With it being a federal holiday and Ruby more or less working a government job, she had the day off. Which meant she had thrown herself into her workroom. Only this time she wasn't focusing on tinkering on things or new inventions or working on Crescent Rose. No. She was staring at the wall which looked more like a murder/conspiracy wall one might see on a crime show or the like than how it usually looked with different schematics for building or pictures of places to visit or from her birthday the year before with Team RWBY at the ice skating rink and things like that. No. Her focus was entirely on what was going on with Weiss and how to help her.
Because it was clear that she needed their help. But this wasn't like fighting the Grimm. This wasn't even like what they had learned about the fight against Salem and the mission to stop her. This was a very human bad person and while she had fought humans before with Logan when she had joined the rescue mission for Ilia, it was still...different. Which meant Ruby didn't know what to do and that led to the old doubts and insecurities that often would plague her before. She didn't do well when her friends were hurting and being unable to help her team. And this wasn't like Blake's stepping aside to get herself to a place to be able to be part of the team again at her best, where the goal was to come back. This was Weiss being gone and clearly not by her choice. Just as it hadn't been her choice when her father took her back to Atlas.
So there were notes upon notes on the walls. Each wall seemed to have a different focus. One was focused on the Schnee Dust and Diamond companies. Information she had gotten both from research she was doing when she had time, as well asking Ilia what she knew. Because it was clear the teen had dealings with the Schnee Diamond Company and while she hadn't been happy to talk about it, she had given Ruby information that she couldn't find elsewhere. Parallels. So many parallels.
Then there was the wall dedicated to Weiss specifically. Important dates. Things that had been mentioned. September 21st for the Rita Skeeter article. The day the Traditional Values post went up with printed out copies of the conversations she had been able to see. The day they had the same dream and the comment on how her dad would kill her if she went to the hospital and how it had left a bad feeling in Ruby. The broken scroll message. How no one was ever at Weiss' when she or Yang went by. The radio silence and then the surprise proposal from December 21st. It really was that one that had set all of this into motion. Ruby had been concerned before but had still believed that there were other possible explanations even as Qrow had told her not to doubt her instincts. The article had just solidified it, which really was when her work room became this.
It was also when the nightmares and headaches had really started up again. She pushed them aside as she always did but with no new Dreams and trying to figure out what to do... she knew once a plan was in order, her headaches would stop, they had when she had helped Blake rescue Ilia. But right now there were just questions. So many questions. Because even if they knew there was a performance in New York, that didn't say where Weiss was now.
But today she had added a new wall. The Elsa wall. It had less information but she had been in the September 21st article by Rita Skeeter. She had seen the comments on Weiss' post when the new campaign was rolled out. There had been something there. One of those things that no one really talked to Ruby about because it never connected and her eyes tended to glaze over. But she knew there was something there. It was one a whim that she had looked at her text conversation with Elsa when she had announced her work trip. The same sort of generic replies but she had been so confused and worried about Weiss that she hadn't put too much thought into it. But then there had been no more contact from Elsa. No response to holiday greetings. And once she had printed out the comment threads from the one post, she had started to wonder.
She was missing something. She knew she was. Hearing a sound behind her, Ruby blinked and then looked down.
"Hey, Zwei." Smiling some, she picked up the corgi before looking back to the walls.
"What do you see, Zwei? How can we help them?" Because while part of her was doubting herself, saying that Elsa probably was just away, Ruby couldn't shake the feeling now that she was wrapped up in all of this as well. Which meant she needed help as well. All she wanted to do was protect her friends. Really anyone. But she felt so hopeless right now. Rubbing her forehead, Ruby blinked as Zwei barked and put him down.
"I don't know either, but I'll figure something out..." If only she knew where the two were because that would be a big step in figuring something out.
Another bark and Ruby gave a small smile.
"Okay let's take you out. Besides you're right, if I stay in here too long then dad and Yang are going to worry. Besides, maybe the fresh air will do some good and give me some ideas."
That was the theory at any rate. No matter what, even as locked up the work room for now, Ruby knew she'd be back in there once she got back from taking Zwei on his walk. There were still too many unanswered questions and even if logically she knew that staring at the different walls looking for clues or insight really wouldn't do her much good, she couldn't really stop herself either. Because she also never knew when something might jump out at her that would give her some ideas as well.
But right. Taking Zwei out and then figuring things out from there.
