It had been one of the nights Freya was actually back in the county given the current state of affairs that had her in and out of Orange County at a dizzying rate. And of course since she was in Orange County, that meant a dream. Inviting Keelin to the party that her family was throwing to figure out who was helping the Hollow. As well as helping Hayley relive the night her parents were murdered. Which...explained why she’d been getting hit with waves of pain during some of her work thanks to the traumatized energy that was left behind.
But what seemed to really stick was her conversation with Vincent and more so, the conversation with Keelin after Elijah killed someone in front of everyone. Of how she had decided to make a different choice for herself and separate herself from her family to not be as they were. And it was true that Freya had distanced herself from her parents and her father’s votes in her work and life…
There was yelling and pounding on the door though and Freya woke with a start and went to go see what was going on. She had never been visible but she had heard enough and she could feel herself growing angry. Klaus may not be willing to help but he wasn’t the only one who had access to his blood. Not wanting to hear Tyler beg and knowing Klaus was going to say no (she could tell by his voice), Freya had returned to her room and found one of the vials of blood and headed back to the stairs, just as Klaus was closing the door.
Heading down, the witch shot a glare at her brother and then went straight to the door, snapping his neck when he tried to stop her without losing a step. Opening the door, she saw Tyler heading to his car.
“Wait. Here.”
Tyler stopped when he heard Freya, though he wasn’t entirely sure why. She was just another Mikaelson out to humiliate him, but this one, at least, he didn’t have to listen to. Still, he turned on his heel, Caroline still in his arms. “What do you want?” Tyler asked, his fangs protruding and his eyes yellow in his rage. “I don’t have time to stand around and talk.”
It took all of Freya’s self control not to roll her eyes and just go with the anger and fangs and all other signs of being a hybrid. If Tyler was trying to frighten her, he was failing. Instead she just held the vial of blood out.
“This is what you needed, right? Niklaus’ blood? Just because my brother feels an idiotic need to assert his dominance with no care who gets hurt doesn’t mean I’m going to stand by and let someone die. So take it.” Or she’d snap his neck and give Caroline the blood herself. Honestly her main goal was not letting someone die for no reason than petty pride. Of course, only those who knew Freya would know that the use of Niklaus was a sign of how pissed off she was at her brother as she only resorted to that when her brother had crossed a line.
There was no quickening of breath or heartbeat to indicate she was lying. Just because she was a Mikaelson didn’t mean she was going to try and humiliate someone.
Tyler glowered at Freya, though as her words sunk in his hybrid features faded to look more human. He wouldn’t put it past a Mikaelson to double cross him somehow, for their own deranged Mikaelson reasons, but he reminded himself that out of every Mikaelson he’d ever met, Freya had consistently been the most reasonable. He adjusted Caroline’s weight so he could carry her in one arm, and then took the vial from Freya.
“This is Klaus’s blood?” he verified, popping the cap off of the vial and holding it to his nose. It sure smelled like blood, and nothing else, but he doubted he’d be able to smell any magic if Freya had decided to spell it with something nasty.
Well at least he wasn’t going to be stupidly stubborn as well and there would be no need for a post about how Caroline died because of the stubbornness, pride and ego of two men. Freya couldn’t make up for what her she or her family had done in the Dreams, and she couldn’t well change them here, but she could still make her own decisions and choices and try to make things different in whatever way possible.
“It is. I travel for work and he’s paranoid I’ll get hurt while away so I have it on hand just in case it’s needed and she clearly is in need of it now.” Her brother could yell at her later for snapping his neck so he wouldn’t stop her. It wouldn’t be the first time.
Tyler stared suspiciously at Freya for a moment longer, but he was roused when Caroline gave a feverish groan in his arms. He didn’t have any choice but to trust Freya in this case. He could try to find someone else, someone with magic that could fix this, but in the end, he would probably just end up using the vial of blood anyway.
