Sometimes you just need a good hamburger with a milkshake and fast food didn’t cut it, especially how nasty the grease could be. Isobel had been stuck in her office all day and instead of going home and ordering in - that was most of her nights. She decided that she wanted a hamburger and milkshake, so she decided to go to Ortecho’s diner.
As she walked in, she looked out of place in a business suit and heels, but she slid off her jacket, laying it over her purse and found an empty booth. Sitting her purse between her and the window she reached for the menu debating on what kind of hamburger she wanted for dinner.
Liz had just started her new job at Godfrey Industries and even though it had only been a few days and she was still learning her way around the building and what projects she would be working on, but so far she was enjoying being back in the environment she had been in before she’d moved back home.
Despite working at Godfrey’s now, she was still planning on helping her parents out a few nights a week at the diner and was coming in to see if they needed an extra hand tonight. However, before she spotted either of her parents, she noticed someone she hadn’t seen in years sitting in a booth by the window and made her way over, “Isobel Evans. How’ve you been?” They had talked briefly on the network, but it had been a long time since they had seen each other.
Isobel was still looking over the menu when she heard Liz voice, she looked up and smiled, “I’m rather well, how are you, Liz?” she asked back as she sat the menu down. “I just decided to have a cheat day and come to the best place to get a hamburger and a milkshake at.”
With a wave of her hand, "care to join me?” she asked, it had been a short talk on the network a few days ago and well be nice to chat while having dinner, right?
Liz couldn’t even remember the last time she’d actually seen Isobel and while they hadn’t been close in a long time, she decided to take the opportunity to do a little catching up, “Well then you came to the right place,” She said, sliding into the booth across from Isobel, “The chocolate is my personal favorite. Of course, I’m biased.” Liz smirked as she watched the blond across from her.
Isobel offered a small chuckled to her joke, but nodded her head, “Sounds perfect for a cheat day,” she replied as she put the menu down since she decided what she wanted. While they waited for a waiter she folded hands in her lap. “So how are you?” she asked.
“It’s been eons since we’ve spoken to each other, minus the other day on the network. Are you doing well? How is your family?” she added with a smile as she leaned slightly back in the booth.
“I’m good. Just got a new job, but I’m still helping out here when my parents need the extra help.” The diner wasn’t exactly busy at the moment so she had a feeling they had a hand;e on it at the moment, “And my parents are good. Still running the place, obviously. And Rosa is...I’m actually not sure where my sister is at the moment.” She’d texted her older sister a few days earlier and had gotten back a few replies, but otherwise they hadn’t really talked in awhile. “How about you? How’ve you been?”
“Been busy with the law firm,” Isobel replied with a smile, “spending most of my days in courts or with clients,” she shrugs her shoulder, “it’s flourishing and fulfilling.” She was really all about her work, she honestly hadn’t done anything just for fun for a while. “Quite boring,” she added with a small chuckle. “Tell me about the new job, who will you be working for?” Isobel inquired.
Liz’s brows rose slightly, “That’s impressive. Is it your own firm?” Liz wasn’t the least bit surprised that Isobel had gone into something like law. “Godfrey Industries in the Biomedical Engineering department.” Liz hadn’t thought that she would have found a job in her field so soon after moving back, but had jumped at this opportunity when she had seen the job listing.
“Yes, I paid my dues with someone else being my boss, I didn’t like it.” Isobel chuckled “so I started my own firm, took on cases that no one wanted,” she shrug her shoulders, “Criminals need lawyers too and willing to pay top dollar for it.” She smiled, “we all can’t be soft heartedly like Matt.” When Liz spoke of the company, she nodded her head, “I’ve heard of them!”
“That’s fantastic, Isobel.” In a second hand way Liz knew what it was like to own your own business since her parents had owned the diner since she was young. “That must be tough though. Defending people who you know are guilty. “I’d read a few articles about them in the past so when I saw the job listing, I had to jump on it.”
“It’s money,” she answered honestly, all it was to her, “Sure I might seem callous about it, but all it is.” Isobel shrugged her shoulders, it was really what divided her and her twin. But it kept her to the lifestyle she grew to like. Smiling to her next comment she nodded her head, “I hope it works out for you!” When was the last time Isobel talked to anyone other than Michael...it had been awhile, “How is your family?” she asked.
“Thanks. I hope so too.” So far Liz had a feeling that this new job would be a good one and she was looking forward to getting more into it. “They’re good. Well, my mom and dad are. I haven’t really talked to Rosa in awhile.” Sibling trouble was something that she and Isobel seemed to have in common.
She nodded her head, “I talked to Max for the first time in...months,” she shrugged a shoulder, she definitely knew siblings issues, “Been having dreams that didn’t make sense,” she shrugged her shoulders one more time, “Seems like I was the only one, so could just be stress from work getting to me.” She smiled, but it didn’t reach her eyes, “I’m glad you parents are good.”
Liz’s brows rose slightly, surprised to hear that Isobel and Max didn’t talk. “You and Max don’t talk?” She never would have thought that was possible since they had been so close during high school. “Dreams, huh? I’ve been hearing a lot about dreams these days.” So Isobel and Max were having the dreams too? It appeared that everyone she knew was having them. “Do they take place in Roswell, New Mexico?”
“No? He’s highly against my job,” she told her with a shrug, “and I think he’s wasting his talent in court,” she shook her head it was a shame since they were kinda closer than now. “Yeah,” she confirmed, “all in Roswell, I woke up in a dessert with him and Micheal. I was really odd, but Max had no idea what I was talking about, thank god Micheal had them or I would think I was going crazy.”
“That’s too bad, but I can relate. I don’t see much of Rosa either.” Liz wished that they were close like when they were younger, but she couldn’t always get what she wanted, “Yeah, I had one about being in Roswell, which was strange, but at least we’re not alone.” She smiled as glanced towards the kitchen area and saw her mother trying to get her attention, which usually meant that her and her father needed something, “It looks like I’m needed. It was really nice to see you again Isobel.”
Liz had a point and Isobel nodded her head, “You are right, we aren’t alone.” When Liz mention she had to go, “hold on,” she pulled out her business card, “Call me some time,” she offered as she slid it to her. “Have a good night,” she offered before Liz headed to the kitchen.
