least two bartenders at each bar, but on especially busy nights they would sometimes add a third at the main bar where Pogue was stationed.
“Yeah of course,” Pogue answered with a smile. He swept a hand through his hair and ended tucking the long dark strands behind his ears. “But right now it’s all good.”
He tipped his head to give Magnus a smile.
“Can I get you a drink, boss?”
Magnus smiled and nodded, “I’d love a drink actually.” Alec, Danny and Caleb were familiar with Magnus’ usual drink, but Pogue was still new so he told him what he wanted and leaned against the bar to wait, “So how long have you and Caleb known each other?” Magnus knew that they had been friends for awhile, but he didn’t know many details about their friendship aside from the fact that Pogue was also in Caleb’s dream world.
Pogue listened to what Magnus wanted and confidently began to mix it. “Ever since we were kids,” he said as he ducked down here and there to grab whatever was needed. “I’d say since we were like five or six.” Give or take a few years depending on memory as that was an unreliable narrator for the most part.
He added the now mixed alcohols to a glass and slid it across the bar to Magnus.
“Feels longer but in a good way.”
“It’s always nice to have a few friends that you’ve known that long,” Magnus might not really see many of his childhood friends often, but that’s what happened when you moved around while becoming an international supermodel. Sure, he had stopped modeling as a result of the fact that he hadn’t aged in the last couple of years, but since his childhood friends lived in Canada and he lived in California, it was still hard to keep in touch. “Did you move out here because of Caleb?” He picked up his drink and took a sip.
“Yes and no,” Pogue replied as he chanced a look at the remainder of the bar, to make sure there was nobody that needed serving. “He wasn’t the only one of my friends out here as both Reid and Tyler had moved out when he’d said he was going to. Not like there’s much of anything left for any of us back in Ipswich.”
Family didn’t really count.
“Just made sense to be somewhere close to them.”
“So in a way it was the herd mentality. Everyone else was moving, so why should you stay where you were?” Magnus took a sip of his drink, “That was how it was with my husband and his sister and cousin. Alexander moved here first then Isabelle followed him and Jace heard they were here and moved as well.” He often wondered if they were all meant to come together eventually and if that were true then he wondered if and when Clary would decide to move to the OC. After all, Simon was already there and they were best friends, so it was only a matter of time.
“Well, I’d been travelling,” Pogue replied. “Had already left Ipswich behind but when it came time to come back home it just felt like this is where I needed to be.”
He spotted somebody who needed a drink and excused himself to go and serve them, thankfully quite quickly as he did know his way around a bar.
Drink served, payment received, and Pogue returned to Magnus.
“Did you go anywhere good?” If there was one thing Magnus loved doing, it was traveling and considering he could just open a portal to anywhere he wanted and didn’t have to worry about plane tickets or anything like, he did it quite often. “Traveling is one of my absolute favorite things to do. Alexander and I did a lot of it before we came back here.”
Pogue grinned and gave a nod of his head. “Tons of place. Brazil, Mexico, Japan, China, Thailand. Places like that.” He’d also done his best to fly under the radar which meant he hadn’t travelled in style but he had definitely had a lot of fun. More importantly it had taken his mind off his father’s death which was why he’d gone travelling in the first place.
“Do you miss it? Travelling that is?”
Magnus nodded, “I do, but we try to take a vacation somewhere every year. We went to the Maldives in February actually.” Magnus took another sip of his drink, “We’ll probably plan something else soon. I haven’t been to Mexico in awhile. We’ll have to put that on our list of upcoming trips.” Of course their list of places to visit was quite long considering just how many places there were in the world that they wanted to see together.
“Sounds like a solid plan to me,” he shared with a nod of his head. “I’d definitely recommend Mexico.” He’d had a really good time and it had been just what the doctor ordered in terms of dealing with his father’s death and all the unresolved issues there.
He caught sight of a large party heading towards the bar and readied himself for that as it was going to be a crazy order. Literally all it took was look and Pogue could feel it in his gut.
“Looks like work might be calling me away.”
Magnus glanced over at the group approaching the bar and nodded, “Hope they tip you well.” He smirked and got to his feet then reached for his drink, “If you need anything I’ll be in the office.” Alec was also at the VIP bar, but he was sure that Pogue knew that already. “It was nice talking to you, Pogue.”
