Who: Tyler and Jeremy What: Drinking and shooting things When: Early February Where: The woods Rating/Warning: Low/none Status: Complete
Blossom’s departure had been sudden and unexpected, but Tyler thought he was dealing with it exceptionally well. It probably had to do with the fact that Caroline was exceptionally good at keeping his mind off things, whether it was taking him to a strip club or getting so sick she nearly died.
That, and Tyler had other good friends who seemed more than willing to help keep him occupied. It was a beautiful day out, though most days seemed to be beautiful after all those days without a sun, and Tyler was bound and determined to take advantage of the sun. Which was one of the reasons he and Jeremy were out there, with crossbows and bottles of booze.
“So, just how good are you with that thing?” he asked.
Jeremy hated that while he was happy about his engagement, Tyler was dealing with a breakup. Having dealt with his own heartbreak in the dreams, Jeremy was more than familiar with how Tyler must have been feeling at the moment and knew that what his friend needed was some mindless entertainment and somehow drinking and using crossbows seemed like a good idea. A crazy, dangerous idea. He was sure that if Elena were around and knew that he was using a weapon while slightly intoxicated, she would be extremely worried. He knew his sister too well.
“Probably better than you.” Smirking, Jeremy locked the crossbow bolt into place and aimed it at one of the targets he’d set up. He lined up his shot and pulled the trigger, sending the bolt into the target, inches from the bullseye.
Tyler wasn’t too worried about getting drunk and dealing with weaponry. It was hard to be worried when the only things that could kill you were getting decapitated or having your heart ripped out.
“I don’t doubt that,” Tyler said. He’d never actually used a crossbow in real life. He generally was more hands on when he fought the things in the county. He did have a bit of experience with crossbows in the dreams, once he and Jeremy had left Mystic Falls to become vampire hunters, though he’d always prefered using a gun with wooden bullets.
Even still, he felt pretty badass, standing perpendicular to the targets, holding the crossbow extended from his body. He squeezed the trigger. “Well, at least I hit the target,” he said, even though his bolt was nowhere near the bullseye.
“Don’t worry, I wasn’t that great when I started either,” Just like Jeremy had had to learn to use the crossbow in the dream world, he’d had to learn to use it in the waking world when he’d decided to buy one. “You just have to practice.” He smirked at Tyler then retrieved a beer from the cooler they had brought with them and popped the top, “So how’re you holding up?”
“Seems a bit like overkill to be a badass hybrid and sharpshooter,” Tyler said, grinning a little. Though, when Jeremy asked him how he was holding up, his smile faded a little. “Okay,” he said. “I don’t really know what to do with myself now that Blossom’s gone. Caroline and I’ve been spending time together which helps, but… I don’t know. I miss her, man.”
“Ha! That’s funny.” Jeremy smirked and readied his next bolt but didn’t release it as he turned back to Tyler, “It’s gonna suck for awhile, but at least it’s better than my breakups in the dreams.” Out of his three girlfriends, two had actually died and the other, who he’d thought was also dead, was stuck in a prison world. “I’m sure it’ll get better though.” All he could do right now was reassure his friend.
“Better than mine too,” Tyler said. Caroline had never died in his dreams, but being broken up by Klaus wasn’t much better. And Liv… well, he’d killed Liv himself after she’d begged him to do it to save himself. Any break-up was better than that.
“I’m sure they will too,” Tyler said. “I mean, I’ve got forever in front of me. You’d think at some point it’d get better. In the meantime though, nothing wrong with getting drunk and shooting things.”
Part of Jeremy hated the fact that Tyler was immortal again because it meant there was just one more person, in his life, who would long outlive him. Not that Jeremy wanted to be a vampire or anything else immortal, but it still wasn’t easy to come to terms with. “Getting drunk and shooting things works.” Jeremy lined up his shot and once again hit the bullseye, “So long as you’re not shooting at me.” He glanced over at Tyler and smirked.
“I wouldn’t shoot at you,” Tyler said, grinning a bit. Tyler could take a couple of bolts in the chest or a bullet, and while he knew that being a hunter made Jeremy stronger than the average person, he was still only human. But his smile faded a little. “Unless Klaus asks me too,” he added. He didn’t really like bringing it up, but Jeremy had the right to know that in the real world, Tyler was sired to Klaus. It wouldn’t do for that to be a surprise somewhere down the line.
Jeremy sighed, “Well hopefully he won’t ask you to.” If anyone was going to be exactly the way they were in the dreams, it was Klaus Mikaelson. There was just no other way to think of Klaus than as a complete sociopath, “It helps that he’s not after Elena here.” So there was no reason for Klaus to try and kill him.
