Dinner with her dad had been a huge success. Of course the second they got back to her place she asked her dad what he thought of the night, only to hear how he did indeed approve of Tyler. There had been no doubt in Caroline’s mind that he would approve. But still hearing it? It made her heart swell. She had to go see Tyler. Thank him for going to the dinner in the first place and for making such a good impression on her dad.
The blonde hurried over to her boyfriend’s apartment, knocking on the door furiously. She couldn’t help herself. She was too excited to see him. Even if it had only been like an hour since they parted ways.
Tyler had just managed to strip down to his boxers, crack open a beer, and take a seat in front of his TV to play some Grand Theft Auto when there was a knock on his door. He frowned to himself, wondering who it could be. Dinner with Caroline’s dad had been beyond nerve wracking, and he’d been looking forward to getting some time to just chill out for once. Klaus, luckily, hadn’t bothered him since he’d told him off for always calling him, but for a moment he worried it was him.
But he tuned his ears, and it was hard for him to not recognize the rhythm of Caroline’s heart and breath, and instead he smiled to himself and paused the game. This, at least, was a welcome distraction. He rushed to the door, only seconds having passed from Caroline knocking, and opened it. “Long time no see,” he teased.
Caroline didn’t even bother to respond, well with words. She just wrapped her arms around Tyler’s neck and pulled him in for a deep, passionate kiss. She was practically pouring her gratitude, and even the love she felt for him into the kiss. When she finally pulled away there was a large smile on her face. Larger than her usual ‘Caroline Forbes’ smile. “Looks like you made a good impression on my dad.”
Tyler hadn’t thought the meeting with Caroline’s father had gone badly, but it was still a huge relief to hear that he’d made a good impression. Especially if it was going to get him a kiss like that. He lifted her off her feet and turned into his apartment, closing the door behind him and putting her back down once the kiss broke. “Good,” he said, grinning. “Not going to lie, your dad scares the hell out of me.”
Caroline laughed slightly at that, her eyes shining with just how happy she was. “Well you did amazing,” she commented. “Thank you.” It was a big step, meeting the father. Of course Caroline already knew Tyler’s family, just like Tyler knew her mother. But even though Caroline was pretty close with her dad he hadn’t exactly been around when she was in high school. “So,” Caroline said her arms still wrapped around his neck. “What did you guys talk about when he asked me to leave?”
“Why you keep calling him crying,” Tyler answered truthfully. He wouldn’t hide that from Caroline. But that wasn’t all, or even the most important part of the conversation, and his voice softened. “And about how much I love you,” he added.
Caroline started to frown. She didn’t want to worry her father. The dreams were just hard sometimes. But then she heard Tyler’s next sentence and a smile broke out across her face.
Was he really? Did he really just? She had to hear it again. “How much you what?” Caroline asked almost in disbelief. She had been in love with him for so long. Had admitted it to him months ago, before they were together. To finally hear it? She had to be sure she heard it right.
“I love you, Caroline,” Tyler said. He wasn’t sure, before, if he should say it. It wasn’t that he doubted he loved her, but he had never quite been sure if he deserved to love her. Caroline was great. She was probably the greatest woman on the planet, and he didn’t know how she could have possibly loved someone like him. But not only had he successfully stood up to Klaus - he hadn’t called on Tyler since Tyler had gone to clean up his window - but he’d also won over her father, which was almost equally as much of a challenge. Maybe he wasn’t quite as unworthy as her as he had thought.
Finally. But Caroline didn’t dare say that. While they had told each other they loved each other back in high school, Caroline wasn’t sure she would ever hear Tyler say that to her again (other than in the dreams of course.) She had certainly never stopped loving him. But when she had said it months ago and he turned her down part of her wondered if he really ever had loved her or if it was just high school infatuation. Even when they got back together she still couldn’t help but wonder, doubt even, if Tyler loved her.
She left all that unsaid though, instead she just beamed at her boyfriend. “I love you too,” she replied. “But you already knew that.” Yes she was admitting she did not in fact blackout after the last time she told him. However she didn’t give him a chance to respond, instead she went in for another kiss.
Tyler pulled her in close, arms wrapped around her waist, not needing to worry about holding back his considerable strength now that she was a vampire, and kissed her back passionately, pulling back only to nod his head toward the stairs that led up to his bedroom and ask, “You wanna?”
Did she want to sleep with her incredibly hot boyfriend who had just told her he loved her for the first time? What kind of question was that. All Caroline could think about right now was being close to him, being with him. Solidifying this moment in the most passionate way she knew. She didn’t respond with words. Lips locked back onto his, her legs began moving with vampire speed as she made her way up the stairs, bringing Tyler with her, never breaking the kiss in the process.