He laid Caroline out on the grass, and poured the contents of the vial into her mouth.
Seconds after Tyler placed the vial to her mouth and began to pour the blood, Caroline’s lips formed around it, beginning to suck the vial herself. Drink the blood. Still drinking her eyes slowly opened. It took her a second to realize where she was. Why she was outside. Klaus had refused to give her his blood. She grasped the vial for herself, sitting up as she drank the last drops.
“What happened?” she asked her eyes on Tyler. “I thought Klaus…” her voice trailed off as she realized someone else was there. A familiar blonde. From The Pimpernel Outreach. “Freya?”
If Tyler stared at her suspiciously any longer, Freya really would snap his neck as well. He was wasting time that he previously said he didn’t have because he needed to get Caroline help. But it seemed she managed to make the hybrid realize that as she groaned and he went to work giving her the vial.
Magic wouldn’t have worked and Freya figured Tyler knew that fact deep down beneath the suspicion and hatred.
But then Caroline was waking up and asking what had happened.
“Oh Niklaus denied you his blood because he’s being a petulant child and doesn’t care the outcome so I gave Tyler a vial of his blood that I have for emergencies. Hello, Caroline.”
God she needed coffee.
Tyler exhaled the breath he hadn’t realized that he’d been holding when Caroline began to rouse. There really had been a part of him that was sure that it had been some kind of Mikaelson doublecross, but this was the proof that it wasn’t. He pulled Caroline in for a kiss, only after breaking it did he realize the exchange that had just happened.
“Wait, you two know each other?”
Caroline’s attention was diverted by Tyler’s kiss which she couldn’t help but return. Getting caught up in the moment. But once it broke and he spoke she snapped back to reality. “She works at the Pimpernel Outreach,” Caroline explained to her boyfriend. “Wait how do you know each other?”
Her attention was back to Freya, as something else donned on her. “Why do you have Klaus’s blood?” Judging by how he reacted when Tyler begged for the blood Caroline didn’t think it was something he gave out lightly.
If asked, Freya would clarify that she had helped Percy found the nonprofit but honestly it didn't matter all that much. It was the work that was important. As for how she knew Tyler? That was a bit more complicated. Though her second question evidently made it easier as the two were related.
“Niklaus is my younger brother. Since I travel for work, I have it on hand for emergencies.”
The comment was finished with a shrug. No need to repeat basically verbatim what she told Tyler about it.
Yeah, that about explained it. Tyler was more tangled up in the Mikaelson clan that he’d ever wanted or needed, but for once that seemed to work out in his favour. He stood. “Thank you, Freya. I mean it. I really owe you one.” He did more than owe her one, but he didn’t really know how else to express his gratitude.
Caroline stood up as well, grabbing hold of Tyler’s hand. She still had a few questions. Like how Freya could possibly be related to such a horrible person. And how exactly Tyler knew her. She knew he had his freaky sire bond thing with Klaus but she didn’t think he spent that much time with the Mikaelson family. However, she would have to ask Tyler about that later. Now was not the time.
“Yes. Thank you, Freya,” Caroline agreed. “You saved my life.”
“Yeah, of course. It was no problem at all.” Beyond the inevitable fight that Freya was certain would happen, but she'd deal with that when it happened. “I'm just happy I was home to be able to help.”
Tyler placed an arm around Caroline’s shoulder. As a hybrid, he naturally ran hot, but he was glad to feel that Caroline’s fever had already broken. He felt like he should say more to Freya, but what else could he say except for repeating the same grateful platitudes. “Ready to head back?” he asked Caroline gently.
“Me too,” Caroline agreed with Freya. Because who knew what could have happened to her if Freya hadn’t overheard her asshole brother deny Tyler his blood? She didn’t even want to think about it.
Looking back at Tyler, Caroline gave a small nod. “Yeah,” she told him. Even though the blood had cured her, she was still feeling a little weak. Going back to bed would probably do her some good.
