To be honest, Yang wanted to take Weiss to a gay club. Or even a strip club. But even without Douchdad, Yang was pretty sure Weiss was the last person she wanted as her wingman. And it would be too tempting to make a pass at her and even without Elsa in the picture Yang was adverse to fucking up another friendship.
So instead, because Weiss needed to get out and it was loud and crowded enough they could talk without fear of someone spying on them, Yang took Weiss to a roller rink.
“Did you really need to spend an hour shopping for skates? They rent them, you know.”
"Rent?! Share shoes with... the unwashed roller skating masses? Are you crazy?" Weiss asked, while tying the laces on her skates tighter. She was up for some fun, sure, but this was a little scary. She honestly hoped it went better than the time they'd gone ice skating. She'd spent far too much of that time on the floor.
Weiss finished lacing her skates up, and then spun a few of the wheels on the bottom, trying to figure out if they were a death trap or not. "Do you have any idea how many diseases can be transmitted from one person's foot to another?"
Yang could only grin at Weiss, her reaction exactly what she’d expected and hoped for. “I’m sure lots, and I’m sure you use some kind of great cleanser.”
Then she held her hand out for Weiss. “Lets see if you’ve gained any more grace since ice skating.”
"Oh, hah hah," Weiss replied, while rolling her eyes. The ice skating had been painful, more to her ego than her own rear end; Though that, too, had been raw for days. "Like you're the picture of grace in our dream world. I'm absolutely certain that some of that natural dancer's grace I had there has finally bled through."
Not certain enough to be the first one out onto the rink, though. Definitely not certain enough for that. Especially with all the people rolling around like maniacs on it.
“Hey, I’m graceful!” Yang gestured at herself with her thumb. “Okay, maybe I’m more brute force but I learned how to be graceful.” She skated backwards, then spun around like she was, indeed, just a little bit more graceful. Then she skated back, grabbed Weiss’s hand and pulled her onto the rink. Almost immediately she had them moving with the flow of other skaters.
Skating around on a roller rink was not supposed to be a harrowing experience, Weiss thought. It was supposed to be fun, and most of the people around them definitely looked like they were enjoying themselves. To her, there were too many people rushing to either side, and it wasn't as serene and quiet as the ice rink had been. Of course, that had been a special day where they'd had it mostly to themselves.
She clenched onto Yang's hands, trying to make her feet work with the grace she knew she had, "Don't let go!"
“You’ve done ballet right?” Yang asked over the crowd, “Gymnastics? Think of it as the same principle! Grace, balance!” And then, because she still was the kind of person to teach someone to swim by throwing them in the lake, she swung Weiss out and let go.
"I'm not sure it's-" Weiss said, about to express her extreme doubts on how closely dancing related to roller skating. But then she was cut off, and ended up spinning wildly out of control as her wheels took her faster than her body could catch up with.
Dignified people tried not to scream in moments like this, though Weiss desperately wanted to. Instead, she bit down on her lip and started flailing her arms in place, as if that would somehow slow down her momentum or help her achieve balance.
It looked like a bird trying desperately to take flight. A hysterical moment for some of the skaters that were gawking, up until her arm made contact with someone's body and she ended up falling flat on her behind. "... not exactly like ballet." She finished, trying not to let her eyes tear up.
It was both adorable and hilarious, the way Weiss flailed and even screeched as she tried to keep control. Yang winced when she went down, and quickly skated over. “Okay so maybe throwing you into the deep end wasn’t the best idea. Up up up.”
She pulled Weiss to her feet, steadying her by her waist. “Okay, lets try this and cling to me. I’m your support.”
"I am nothing like a baby bird," Weiss remarked, while trying to maintain her balance. She was clinging to Yang tightly enough that anyone who didn't know them might have thought they were more than friends. Weiss didn't notice or care. In that moment it was all about staying upright. "You cannot just toss me out of the nest. I hope no one was getting that on video..."
She complained loudly and often, but the half smile she gave Yang indicated she didn't really mean it. Weiss let one hand go and held it out a bit for balance (making sure to keep it tucked far enough in this time), then tried rolling forward a bit. Balancing on four wheels wasn't as hard as balancing in a little blade on the ice, at least. "If someone had told me a year ago that you'd be the one supporting ME on a roller rink... I think I might have died."
“Chirp chirp motherfucker.” Yang smiled at her, and guided her around the rink. While she might be there to support Weiss both on skates and dealing with coming out to herself, Yang needed this just as much. To be needed, to just hang out and do that friend thing with someone she felt as close to as her sister.
"Don't be crass." Weiss admonished, and rolled her eyes. But she skated alongside Yang for a little bit, still with one arm around Yang's waist for safety until something about the flow of the people, music, and skates all seemed to click together. It was almost like combat in a way, its own dance with its own rules.
She let go, very tentatively, and started to skate on her own. "I think I've... got it?"
Grinning, Yang fished out her phone to record the scene. “You’ve totally got it, Weiss! Try not to fall on your butt because if you do I’m so sending this to Ruby.”
It was both a threat and a promise.
The pressure was on. Weiss liked to think she did well under pressure, but that usually depended on whose pressure she was working under. She snorted at Yang and continued to skate along at an even pace.
"You are so lucky that there isn't anything you're awful at. But when I find something? I'm going to make sure I threaten you with embarrassing videos, too. Just you wait, Yang Xiao Long. Your reckoning is coming."
