Who: Evie and Freya, ft. Morrigan
What: Dream consequences and a mission
When: 29 March through 4 April
Where: Evie’s flat to Freya and Klaus’ and around in general
Warnings: References to death
Status: Log | Complete
It seemed that each dream since the start of the month had been one blow after the other for Freya. Finn dying and being unable to do anything to save him. Realizing that Lucien had the Ancestors on his side. Cami dying. Davina dying. Seeing what it meant to grow close to a Mikaelson - they always die was upsetting on a whole different level. Then promising to bring Davina back, only to realize that she could use the girl’s state of being not dead or alive to get the power she needed to unmake Lucien, to save her family. If there had been another way, she would have found it. But when Klaus and Hayley didn’t answer their phone and knowing they had Rebekah’s body…. Well, there was no more time to try and find another way. So she sacrificed the soul of someone barely 18 and made enemies of Marcel and Vincent. Kol’s words in her head about how she may have spent centuries searching for her family but never once did he want her…. The desperation to see if the prophecy had finally been put to rest and seeing it hadn’t…
But Freya was nothing if not good at burying things. At managing to separate her life here from the one in the Dreams. The guilt was there in the back of her mind even when she knew all the factors and the choices that led to it on all sides. The worry that something might happen to Evie because she dared to get close to a Mikaelson. But again. Just because it seemed to be so in the Dreams didn’t mean it was so here. And so she pushed forward, enjoying the relationship and the time spent with Evie. Of spending time with her brothers and niece. The work she did. The Dreams couldn’t take that from her, no matter how much constant stress and drama and death they threw at her.
In theory.
It was one of the times when she was staying at her girlfriend’s flat. Late night movies and talking and while she could easily teleport herself home, why should she? But of course, another Dream would happen. Guilt or intuition keeping her up, all of Klaus’ enemies converging on New Orleans. Being attacked and poisoned once again, Elijah and Kol bitten by the same type of bite that had killed Finn and Rebekah still cursed. The desperation to try and ease their suffering to find a way to survive while knowing the time they needed to find three different cures wasn’t going to happen. To realizing the answer and creating a Chambre de Chasse and linking her and her siblings to Klaus and then having to wait until Hayley found the cures for them.
Wincing as she started to come to, Freya sat up and held her hand to her neck where there was the feeling of blood from where she’d been sliced with the ring and its poison. Okay. It didn’t mean she was poisoned here though. The first time she’d been poisoned in the Dreams, she had only felt the effects but not the poison itself. Though given she’d woken up shot twice already….
Water, she just needed water to focus and figure it out. So getting out of bed, Freya started towards the door to get said water when she felt her legs go weak and give out on her.
“No no no…” This wasn’t happening. She refused to believe that this could actually be happening.
Dangerous to get close to a Mikaelson or not, Evie wasn’t so easily frightened away. She was an Assassin in her dreams, and a soldier in this one. Evie would stand up to any and all challenges that came her way because of her relationship with Freya. She wanted to be with Freya, to enjoy what they had and see where it could lead in the future.
Her own dreams had been almost non-existent ever since she’d dreamt about killing Starrick and firmly wrenching London out of the hands of the Templars. Evie wasn’t certain if her dreams were actually done or not, but she wasn’t all that eager to find out if there was more. After all, Assassins didn’t always live to a ripe old age.
Luckily, or unluckily, Evie was a light sleeper, so when Freya slipped from the bed, she partially woke up but didn’t stir. Not until she heard the sound of someone falling. She instantly snapped awake, left hand slipping under her pillow and coming out with one of her throwing knives as she sat up. “Freya?” She asked, flipping the lamp on the bedside table on. She abandoned the throwing knife on the table and quickly leapt out of bed and to her girlfriend’s side. “Freya, what’s wrong?”
While Freya didn’t want to worry Evie, it was definitely a good thing that Evie was a light sleeper. What with the short time table Freya had. Elijah wouldn’t know about the Strix, which meant that it would be making a list of ingredients which would need to be found, which Freya didn’t know the proper way to make the antidote. God there was a lot she needed to get done.
“Fast acting poison.”
And straight to the point. Partially because of the time constraint, but also because it was Freya. She either tended to downplay issues and buried them, or she was straight to the point. It really just depended on the situation at hand.
How much time had passed in the Dream between when she’d been scratched and when she’d put them all into the coma? A few hours? And how much time had she been poisoned while she was still asleep.
“Help me up. I need to figure out a plan of action.” Or more how to translate what had worked in the Dreams to here.
