In London, travelling by motorcycle was more of a necessity than anything else. A quick and easy way to weave through the busy London traffic to get from point A to point B, while looking cool all at the same time. In California, well, it was still useful for weaving between traffic, but there was the added bonus of the fact that there were long stretches of highway, where James could just ride without worrying about the other cars nearby, and could feel the wind in his hair. With the added bonus of being able to take his bike in to Sirius whenever need be.
He’d just finished a nice, long cruise, and pulled into the petrol station to fill up. He pulled his helmet off his head, shook out his wind-swept hair, and shot a smile at the pretty, if not weirdly pale, girl who was also filling up her vehicle.
Liv sighed as she filled up the tank of her Honda Accord. It was so boring. It was all she could do to not go out and buy herself a nice bike. She had to remind herself that this was the brain talking. She didn’t really want a motorcycle. Besides she didn’t have the money for one anyway. However, when one pulled up beside her. She was so busy staring at the bike she almost missed the guys smile. “Nice ride,” she commented with a small smile of her own.
James ran his hand through his hair, messing it up in the way he had managed to perfect during his school days. “Thanks,” James said, and added proudly, “It’s a KRGT 1.” He wasn’t sure if she’d know what he meant, but that didn’t mean he couldn’t brag about it still.
Oh. Of course Liv knew what that meant. At least this week. Ask her in another week and there was a chance she would have no idea. “Shit,” Liv commented still eying the bike. This guy clearly had money if he could afford a KR GT 1. That was a custom bike after all. “How’s she ride?”
“Smoothly,” James said, grinning. “At least now. She was having a few problems earlier, but I managed to find a shop that got her up and running.” And that’s where he’d met Sirius, the man who James felt himself inexplicably drawn to. He shook the thought of Sirius out of his head. “Do you have one?” She wasn’t driving one, but that didn't mean much. James often drove his car too, mostly when he didn’t want to end up at his destination with helmet hair.
“I wish,” Liv replied. Part of her had the urge to go out and buy one. But she resisted that impulse. She knew soon enough she would no longer have interest and it would just be a waste of money. “I just have to settle for admiring from afar… I’m Liv by the way.”
“Someday, maybe,” James said encouragingly. He reached across his bike for a handshake. “James. How’d you like to go for a ride?” he asked, and then added, “just a short one, promise.”
“How can I turn down an offer like that?” Liv replied her smile spreading across her face. “Let me just move my car.” She certainly couldn’t leave it at the gas pump while she went for a ride. She quickly pulled into one of the gas stations parking spots and hopped back out of her car, heading over to James, relieved that he was still there. Because man, she really wanted to test out his bike.
“You should know. I have a boyfriend.” As much as she wanted that ride, she wasn’t about to betray Dan. Or do anything that could be perceived as betraying him.
“I guess I’ll have to live with that,” James said, giving her a rakish smile. Though there’d definitely been a flirty reason for making the offer, he found he wasn’t too disappointed by the news.
“I’ve only got one helmet, so it’ll have to be a short trip,” he said, holding the helmet out to her. He didn’t expect to get into an accident, but he’d rather not risk a run-in with the police, though paying any fine they handed him wouldn’t hurt too much.
Liv didn’t really need a helmet, but she wasn’t about to explain why to James. She also wasn’t worried about the cops. She knew she couldn’t count on Leon to always get her out of trouble. But she was on good enough terms with most of the PD that she could probably get James out of a ticket if needed. “Don’t worry,” Liv said putting the helmet on and climbing on the back of his bike. “I have an in with the cops.”
“That’s good to hear,” James said, glad that at least one of the problems with only having one helmet were resolved. He waited until he felt Liv secure behind him, and then took off, weaving out of the gas station and into the street. Once on the stretch of road, he gunned it, not going much beyond the speed limit but speeding up to it quickly.
The ride went way too fast and Liv enjoyed every second of it. But soon enough they were back at the gas station. She hopped off the bike, taking her helmet off her head and handing it back to James. “Thanks,” she said giving him a smile. “That was awesome.”
James pulled up next to Liv’s car, his hair wild from the wind. He shot her another grin as she handed the helmet back to him. “It was, wasn’t it?” he asked, glad that she seemed to have enjoyed herself. “If you ever want to go for another ride, just give me a ring. I’ll make sure to bring an extra helmet too.”
“I definitely will,” Liv said already pulling out her phone so James could put in his number.
James keyed his number into the phone and handed it back. “You have a good one, Love,” he said cheerily. “Try to convince that boyfriend of yours to buy you a bike.”
“I will!” Or she would try to tell Dan to convince her not to buy one. But James didn’t need to know this was a passing phase. “Thanks again.”
