Klaus had actually enjoyed playing wingman to his brother a few weeks ago. It may have originally been a way to distract Elijah from asking more questions about his trip. However it had been rather amusing to try and set his sophisticated brother up with some of the most trashy women he had ever seen. It was time to do it again. Klaus needed more amusement in his life.
Which is precisely why he was on his brother’s doorstep. Actually knocking on the door. Yes, Klaus could have manners when he wanted to.
But only when he wanted to. Truth be told, Elijah hadn’t had a perfectly awful evening with Niklaus. He may roll his eyes at his brother’s taste in women or his sense of humor in attempting to set Elijah up with some of the...hot messes, he believed the term was, but he was rarely able to enjoy any time with his half brother. And it had been nice to see Niklaus so relaxed and obviously amused.
He hadn’t been expecting to see his brother that evening, and Elijah couldn’t help cocking his head slightly to one side at the sight. “Niklaus? Is everything alright?” Elijah always seemed to jump to the worst conclusions where visits from his family were concerned.
Klaus had been about to explain what his intentions for the evening were, but before he could he realized something was off. His brow furrowed for a brief moment trying to figure out what it was. “Something’s different,” Klaus said. “You’re different.”
Elijah bit back a sigh. Barely. He was different though he had at least hoped for something as banal as small talk before the subject was breached. It had been naive to think that was a possibility where his brother was concerned.
“Would you like to come in, Niklaus?” He questioned, stepping back to allow entry if he so desired.
Klaus didn’t bother to respond with words. Instead he just walked right inside the moment Elijah stepped back. “Well,” Klaus said expectantly. “Something you want to tell me?”
“May I offer you a drink?” He didn’t wait for confirmation, Elijah leading the way to the bar and splashing some scotch into two tumblers. If his brother didn’t wish to have any, Elijah would happily drain both glasses.
“And, yes, you are correct. There is something different about me. I’ve been dreaming, Brother. A different life spanning an entire millennium, always at your side. It rather seems to have bled over into my actual life.”
Klaus took the drink, downing it in one swallow as Elijah spoke. “So what you’re saying,” Klaus said as he poured himself another drink from Elijah’s selection. “Is that you’re now a vampire?”
Elijah’s head inclined slightly in response. It certainly appeared that he was. “Thank goodness our sister is a witch or undoubtedly I would be cowering in the dark still.
He drained his own glass, refilling it once more before he moved to lean against the bar. This drink he would savor.
“You don’t seem too shocked.”
“Right,” Klaus replied taking it on himself to pour another drink. “You need a ring.” A small smirk appeared on his face. “I don’t have that problem.” Hybrids didn’t need daylight rights. Especially the Original Hybrid. And well if Elijah had now joined the Original club, there was no point in Klaus keeping what he was a secret.
“Of course not,” Elijah answered with a nod. His brother was rather smug about it, though truly the need for a ring didn’t bother him all that much. In fact he rather liked the ring Freya had chosen for him. “Of course I don’t need to worry about a rise in temper once a month…”. That was said with a sideways grin toward Niklaus. Rather like PMS.
“That’s something everyone else should worry about,” Klaus retorted with another sip. What did he care if his temper rose? It was everyone else that needed to be on the lookout when Klaus was angry. But back to the topic at hand. “How have you been adjusting?”
Niklaus would take that point of view. What did he care about everyone else, after all. “Well enough,” Elijah answered. “Freya was concerned that the transition would be more difficult than I’ve experienced, really. I haven’t lost control.” Nor had he really expected to, truth be told. Elijah kept a tight enough hold over himself even before he had turned vampire.
“Not all our siblings have mastered the art of control.” Klaus himself included. Though his was more a need for power than a bloodlust. He liked having others’ lives in his hands. “Not to mention like you, our sister often spends her time worrying about us.”
“She is the eldest,” Elijah was quick to point out. “She feels a certain responsibility for all of us.” Elijah had a similar nature, without the excuse of being the oldest child. Not even the oldest son, Finn had claim to that.
“But I am quite pleased that I have managed to maintain control.”
Klaus was well aware of how Elijah was the same way as Freya. In fact Elijah tended to worry even more so than Freya did. “I wouldn’t expect anything less. From either of you.” Klaus replied. He meant it in terms of their worrying. But it did also apply to Elijah and his sense of control. “I take it that means you haven’t killed anyone?”
“Not as of yet.” Elijah was entirely aware at just how easy it would be to lose control, after all. Even if he were determined not to see that happen, he could hardly plan for every single possibility.
“Fed on a human?” he questioned taking another sip of his drink. “Don’t tell me you only feed on blood bags.” Klaus refused to even try them. There was nothing like drinking straight from the vein.
“I’m not a complete teetotaler.” The retort came with something of a wry smile. “Blood bags are convenient, of course, but there is something rather lacking when your meal is served chilled instead of the requisite 98.6 degrees.” It wasn’t terrible, just not how it should be.
“I do prefer discretion, though, as you well know. Leaving a trail of bodies seemed less than advisable. I only need enough to remove the most pressing hunger pains.” He didn’t need to gorge himself in an attempt to satisfy the ever present urge.
Klaus was more relieved to hear that Elijah did indeed drink from the vein than he thought he would be. “My thoughts exactly,” Klaus agreed. On the first part at least. Klaus didn’t care about being discreet or leaving a trail of bodies. Though the only time he actually did that was right after he had killed Ansel. “Well then. What are we still doing here? Let’s go find ourselves a drink.” And he didn’t mean the kind they currently had in their hands.
“So long as we don’t paint the town an actual red,” Elijah answered lightly. He wouldn’t be completely averse to a night out with his brother. Perhaps some brotherly bonding in their new states would be a good thing.
Draining his glass once again, he gestured for Klaus to lead the way. “After you, Brother.”