Okay, poison was very, very bad. Especially a fast-acting one. Evie swallowed her panic and effectively went into another mode. She’d focus on what Freya needed and do whatever she could to save her. Later, once everything was fine, she’d let it all out. But right now, her girlfriend didn’t need her freaking out. So she remained perfectly calm. Possibly frighteningly so, but it was also a strength of hers when she needed to think rationally instead of emotionally.
Nodding, Evie knelt down, taking Freya’s arm and slinging it over her shoulders and wrapping her other arm around her back for support as she helped her up. She led Freya to a chair, figuring sitting would be the best thing for her at the moment.
“What do you need me to do?” She asked. It was said calmly, but there was the hidden meaning of Evie doing whatever she could to help save Freya’s life.
Evie remaining calm was a good thing. Yes, Freya was used to working in the midst of chaos. It had been chaotic in the Dreams. But less freaking out when she needed to get everything in order was generally appreciated. So there was no thought paid to Evie’s current state. It was part of her training and her personality and one of the things that worked between the two of them.
Once at the chair, Freya took a breath.
“I have some supplies in my bag,” Because of course Freya travelled with things she’d need for any sort of emergency magic situation. And oh was this one as she was going to need to connect her life force to Klaus. Really any of her brothers, but with Klaus as a hybrid? That added strength would be beneficial.
“My brothers might know more about the poison, but the Strix were Elijah’s thing so I doubt it. I at least know the ingredients.”
Which would take time to gather. But at least she knew what would work even if she wasn’t going to waste energy on sending magical notes to her brothers. Not knowing how much time she had or energy? It was conserving it for now. But just like Evie, Freya was focused and calm. She had to be.
There would be a time to freak out about this, but that time was not now. Evie had the sense there was a job that needed doing, and she had the uncanny ability to be single-minded when she needed to be. Most of the time, at least. But right now? She wasn’t going to let herself be distracted from whatever task needed to be done in order to save her girlfriend’s life.
Nodding, she went to retrieve Freya’s bag and bring it to her. She didn’t know what she was looking for, so she’d let Freya look. Or tell her what to pull out of the bag.
“An antidote?” That was a relief. Evie wasn’t exactly skilled in making an antidote. Making smoke bombs was very different from making an antidote, after all. Not that Evie made use of her smoke bomb making skill because she relied on her other skills in this life.
“There is one. A woman I talk with when I go to one of the local magic shops, Morrigan, is a mage and makes potions and antidotes. She can probably reverse engineer it if you give her the ingredients and a sample of my blood.”
Just stay focus, that was what she had to do. As she spoke, Freya was already going through her bag as she always had her magic supplies with her and she was going to need the parchment and quill to write her and Klaus’ names in ancient Norse Runes, as well as his blood and hers for the spell. And candles. Even so, her voice was already strained from the effort and energy she was using.
But right. Ingredients. Pulling out a notepad, she started to write down the ingredients that Evie would need to find. Because of course they weren’t things you could pick up in your local pharmacy or grocery store.
Evie nodded, committing Morrigan’s name to memory. She hadn’t met the woman, but she thought she’d seen her on the network a few times. So that was definitely a positive in this matter.
“Okay, I can ensure she gets those things.” Luckily, Evie wasn’t squeamish, so if Freya needed Evie to take blood from her, she could definitely do it without whimpering about it. “I assume the ingredients are all things that can be found in this world?” She figured if there was something that only existed in Freya’s dreams, Freya would’ve maybe mentioned that already. But it was best to be thorough, especially when she didn’t want to miss any potential detail in trying to save Freya’s life.
As Freya was writing down the ingredients, Evie was already planning out her own moves to get the ingredients. She’d start by looking Morrigan up while she was in transit to find the ingredients.
Whenever there was something Dream related, having someone who already knew how the Dreams could be? Yeah. that was definitely beneficial than having to deal with hospitals and questions that weren’t so easily answered. Like about this specific poison. How did it happen? Why would someone want to poison Freya? Things of that nature.
Focus. She needed to focus because randomly her vision was blurring and there just wasn’t time for that. Evie’s question brought her back to the world and helped her focus.
“Yeah, they are.”
What she needed to cure the bite mark of Lucien and Marcel should those crossover for either Finn or Kol? No. That didn’t exist as she needed venom from each of the werewolf lines. But the antidote for the fast working poison? That she did.
“Here you go.”
Handing the paper to Evie, Freya did her best not to focus on the fact her hand was shaking as the poison coursed through her blood and killing her.
That was definitely a relief that the ingredients all existed in this world. Evie would retrieve them all as quickly as she could considering time was of the essence. Yet while Freya had said that it was a fast acting poison, Evie felt as though there was some way to keep the poison from killing Freya before she could get back with the antidote.
