It had been a few days since Tyler started staying with her. Everything remained perfectly platonica with him sleeping on the couch and her in her own room. But still she couldn’t help thinking about him being just down the stairs. As much as she loved having Tyler in her life, being just friends with him was difficult. But she was managing. She had to.
That was until she had more dreams. Tyler kissed her. And how did she respond? By telling him everyone needed to stop kissing her and slammed the door in his face. Yes, Matt had also just kissed her earlier that day even though they were broken up. But still, how could she do that to Tyler? Especially when all she wanted to do was kiss him. Which was exactly her intention when she woke up in the middle of the night.
She was done being cautious. Done worrying that Tyler might reject her again. She had to take a risk… again. But maybe, just maybe, this time would be worth it.
Caroline made her way down the stairs, pausing at the edge of the couch. “Tyler?” she asked hoping he was still awake.
Tyler hadn’t been sleeping very well since his night out with Klaus. It was hard to, when every time he closed his eyes he could see the faces of the girls he killed, and the memory of the rush that had come with each kill.
He heard Caroline wake up and make her way down the stairs, and he feigned sleep, assuming she was on her way to the kitchen for a midnight snack or something. He hadn’t expected for her to call out his name, and he opened his eyes. “Yeah?” he asked, sitting up to get a better look at her. “Everything okay? Bad Dream?”
Wordlessly Caroline made her way over to Tyler. Before she lost her nerve she bent down, placing her hand on the side of his face letting her lips collide with his.
Of all the things that Tyler was expecting, Caroline laying one on him was not one of them. In surprise, it took him a moment to react, but then he returned the kiss eagerly, putting his hands on her waist and pulling her closer to him.
Caroline climbed onto his lap not breaking the kiss. She had wanted this for so long. And he was finally responding. Showing her he did want her the same way she wanted him. Their night together before she turned wasn’t just a one night thing.
When the kiss broke there was a large smile on her face. “I never want you to stop kissing me,” she told him breathlessly. Telling him the exact opposite of what she had just said in her dream.
“Then I won’t,” Tyler said, because he had no intention to stop kissing her any time soon. He kissed her again, this time wrapping his arms hands around her waist and lifting and twisting with vampire speed so that she was lying under him on the couch. “What brought this on?” he asked, almost as an afterthought, as he broke the kiss.
The flip at vampire speed was unexpected. Caroline had yet to really explore her new abilities. But she had to admit it was thrilling. She could definitely get used to it. “I had a dream,” she replied, lifting her head for another kiss as her hands roamed over his back. “You kissed me.” That was it. She didn’t say more. Didn’t want to ruin the mood with repeating how she slammed the door in his face. Besides he probably already dreamed it anyway.
Tyler kissing Caroline in the dreams didn’t exactly narrow things down; that happened pretty often. But he had to take a mental count of the last dream he’d heard of her having, and then he was pretty sure he figured it out. The time she’d slammed the door in his face.
He grinned a little. “Didn’t know that was such a turn on for you,” he said teasingly, kissing her again.
“Mm,” Caroline replied against his lips. “It made me realize I didn’t want to waste anymore time.” Even if they had forever. “I want you here,” with that she pulled him in for another kiss. Her hands slipped her hands under the waistband of his pajama bottoms, ready to slide them off before she paused, breaking the kiss. “If we do this,” she paused locking her big blue eyes onto his. “I don’t want it to be a one night thing.”
Tyler’s excitement was obvious. It felt like he’d been waiting an eternity for him and Caroline to kiss and make-up. Hell, he’d even been convinced that this was never going to happen again. But here she was, in his arms again. “Caroline,” he said, planting a brief kiss on her lips. “With you, it could never be a one night thing.”
