I have an alarm on my phone to remind me to take breaks.
Who: Jemma and Kitty
What: Kitty checks in on her friend
When: 4/3
Where: The Agency Labs
Status: complete
Rating: PG-13
Kitty poked her head into the lab, wondering if Jemma was around. It had been a busy day for her, but she was taking a week off so wanted to make sure that everything on her end was ready to go - or at least set up for remote access if necessary. In her role, one was never completely off the clock.
“Hey Jem?”
The fact that Jemma didn’t feel completely overwhelmed was a good thing. Then again, it was easy enough for her to figure out how to organize things so that she could get everything done that needed to be done. Especially when it was her specific duties as head of the Science Division as well as filling in for Natasha while she healed.
Honestly she was relieved that she hadn’t been forced to demand the woman take the time off. Because really now, bullet wound to the chest.
For convenience sake though, she spent most of her time at the lab. What she had to do as interim..whatever she was could easily be done at that computer instead. So she looked up when she heard Kitty’s voice.
“Kitty, can I help you with something?”
“Yes and no!” Kitty came in, “Just wanted to make sure you’re taking breaks, and actually, you know, eating. Since I’m going on vacation for a week and won’t be around to remind you or sneak you food!”
Jemma smiled some and nodded. It was a well known fact that she could often overwork herself if she wasn’t told to stop - and even then sometimes she would ignore the reminder. Especially given the added workload she was dealing with at present.
“You don’t need to worry about that, I have an alarm on my phone to remind me to take breaks.”
“And how often do you sleep the alarm and ignore it for an hour?” Kitty asked, raising her eyebrows and grinning at her.
Jemma had the decency to at least flush slightly at the comment. Because anyone who knew her would know that was her habit, to ignore the alarm to keep on working. Still, it was who and how she was. Any attempt to change even slightly never seemed to work.
“You would have to ask Cosima that.”
“Right, sic the fiance on you, I think I can do that.” Kitty scooted closer, trying to get a look at what Jemma was working on. “Anything you’d like as a souvenir from Greece? I won’t be able to smuggle the good stuff though. Like the Parthenon.”
“When in doubt and all.” Finishing up with marking down her readings, Jemma turned her attention to Kitty, tilting her head to the side in thought. “You mean besides mountain and sage tea?” Of course Jemma would know the most popular and local tea of any given region. “A demitasse cup set might be nice.”
“Yeah I think I can swing the tea and a tea set,” Kitty promised. She should have predicted that one, she’d spent enough time in England. “I’ll have to google that cup set though.”
Jemma nodded with a smile, “Brilliant. Thank you.” Still, it was true. If a place had a tea they were renowned for, Jemma would definitely want it. Yes, she loved her proper cuppa as well, but she liked to mix it up. And variety was the spice of life, or so they said.
“Not a problem. I’ll always be near my phone if something comes up and you need help. The Blackbird can get us back in three or four hours.” She tossed Jemma a playful salute. “So I’ll leave you to your mad, mad science.”
“Well, hopefully it won’t come to that. Still, have fun.” Rolling her eyes with a fond smile at the salute, Jemma just nodded. “My favourite.”
