What: A conversation with a ghost
Rating/Warnings: Family Friendly

Caroline still hadn’t forgiven herself for not being there when her mother lost consciousness. For being out on a date with the douchiest guy she had ever dated. She didn’t get to hear her mother’s last words. She wasn’t there for her mom in her final waking moments. It helped knowing Tyler had been there, but it wasn’t enough. Caroline hadn’t been able to say goodbye.
When Jeremy mentioned he was a medium, Caroline couldn’t help but wonder if that meant he could talk to her mom. It gave her hope. That she could tell her mom everything she didn’t get the chance to when her mom was still alive.
As soon as Jeremy arrived at her house Caroline answered the door with a smile on her face. “Hey,” she greeted giving him a hug before letting him inside. “Thank you so much for doing this,” she said as she led him further into the house. “Can I get you anything?”
Jeremy had never actually tried to call on a ghost, in the waking world. His parents always just showed up whenever he needed them, but he’d done it in the dreams, so he knew what he needed to do to try and contact Liz Forbes. He was a little worried that he wouldn’t be able to contact her and that he’d wind up disappointing Caroline and after everything she’d gone through, that was the last thing he wanted to do.
Reaching her house, he parked in the driveway then headed up to the door, smiling at the blond as she answered the door. It was still a little weird seeing Caroline, knowing that she was a vampire because it reminded him that eventually Elena would be a vampire too.
“Don’t thank me yet.” Jeremy really hoped that he wasn’t about to disappoint her, “And no thanks. I’m good.”
Caroline led Jeremy over to the couch. “If you change your mind, let me know.” In regards to wanting something to eat or drink that was. She was hoping he wouldn’t change his mind about trying to contact her mom.
“So,” Caroline began taking a seat. “How does this work?”
Jeremy nodded and followed Caroline into the living room where he sat down on the couch, glancing around the room. It had been a long time since he’d been at Caroline’s house and it was more or less the same as before. “Basically I just have to be thinking about the person I want to contact and if they’re nearby, I should be able to see them.” Besides his parents, there hadn’t really weren’t any other ghosts Jeremy had seen so this was going to be an interesting experience, “Are you ready?”
Caroline gave a small nod. She was trying not to get her hopes up too high, but she really wanted to talk to her mom one last time. Even if it wasn’t directly. Talking to her through Jeremy was better than nothing. She still felt so much guilt for not being there. “I’m ready,” she said softly.
Jeremy nodded and made himself comfortable before he closed his eyes and pictured Elizabeth Forbes. He’d know the woman since he was little so it was easy to envision her. In the dreams people he wanted to see simply appeared before him when he thought about them so he assumed it would be the same, but there was a small part of him that didn’t think it was going to work. However, when he opened his eyes, Sheriff Forbes was sitting on the couch across from him, “She’s here.”
Jeremy wasn’t the only one who didn’t think this would work. Caroline also had her doubts. She sat in silence while Jeremy closed his eyes. Each second felt like an eternity. Until he finally spoke. Caroline could already feel a lump forming in her throat. “Mom?” Caroline asked softly barely able to get the word out.
“Caroline,” Liz replied looking right at her daughter.
Caroline couldn’t hear what her mom said but she went right on talking anyway. “Mom, I’m so sorry. I should have been there. I shouldn’t have left you with Tyler,” she stopped the lump in her throat growing to big. She couldn’t get any more words out.
“Caroline, no. It wasn’t your fault. I wanted you to take a night off.” Seeing her daughter so upset broke Liz’s heart. “I know how hard it was for you to leave. But it’s okay. I want you to live your life.”
Jeremy had never had to relay messages like this while talking to a ghost, in the waking world. It had only happened a few times in the dreams so he paid extra close attention to what Liz was saying so that he would be sure to relay everything properly, “She says it wasn’t your fault. She wants you to live your life.” He glanced back at Liz. Looking at her and knowing that she was a ghost reminded him that in the dreams, almost everyone’s parents had died one way or another.
Caroline nodded, not really knowing what to say. She still felt like she should have been there. But she couldn’t exactly argue with a ghost. Besides she didn’t want to argue with her mom. “I miss you,” she said instead, suddenly sounding incredibly small.
“I know,” Liz replied. “I miss you too. But I’ll always be a part of you. I’m always with you.”
As Jeremy sat there between Caroline and Liz, he started to wonder if perhaps he should ask Elena if she had any desire to do this same thing with their parents. Neither of his sisters had gotten to say goodbye properly; not like he had once he’d started seeing Miranda and Grayson.
“She misses you too and she’ll always with you.” Jeremy said, turning to Caroline.
Caroline nodded not sure what else to say. She wished she could see her mom for herself. But talking to her through Jeremy was better than nothing.
“I have to go now,” Liz said. “Tell Caroline I will always love her.”
Jeremy knew that some people would probably think that he was just telling Caroline what she wanted to hear, but anyone who actually knew him, Caroline included, would know that he was being 100% honest.
“She has to go, but she’ll always love you.” He said, watching Caroline, knowing that she probably wished she had more time.
“Goodbye, Mom.” Caroline said tears falling from her eyes. “I love you.”
Once the words were out Caroline took a moment to compose herself. She wiped the tears from her eyes and forced a small smile on her face. “Thank you.”
Watching Caroline, part of him felt like he was intruding on what should be a private moment, but at the same time Jeremy knew that when he’d been going through his own parents’ deaths, he hadn’t really wanted to be alone despite how he may have acted at the time, “You’re welcome. I’m glad I was able to do this for you.”
“Me too,” Caroline said softly. “But seriously I owe you,” she added slowly getting back to her usual self. Or at least faking it better for the moment. “If you want someone to plan your wedding for free…” Not that she wouldn’t have done it for free anyway. But still. “I may know someone.”
Jeremy couldn’t help but smile at the offer, “Oh really? Well tell this person that we just might be interested.” He had a feeling that Myrcella’s mother would likely want to plan the whole thing, but they’d already decided that they were going to do their own thing and having Caroline plan their wedding would give them more freedom than if Cersei did it.
