Without even attempting to, Elijah found that he was exponentially increasing the list of clients he supported. Free time was increasingly becoming something that he could only dream about, given that he was having more and more face-to-face meetings. Perhaps he should look into expanding his payroll to employ more than just his assistant. Any musings on the matter were cut short, though, at the knock on his door. Of course, his next appointment.
Standing, one hand buttoned his suit jacket as he stepped forward, offering a hand in greeting. “Good morning, please...have a seat.”

Amycus had put off setting up trusts for the girls for far too long and he knew it. His parents had set some up when the twins were born but he didn’t want them to be the only ones thinking of his daughter’s futures. He needed to start taking steps. Which was why he’d started the adoption process and set up a meeting with Elijah. He knew the man was Freya’s brother and perhaps his friendship with her made him biased but he was willing to trust Elijah’s judgment in things because of it.
He’d shown up early for their meeting to make sure he could find the place and then had almost been late thanks to a last minute ‘crisis’ regarding one of his clients that he’d had to talk them through dealing with and promise to make his top priority when he reached the office to get them off the phone. A quick message shot off to one of his underlings had him confident that it would be handled by the time the day was over at the latest. Maybe sooner if he hadn’t horribly misjudged who he’d delegated it too.
He gave the other man a polite smile as he reached out to shake his hand. “Good morning Mr. Mikaelson. I appreciate you having the time to see me this morning.” He took a seat in one of the chairs in the man’s office, finding it to be as comfortable as it had looked.

“Of course. I’m always happy to make time.” He settled into his own chair, smiling politely across the desk at the man. “So how may I help? What are you looking to do, exactly? The goal will help me determine the best mixture for your portfolio, and the appropriate risk level, too.”
Elijah wanted to be sure that he was taking everything necessary into account where his clients were concerned, after all. “And let me know if you need more detail or clarification on anything. I’ve been doing this long enough that it’s second nature to me, but I know not everyone is as familiar with finance as I am. It’s why I have a job.”

“I’m looking to set up trust funds for my daughters. They’re six about to be seven and while my parents have set up funds for them I don’t want to be depending solely on them to prepare for their future.” Amycus said calmly. “Or on my soon to be husband to be solely responsible for it. I should have done it before now I know but I kept putting it off.”
“Sounds a bit like me when it comes to dealing with the press on behalf of my clients. I’m so used to dealing with it I forget sometimes that they don’t know the tricks.” He gave him a smile.
***
“You may have been better off starting the funds a few years ago but better to start today than put it off any longer,” Elijah answered smoothly. His smile widened a hair at the other man’s comment.
“I tend to forget it too. And congrats on your upcoming marriage. The girls have a little less than 20 years until they reach their majority, depending on when you want their trust funds to be accessible. It could be 21, 25, 30...whatever you wish. As such I think we’ll go with a medium risk mix of stocks and bonds.”
***
“Any chance I could make up for some of that damage by starting them off with more funds?” Amycus said, half joking. It was an actual option that he could act on thanks to his career.
“Thank you. I’m probably too excited about it but I think it’s okay just this once to be that guy that lets everyone know. I was thinking 25 actually. I’ve set up college funds for them already so they won’t need to worry that much about paying tuition. A medium risk sounds good to me. A bit like what my parents said they did for mine.”
***
“More money is almost never a bad idea,” Elijah grinned.
“I’m sure he’s a lucky man. I can empathize with the need to share good fortune.” He certainly hadn’t held back when it can to sharing news about Hayley.
“Do you have an idea of how much you would be investing initially?”
***
“I think I’m the lucky one. The girls adore him and I know that my parents do too.” Amycus said with a smile.
“I was thinking at least 10 thousand for each of them. Possibly 15 thousand.”
***
“As I said, more money is almost never a bad idea. So ten to fifteen thousand...if we invest in medium risk…” His hands moved quickly over the keyboard before turning one monitor to face Amycus.
“That’s a projection with the baseline of ten thousand dollars. Based on any future investments, a certain amount per year, perhaps a thousand dollars, you’ll see that the projection increases exponentially.” He paused, typing that in and hitting enter to update the graph so his client could easily see. “ And we can play around with the numbers a bit. Obviously I can give you all the detail you want both up-front and at regular intervals.”
***
Amycus leaned forward slightly to get a better look at the monitor Elijah was showing him. These kind of numbers he’d only seen a few times when he’d gone with his father to meet with the trust fund manager in England to discuss what they’d set up for the girls. Between that and him setting these up they’d be more than taken care of if something were to happen to him.
“I’ll be honest with you. My knowledge of money doesn’t go much beyond how much is in my bank account and writing the checks to cover the bills but what I do know tells me that this is obviously the best plan for them. Medium risk investments primarily with a little bit put into high risk if there’s one that you’d recommend.” He said looking away from the monitor to meet Elijah’s eyes.

“I’ll pull a couple and send them to you for your review,” Elijah nodded. There were two or three that would do nicely. “So before we get. To the paperwork is there anything else you want to know? Anything else I can Offer to help put your mind at ease?” He was happy to do so because, after all, if customers trusted him it made his job easier. They were less likely to cut and run
***
“Is there a way to put my fiance’s name on the paperwork too as someone you can talk to about the accounts? I’ll be putting the money in but I want him to know what’s going on and be able to discuss it with you as well. Just in case something were to happen to me.” Amycus asked.
***
“Absolutely,” Elijah nodded. “I’ll need information from both of you and a few signatures but it won’t be an issue. I can even give you joint entitlement if you would like?”
***
“That would be wonderful actually. I can have him call your office to set a time to come by and sign whatever he needs to? His schedule is a bit different than mine so I generally leave it to him to set up appointments.”
***
“Perfect,” Elijah nodded. “I’m sure we’ll have the details set in no time. Is there anything else I may help you with?”
***
Amycus gave the other man a brief smile at that question. “Not today. Let’s just get everything started that we’ve already discussed.”
***
“Of course.” It wouldn’t take but a few minutes to finalize the paperwork and then everything would be good to go moving forward.
