It seemed like Caroline was always embarrassing herself in front of Tyler these days. If it wasn’t confessing her love for him it was peeps pouring out of her mouth. And he still somehow wanted to hang out with her. It wasn’t every day like it had been when her mom died, but that was understandable. She didn’t need the emotional support anymore. Just regular friendship. Since the whole peep disaster at Easter she had seen Tyler a few times. Minus the teasing she got from him, everything was pretty much back to normal. And yet, Caroline found herself making excuses to go see him. Well okay tonight was the first time she had done that but still.
Caroline walked up to the doors of Purgatory a red dress. Her hair in it’s usual golden curls. She knew Tyler was working tonight. Which was precisely why she was there. Even though she told Damon she didn’t hold what he did to her in the dreams against him, she didn’t exactly want to hang out at the club he owned. By Tyler was worth it. She grinned at him when she reached the door not even bothering to reach for her purse. “Hey,” she greeted with a smile. “Please don’t tell me you need to check my ID.
So far, it had been just a regular night at Purgatory. People came, they danced, and then they made poor life decisions and left with people they’d no doubt never see again. But it wasn’t a bad gig, and he was usually able to leave the club with a full stomach.
He hadn’t been expecting to see Caroline, but it only served to make his evening better. They’d been spending more time together, and he found himself missing her even after only a day or two apart. “I’ve got one job, and that’s to check IDs,” Tyler grinned. “How am I supposed to know if you’re not sneaking in underage otherwise,” he joked.
“Do I look like the kind of girl that would lie?” she teased right back. “But if I must,” she pulled out her ID showing it to him. There were other people behind her. If he let her in without checking they might complain. She doubted it, but still. The last thing she wanted was to make his night difficult. “Come find me when you’re done?”
Tyler would have let her in whether she showed him her ID or not, but he appreciated it nevertheless. It did save him from potentially needing to deal with people who thought just because she hadn’t shown him her ID any pretty blonde could get away with the same. “I will,” he assured her.
Caroline gave him one last smile before heading inside, and straight for the bar. She ordered herself a shot of tequila downing it and sucking on the lime when a guy came over and offered to buy her another. He was cute enough and it was a free shot, how could she say no?
A few shots later she was on the dance floor with said guy. Almost forgetting that Tyler was going to come find her when he was done with work. Almost because well Tyler was always on her mind. Still she was enjoying herself with cute guy. Whatever his name was. So she threw her arms around his neck, grinding her hips against his.
Tyler managed to cut out a little bit earlier than he might normally have done if Caroline hadn’t been there. Still, he was eager to see her again. He was less eager to see her grinding up against some other guy. His eyes flashed yellow, and he was glad for how dark the club was; hopefully no one noticed.
He took a deep breath to calm himself, and then stormed across the dance floor and grabbed the guy by the shoulder, pulling him forcefully away from Caroline. “Leave,” he snapped, compelling the guy.
One second Caroline was tipsy and dancing with a cute guy. And the next Tyler was being kind of a dick and telling him to leave. Which he did. Caroline wasn’t that surprised. She was just some random girl in a club to him and Tyler had literally grabbed him and pulled him away. She would have left too. Still… “What the hell, Tyler?!”
“That’s what I should be asking you!” Tyler yelled, raising his voice so that he could be heard over the pounding music. Well, that and he was pretty angry. “You tell me to find you after my shift and instead I find you all over some guy? What the hell?!”
Wow. Tyler was angry. Way angrier than Caroline expected. Granted she didn’t think he’d be angry at all but this was a bit much. “I was just dancing,” Caroline defended herself. But then she realized she had no reason to. Tyler was her friend. “I can dance with whoever I want!” she added getting angry herself. “You have no claim on me anymore. You made that perfectly clear.” Multiple times.
Tyler paused in his anger, struck suddenly with a feeling of deja vu. It only took him a moment to realize that something very similar to this had happened in the dreams, and he took a moment to realize the role reversal. Then, he cupped Caroline’s face and pulled her into a kiss.
Caroline eagerly returned the kiss. Hands wrapping around Tyler’s neck. She had wanted this for so long. From the second she first saw him when she moved back. And now it was finally happening. She deepened the kiss, her tongue making its way into Tyler’s mouth.
Tyler returned the kiss eagerly, hungrily. It was impossible to hear the beat of Caroline’s pulse over the din of the club’s music, but he could smell it flowing just under his skin. He was suddenly glad that the club was dark so it would be harder for Caroline to make out the dark veins that had risen to the surface under Tyler’s eyes. He had to break the kiss and take a deep breath, getting himself under control again.
“We should go,” he said, breathlessly. “My place?”
Caroline nodded in response, unable to speak. This was it. She was finally going to be with Tyler again. Although she wasn’t sure she could wait an entire car ride. She just had to remind herself it would be worth it. Better than hooking up in the middle of a club.
Caroline laced her fingers with his as they walked out of the club, to his car. Finally finding words again once they were inside. “God, I want you.” She let her hand rest on his thigh as he drove, slowly inching it’s why higher and higher. “Any chance you could drive faster?”
Waiting until they got back to his place was practically torture, but it had been years since the last time he and Caroline were together, and he didn't want their first time again to be in the back of his BMW, and he was pretty sure Caroline felt the same way. “I've wanted you for… a while,” he admitted. He didn't know when he’d become aware of it again, but the timing had never been right.
He drove as fast as he was comfortable with a human in the car, and he didn't waste any time once they finally got to his loft. He carried her up the stairs to his bed, lips locked, doing his best not to tear her dress in his desperation to get it off of her. He had to be careful not to hurt her. He’d never been with someone who didn't have strength that could match his, even in the dreams, but it was worth it. Worth all the time that had passed, all the trouble they'd been through. And when it was over, he laid back on the bed, and pulled Caroline close.
The wait was beyond worth it. Sex with Tyler was better than she remembered. It was well worth the wait. It left Caroline beyond satisfied and completely exhausted. She fell asleep in Tyler’s arms with a large smile on her face.
The smile remained as she began to dream. She was on the float in the founder’s day parade. Proudly wearing her Miss Mystic Falls sash, posing for pictures with Matt. However the smile eventually disappeared from her face. She was in the car with Tyler and Matt when Tyler crashed the car. She felt okay and was mostly worried about Matt, making sure he would be okay. That was when her head began to hurt. Caroline fainted unable to wake up. Even from her dream.
When Tyler awoke, he spent some time watching Caroline sleeping beside him, her chest rising and falling with her breath. She was beautiful, and Tyler could have watched her all day if he had wanted. It just felt right to have here there with him. But after a long while, he finally got up and got dressed.
It was creeping in noon when he finally decided to wake Caroline up. He couldn't remember her often sleeping in past noon. And so he shook her lightly and asked what she wanted for breakfast. And when they didn't work, he shook her more aggressively. When it became clear that she wasn't going to wake up, he began to worry. First he bit his wrist and placed it to her lips so Caroline could drink, and when that didn't work he started to really worry. It was obvious something had happened in the dreams, but he didn't know what. It was time to take this to the Network.