Taking the list, she gave it a quick read over and nodded a bit. “Got it. But what about you? I don’t want to leave you alone while I’m gathering these ingredients and getting the antidote.” She couldn’t quite bring herself to ask about the whole thing of potential death if she didn’t act fast enough, but it was one of those unspoken questions. And even then, she didn’t let her emotions get the better of her and she remained calm, even as she’d seen Freya’s hand shaking.
And there was the question. The one she didn’t know how to answer, even as she had started going through her bag again to set up everything she would need on the table with scroll, quill, candles, and blood.
“I will be putting myself into a coma, a chambre de chasse. It’s what Dahlia would use for us to sleep for a hundred years. It will keep me alive and the poison stilled. I’ll be linking my life to Klaus. Once you have the antidote, you’ll need to give it to me and wake me up.”
It did mean that however long it took Evie, Freya would be fine. But it did also mean she’d need to deal with over protective brothers. Well, there wasn’t much that could be done about that.
Evie didn’t precisely like the sound of the coma, but if it meant that the poison wouldn’t kill Freya while she was trying to gather the ingredients, then so be it. “So Sleeping Beauty, then?” Only more with the waking with an antidote rather than a kiss, but a kiss would probably happen after Freya was awake again and not dying from the poison.
“Do you want me to take you back to your place or have Klaus come here?” Evie wasn’t exactly wild about Klaus coming here, if only because she didn’t want him poking around in her stuff. Mostly just the map of the Middle East with all the color coded push pins stuck in it. He wouldn’t be able to read her notes on the matter. But she knew that this would involve telling Klaus, and hoping that he wouldn’t fight her on who went to gather the ingredients.
Freya wasn't looking forward to the coma herself. It was yet another spell she had done in the Dreams but not here so she wasn't completely convinced that it would work. She just had no other options and well, last minute hail Mary spells were her specialty.
“Sleeping Beauty indeed.” Without the spinning wheel. While Tangled seemed to be a more accurate comparison usually, Sleeping Beauty was all too correct in this context. As for her brother.
“Knowing Niklaus, he will demand I be brought back home… so might as well plan for that.”
Because Freya knew her brother. And it was probably better to just get herself home than him get to Evie's.
This wasn’t all that foreign to Evie to deal with, actually. In her dreams, she’d come across Clara who had contracted an illness and fainted in her arms. That was where Evie had met Florence Nightingale who had told her what she needed to make an antidote. Evie had raced across London to gather what was needed, though in that instance, she hadn’t had the luxury of Clara going into a magically-induced coma that would stop her illness from progressing. Evie had raced against the clock and managed to save her friend.
She could save Freya. Evie wouldn’t accept any other outcome in this.
“Alright, I can do that.” She said with a nod.
“Good luck with my brothers.” She was going to need it. Still, Freya did give a weak smile, “I know you can.” She had faith in her girlfriend after all. Not like she wanted to put her through this. God no. But she had no say in the matter and all they could do was what was being planned.
Swaying some, Freya closed her eyes to steady herself before lighting the candles as the Runes for her and Klaus’ name had been written the blood spread. As she chanted, the blood on the parchment began to move, linking the Freya and Klaus’ lives to one another. While she would have preferred being able to tell him before she did the spell, there wasn’t time given he’d start demanding answers and she honestly wasn’t sure the time she had. So he could just be angry about it later.
Because for now? The chanting had stopped and Freya was unconscious.
“Thanks,” because Evie felt like she definitely was going to need it. She stayed by Freya as she cast the spell, ensuring she wouldn’t injure herself when she lost consciousness. After ensuring she was comfortable, Evie went to retrieve her phone and messaged Freya’s brothers. Before doing anything else, she ensured to get a sample of Freya’s blood for Morrigan. With that done, she grabbed a blanket and wrapped Freya in it as she picked her up and carried her to her car. She drove her to the house she shared with Klaus and let him take care of her.
Once that was done, Evie sent a message off to Morrigan asking for her help. Now, Evie had some knowledge of plants, mostly just the different types of flowers and the symbolic meaning they had. So, she asked for Morrigan’s help in letting her know exactly what she was looking for, and in making the antidote once the ingredients were collected. Thankfully, Morrigan had the answers needed once Evie got to her home. Morrigan’s knowledge of plants was rather astounding, but Evie didn’t dwell too much on that. She had a mission, and she was going to see it through.
