To say that Lexi was excited was an understatement. While Lexi was indeed a secret Stefan and Caroline shipper, as a result of the dreams, she was extremely happy that Stefan had found someone that he loved enough that he wanted to marry. She had so many questions for him and had been looking forward to getting home ever since he had texted her.
Pulling into the driveway, she turned off the car and headed inside. She didn’t think that Bubbles was home, otherwise they wouldn’t be having this particular conversation at the house and as she entered, she noticed the distinct lack of any beating hearts, which meant Anna wasn’t home either.
“Stefan! I’m home!” She headed to her room to put her things down, knowing that her bff would find her.
Stefan was in the kitchen when he heard Lexi’s car pull into the driveway. He was organizing boxes and cans into a couple of separate bags, donations for the local food banks. He had a lot of wealth, it seemed, at this time of year in particular. He wanted to share it.
“In here,” he called just loud enough for her to hear. He was putting boxes of powdered, mashed potatoes into the second bag. Hopefully his donations would help someone this holiday season.
He’d done all this in order to distract himself from what was coming. The talk. Talking with Lexi would make all of this so much more real than bringing it up with Wash. He knew he couldn’t tell Anna, and it felt a little weird bringing it up with Damon.
After putting her stuff in her room and taking off her shoes, Lexi headed into the kitchen after hearing Stefan call from there. “Either you just went food shopping or you’re putting stuff together for the food banks.” She smirked and went to check the coffee maker, “What kind of coffee do you want?”
“Option B.” Stefan said, turning to look at her with a smile. He leaned his hip against the counter and folded his arms across his chest. “Something festive?” It was the season for it, wasn’t it? Peppermint chocolate or pumpkin spice. Stefan was waiting for Lexi to bring up what he’d told her via text. She must have been bursting inside.
“That’s what I figured. Anything I can help with?” Lexi asked as she found the pumpkin spice coffee she’d bought at the beginning of the season. She measured the water and coffee grounds then set the coffee maker before turning back to Stefan, “Or should we just talk about how you’re going to ask Bubbles to marry you?” She couldn’t help the grin that spread across her face as she said it.
“Uh… yes.” Stefan would have blushed a bit, but he wasn’t sure if it was possible for vampires to blush. Could they? In this world? Whatever, anyway. “...I am going to ask. Soon. What do you think?”
“What do I think? I think it’s fantastic.” Lexi had pulled herself up to sit on an empty counter near the coffee maker, which had started filling the pot, filling the kitchen with the scent of warm pumpkin spice, “Have you guys talked about this before or does it just feel like the right time?” She knew that he was worried it might be too fast, but that didn’t mean the subject had never come up.
Stefan gave a little chuckle at her reaction. The grin on his face wasn’t going away anytime soon. He turned back around to finish packing up the supplies into the bag. “We haven’t talked much about it. I’m a little worried she’s going to think I’m insane, and tell me no, and move out.” Stefan chuckled, but he was only half-joking.
“Don’t be stupid. She won’t say no.” Lexi glanced towards the coffeemaker to check the level of the coffee filling the pot then turned back to Stefan, “And she’s certainly not going to move out.” Lexi didn’t see any reason why Bubbles would say no to Stefan asking her to marry him. “In fact she’ll probably say yes before you’ve even finished asking her.”
Stefan couldn’t wipe the silly grin from his face. He nodded. He could imagine that--and had, actually, imagined that a lot--but there was still that nagging fear in the back of his mind. “Thanks, Lex.” He said, and finished putting the last can into the bag. “I’ll let you know when it’s time to go ring shopping.”
Lexi grinned and hopped off the counter as the coffee pot finished filling up, “I would hope so. If you didn’t take me along I’d be extremely offended.” She stuck her tongue out at Stefan then filled their coffee cups and began making each the way they liked them.
