The days that Tyler had to follow Klaus’s sister around were some of the worst of his life. It wasn’t that they’d been particularly awful in and of themselves - other than when she’d magically snapped his neck, Freya had seemed nice enough - but it was a stark reminder of the dreams. A reminder of exactly what Klaus could do, could make Tyler do. He hadn’t even realized that he’d been sired in this life, but in hindsight it was completely obvious. Why else would he have helped Klaus procure a deal on his rent at the art gallery? Why else would immediately like Klaus when he should have hated him, more than he’d hated Damon.
Maybe Tyler should have left again to break the sire bond, but he’d only just gotten back and he couldn’t do that to Blossom again. With Jeremy and Stefan both getting engaged over Christmas, it really drove home how bad of a boyfriend Tyler was being. If he was going to leave the county again, he’d have to end things with Blossom for good and that was the last thing he wanted to do.
He couldn’t stomach doing more than a couple of transformations a day, but he’d been trekking up to his werewolf cave every day to do them. It was the safest way. Even as a hybrid he didn’t have much control over his inner wolf, and the spell that stopped him from exiting the cave in his wolf form made him more confident about not having a pack of wolves to help him break the sire bond.
Tyler tried not to scream as the bones in fingers snapped, forming into paws. As his knees snapped and bent backwards. But he couldn’t help it. The scream ripped from his throat.
Niklaus didn’t think much about Tyler. However, his sister’s message to him put the sired hybrid back on his mind. Klaus hadn’t seen him since he relieved him of looking after Freya. He didn’t miss the hybrid. But Klaus would be lying if he said he wasn’t curious where Tyler had been.
Curious or not, Klaus shrugged it off moving on with his life. Today he was exploring some woods, making sure there was no white oak around. An original could never be too safe. That was when he heard a familiar voice. Or well cry. Klaus followed it to a cave, smirking as he stood at the entrance. Looks like his question had been answered.
“Hello, Tyler.”
Tyler had been so consumed with the pain of the transformation - which was, thankfully, less than what it had been when he’d first started his daily transformations - that he hadn’t heard anyone coming up along the cliffside that led to the cave. But Klaus’s voice cut through the pain like a knife.
His head snapped off and he stopped the transformation, reverting himself back to his vampire form. “Klaus,” Tyler growled. “What the hell are you doing here?”
Like hell was Klaus going to say he was looking for white oak. The hybrid would never admit to that. Maybe to his family, but anyone else? He would never admit to a possible weakness. “The question is,” Klaus replied. “What are you doing here?”
He crossed his arms over his chest. “You wouldn’t be trying to break the sire bond, would you?”
For a moment, Tyler froze as he tried to come up with an answer. He tried to think if Klaus knew how the sire bond was broken, but then remembered that he had told him himself. And there wasn’t a single other reason why Tyler would be holed up in a cave in the middle of nowhere, in the middle of his werewolf transformation.
Anyway, he wasn’t afraid of Klaus. “So what if I am?” he asked. “I’m not going to be your little bitch forever, Klaus.”
Here’s the thing. Klaus wanted Tyler to be his little bitch forever. Sure, he could use compulsion on anyone he damn well pleased. But there was something oddly satisfying about knowing that Tyler always want to please him. To make him happy. Klaus wasn’t going to give that up easily.
“But you see, Tyler. I want” he made sure he emphasized the word want, eyes locked on Tyler’s, “you to remain my little bitch forever.” A pause, maybe it needed more than that. “You aren’t going to break the sire bond. Ever.”
Tyler stepped back as if he’d been slapped, any hope he had of breaking the sire bond dying along with any desire he might have had to do it. This… he hadn’t seen this coming, and he gaped at Klaus. “You can’t do that,” Tyler protested, though he could already tell that Klaus was more than capable of it.
The look on Tyler’s face. The way he was reacting. Klaus could already tell that it had worked. He watched the desire to break the bond leave Tyler. That was more satisfying than he expected. “Oh, but I can,” Klaus replied that smirk never leaving his face. “And I did.
Tyler clenched his jaw, the vein in his forehead throbbing in his anger. He would like nothing more than to rip his head right off his neck. But he knew better. Other than the White Oak Stake, there was no way to kill Klaus. Even if his sire bond would let him. Even if it might mean that Tyler would die with him (though would he? He’d technically been a vampire longer than Klaus was; did that mean he was still of his bloodline?).
But there was no reason for him to be in the cave anymore. He couldn’t accomplish anything now, and all he wanted to do right now was to get Klaus out of his sight. “Get out of my way,” Tyler said, moving to get out of the cave.
Tyler was clearly mistaken about who was in charge here. He didn’t tell Klaus what to do. Klaus told him what to do. “I don’t think so,” Klaus replied remaining in the entrance, not letting Tyler pass. “I want to see what you use this cave for.” He already knew of course, but it would be rather amusing to watch Tyler transform.
Tyler clenched his jaw, the vein in his forehead bulging. There was a part of him, a big part of him, that wanted to start his transformation all over again just so Klaus could see exactly what he used the cave for. But he resisted. He could do this. “You just did,” he said. “You’re a smart guy. I’m sure you can figure it out.”
“While I appreciate the compliment,” Klaus shot back. “I want to see you transform. Now.” He practically growled the last part. He needed to make sure the sire bond still worked and this seemed like the best way to do it. He didn’t care for Tyler’s attitude or back talk.
If Klaus wanted it now, then he’d get it now. Tyler’s knees snapped backward, and he fell to his hands. He cried out as the transformation took hold, and after a couple of minutes, a large, black wolf was standing in front of Klaus.
Klaus watched with a satisfied smirk as Tyler did exactly as Klaus wished. Even when it was obvious that it was painful for him. “Good boy,” he couldn’t keep the term from coming out of his mouth. “Now, sit.”
The wolf’s tail wagged at the praise, and it’s bottom hit the stone floor nearly as soon as the words were out of Klaus’s mouth. It shifted its weight back and forth on its front feet excitedly.
This was more amusing than Klaus was expecting. Usually, in both dreams and the little experience he had with the sire bond here, Tyler was grumpy about any task Klaus made him do. But as a wolf? Tyler seemed excited and pleased to follow his every command. “Good boy,” he repeated again. “Down.”
The wolf gave an excited whine, and then laid down. His tongue lolled out of his mouth.
“What a good boy!” Klaus exclaimed before realizing just how that sounded. The way he sounded. Okay, that was clearly enough. “Transform.”
The wolf gave an happy yip, his tail thumping even harder against the ground, his greatest joy being able to please his master. The transformation back to human was easier than the transformation to wolf, and it was over in just a few minutes.
Tyler was curled in on himself, for the moment disoriented. But it only took a moment before the humiliation struck him, followed shortly after by the realization that he was lying completely naked on the ground, Klaus only a few feet away. He scrambled to his feet, wide-eyed, covering himself with his hands.
Okay, Klaus hadn’t exactly thought this through. He should have told Tyler to transform after he left. He didn’t exactly want to be around a naked Tyler. “And that’s my cue to leave,” Klaus commented turning on his heel to walk away.
Tyler didn’t move until he couldn’t hear Klaus anymore. Then, he let out a heavy, relieved sigh and sank to the floor. He’d get dressed in a moment, but for now he was just glad that Klaus was far, far away. He hoped that Klaus would never make him do that again.