Morrigan told her what she was looking for, including pictures of what the plants should look like. The locations were not quite what Evie had expected. She’d need to take time off of work, which wouldn’t be too difficult to manage. Evie never really took time off, so she was certain her superiors would be more than happy that she was taking some time off.
After thanking Morrigan and giving her the sample of Freya’s blood, Evie returned to her apartment to get a carry on bag of clothes and necessities, call in for the time off, and to book a plane ticket. She looked at her Hidden Blades, both the dream gifts and the ones Ruby and Asami had worked on for her. She chose the one Ruby had made and secreted that away. She’d gotten good at secreting weapons away when she took overseas flights.
Then, she was finally off on her quest. It was exhausting, both physically and mentally. A couple of the ingredients only grew in remote parts, but Evie was more than up for the challenge. One by one, she collected the ingredients, and managed to keep her emotions in check, even though she was sleep deprived and really only slept when she was flying. Even then, it wasn’t exactly restful sleep. All she dreamt about was Freya somehow not making it, and she couldn’t handle that.
By the time she returned to Orange County a week later, Morrigan had determined how the poison seemed to work based on the analysis she’d done with the blood sample. And given the ingredients for said antidote, she’d already constructed how to make it. So it was actually rather easy once Evie returned to her with the ingredients. Evie was obviously exhausted and running on fumes, but she could do this.
She waited rather impatiently while Morrigan worked on the antidote, and after what seemed like an eternity, the antidote was ready. Evie thanked her profusely and sent a text off to Klaus letting him know she had the antidote and was on her way with it.
Upon arriving at his home and being let in, Evie went to Freya’s side and hoped to god that it worked. She held her breath as she gave her the antidote. She probably looked like shit, but right now that was the least of her worries.
Time in a Chambre de Chasse moved at strange intervals. There was never any real sense to it. It wasn’t dark or anything, no. Freya had managed to make her current Chambre de Chasse into the streets of Prague. Someplace she’d like to travel to with Evie when they could take the time to just relax. Oh there were other places as well, but Prague had been nice.
She also dreamed in the Chambre de Chasse, as strange as the theory might be. Only one, but it was important. Hayley had gotten everything she had needed and Freya had been tasked with making antivenom while a fight was going on outside, a werewolf in chains because they had needed her venom. Of waking her siblings. And of breaking the deal Hayley had made with the woman. After all, the venom had barely been enough for the antivenom for Elijah and Kol, if any of her siblings were bitten again. Well, Freya was ruthless and callous when it came to her family and she refused to negotiate with their safety.
And that was it. She was again in Prague, walking through the Easter Market that was part of the Old Town Square, one of the pop up crepe stands in front of the astronomical clock that was changing hours when she felt it, a prick to the heart and her eyes opened. No longer was she in Prague but in the house she shared with her brother, gasping awake as she sat up, senses all disoriented.
“Please tell me I haven’t been unconscious for five years.”
When Freya woke up, Evie let out the breath she’d held. God, it was good to see Freya was awake again. Though she wasn’t going to relax just yet. She didn’t know how quickly the antidote worked or if there would be side effects from anything. She wanted to hug Freya, but she would wait until she got her berings a bit more. She set a hand on her shoulder and squeezed, smiling gently.
“No, it’s only been about a week.” A week that had felt like a thousand years with everything that Evie had done in that period of time. She’d lost track of all the places she’d been to, and honestly some of it was a blur given she’d been single-minded and focused on where she needed to go and what she needed to get next. One step at a time.
“Do you need anything? Water? Food?”
No side effects. Freya could already tell that her mind was perfectly clear after the initial haze of waking up. While there had been some panic that she only had an hour to save her brothers and that she needed to make an antivenom, it had passed once she had put together where she was.
Feeling Evie’s hand on her shoulder, Freya reached up with her own to hold it. It felt good to be part of the living world again. Also to reassure her girlfriend that she was alive and she was fine. All thanks to her.
“Definitely better than five years. But water would probably be good.”
The touch to her hand was the very beginning of relief starting to wash over her. But even so, she kept it in check for the moment. “I’ll be right back with some water.” She squeezed Freya’s hand before getting up and going to retrieve some water.
Evie returned a minute later with some water and handed it to Freya as she sat down beside her. As she looked at Freya, the emotions that she’d been suppressing for the past week started catching up with her. She’d been far more scared about potentially losing Freya than she’d ever admitted to herself. To admit it would’ve distracted her from her mission to save her. But now? The emotions were coming and she was too tired and rundown to hold them back.
“I’m just so glad that you’re okay.” She said. She also waited until Freya was done drinking the water before she leaned in and hugged her tightly. Feeling tears coming, she pressed her face into Freya’s shoulder before she started crying.
It had to say something about the state of her Dreams that Freya was still anticipating that she’d suddenly be needed for some sort of crisis that needed a magical fix. And because she was who she was? She’d find that fix even if she’d just spent the past week unconscious. Still, she was appreciative of the water once Evie returned with it and drank it before setting the glass aside.
“Thank you.”
For the water. For getting the necessary ingredients. She could also see that Evie was getting emotional and so just returned the hug and held her girlfriend.
“I am thanks to you.”
Once the tears started, she couldn’t stop them. Everything she’d held inside for the past week came out. She was relieved that it had worked, that Freya was alive, but that didn’t negate the fear she’d had at the possibility of losing Freya. She cried into Freya’s shoulder for a good couple minutes before her emotions had run their course enough to let her breathe and talk. Finally, she pulled back to let Freya breathe and she sniffed a couple times.
“Sorry, I was holding that in all week.” She wiped at her cheeks. “Guess I was more scared about possibly losing you than I realized.”
That was the way of tears and crying, wasn’t it? Once you started, it was seemingly impossible to stop. But Freya didn’t mind, instead she just continued to hold her girlfriend and let her get the emotions out. So while Evie cried, Freya just rubbed her back comfortingly.
Still, breathing was nice and once Evie pulled away, Freya reached out and wiped away some stray tears as well that had been missed.
“It’s fine, really. But it’ll take a lot more than poison for you to lose me.” She’d been shot twice in the dreams which had crossed over and she was still standing. Thanks to vampire blood. But still. There were always dangers it seemed but nothing that was permanent.
Evie sniffed again and took a few deep breaths. “Good because I was not in any way prepared or willing to lose you.” She reached out and brushed her fingers through Freya’s hair. Evie felt like a huge weight had just been lifted off of her shoulders, almost to the point that she was going to fall over, if she’d been standing.
“Are you feeling alright? No lingering effects or side effects or anything?” She just wanted to be certain. If something was going to happen that needed to be fixed, she’d be all over that. Even if she should actually sleep because she had no idea what time it even was anymore.
Even though it shouldn’t be surprising, it did still catch Freya off guard to hear Evie say that. Which was ridiculous. They’d been together for a few months now, and yet there was still that part of her - the one in the back of her mind with Dahlia’s voice telling her she was deviant and a disgrace and no one would care if she were gone. Dahlia was dead and she didn’t haunt Freya the same anymore and yet some things were harder to let go of. So instead she just smiled some and leaned into Evie’s touch.
At least until the question.
“No lingering side effects or anything beyond feeling strange that there’s no immediate crisis I need to take care of.” Because she would. “You on the other hand look like you need to sleep.”
Evie couldn’t help but to laugh a bit at the crisis comment. “No, no immediate crisis. So you get some time to relax after your stressful week,” she teased. Then at the comment, she brushed some hair behind her ear. “I don’t even know what time it is anymore. I’ve been in so many timezones the past week I’m kind of amazed I’m still upright.”
There was definitely something to determination to save someone pushed someone to keep going no matter what. And now Evie was starting to crash now that Freya was alive and well.
“Well that’s something.” Because she also knew that Klaus would be hovering and how if there were some sort of crisis, he’d yell and rant that someone else should be dealing with it since she’d spent the past week in a coma. Really, best to not have to deal with any of that. As for what Evie next said.
“Then get in bed next to me and sleep. I have brothers to reassure that I’m fine as it is.” Because really. Evie needed sleep, and if she didn’t, Freya was not above doing a sleep spell on her.
Luckily for Freya, Evie wasn’t about to argue the point. She could be stubborn and resist sleeping at times, but right now? She’d definitely earned sleep after the past week.
“You don’t have to tell me twice. And enjoy it because I may not always be so pliable.” Evie quipped as she stood up. Her bra and pants came off and she crawled into bed next to Freya. She yawned as she settled in. “Don’t be surprised if I sleep forever.”
“Oh I certainly will. I take my wins where I get them.” It was both a joking comment, but also a statement of fact. Given her constant state of having to fix things and one crisis after the next in the dreams? Wins where they showed up were always appreciated. So for now, she would stay in bed until Evie fell asleep and go reassure her brothers after.
“Sleep as long as you need.”
“Good,” Evie mused with a smile. God Freya’s bed was so comfy. Though she wasn’t certain if it was simply because it was an extremely comfortable bed or that she hadn’t really slept in a bed in a week. “Wake me up if the world starts to end.” She was already half asleep when she said that, and it wasn’t much longer before she was asleep.
