Discovering that Rociel was behind the theft of the Egg of Wormwood had shook Katou more than he was willing to admit. But the best way to get rid of nerves was sparring with Izzy. And if at some point he was going to go toe to toe with Rociel, he was going to have to train harder. He’d seen Rociel in action before, and while Katou was nearly certain he wasn’t as powerful as he was in the dreams, he’d rather be prepared.
He’d gone to the Institute like he told Izzy he would, and made his way to the gym.
Izzy knew better than most that Katou, like herself, was the kind of person who needed to train when feeling stressed or upset. So when he’d asked her to spar she’d agreed immediately. Knowing he wouldn’t take long, she’d changed and replenished her runes and was running through some stretches when he arrived.
“Hey,” he said, grinning when he saw her. He dropped his bag on the ground and squatted down next to it so he could pull out his sword. “Glad you were free, Iz. I gotta say, I could stand for a good fight today. You ain’t gonna believe the month I’ve been having.”
“I’ll always be free for you” Izzy told him, fluttering her lashes at him before smirking. She was so glad he’d come back, he was one of her best friends and without her brother here she’d missed having that teasing closeness with someone. “Oh yeah? I wanna hear all about it while I kick your ass” she teased.
“Oh baby, you’re making my heart go pitter patter,” Katou smirked back, tapping his palm on his chest like a heartbeat. He cracked his neck and took a stance to defend against attack. “Man, I might actually win once we get chatting.”
Izzy laughed, “I do tend to have that effect” she sighed, like it was a great burden placed upon her. “Are you suggesting I can’t multi-task?” she asked him, with a raised eyebrow before taking her own stance and moving forward to present her first attack.
“Wouldn’t dream of it,” Katou said, raising his sheathed sword to fend off the first attack. Izzy was tough, but there was no point in risking actually hurting her when they were just having fun. “Though, I dunno, End of the World business tends to give most people pause.” He followed it up by a slash to her chest.
“I should hope not” Izzy replied with a smirk, blocking the slash with her whip and sweeping a leg out to try and knock his feet out from under him. “End of the world?” she raised an eyebrow, “Sounds pretty serious”
Katou let out a grunt as he hit the ground, but he rolled quickly away before Izzy could follow up with her attack, and then sprang to his feet. “Yeah,” Katou said, taking a couple of steps back to take up a better defensive position. “Guess someone was hiding the seal to the apocalypse under their mattress and it got stolen, and guess who’s stuck trying to find it?” he explained. Of course, he was probably stuck trying to find it because he was the one who had lost it in the first place.
Izzy dropped her guard momentarily at that statement, “You hid a seal for the apocalypse under your mattress and didn’t think it might not be the safest place for it?” she asked him, lips twitching a little. While it was rather serious there was a small part of her that was amused at Katou’s thinking.
Katou saw his opening and took it, coming in under Izzy’s guard and bring his sheathed sword up so that he could nestle the tip under her chin. “Told ya once we got started I might actually win,” he said cheery. “But yeah. I didn't really know what to do with it when it first showed up. It was at the end of my dreams and you probably remember how fucked up I was back then. So I thought I'd put it there and never think of it again.”
“You got me, I was stunned still by your clever idea” Izzy told him with a smirk, holding up her hands in a mock surrender. “Yeah I remember, I guess I can’t really blame you for trying to ignore it” she said with a wry smile, apocalypse causing objects aren’t something you wanted to look at every day.
“At least I’m pretty,” he said, though his voice was a little flatter than it might normally be. He lowered his sword, and made his way back to his things so he could put it away. “But that’s pretty much the rundown of what’s going on with me right now. How ‘bout you?”
“Very pretty” Izzy told him, looking at him in concern at his tone. “Same old, same old with me really. The Bakery is doing well, Simon and I are doing well and there haven’t been any apocalypse bringing items turn up from my dreams. So it’s all been good for me. You know if you need anything you only have to ask and I’ll help in any way I can” she added, she didn’t want him to think he needed to handle things alone.
Katou gave Izzy an appreciative smile. “I’ve got a team at the Agency backing me up,” he said. “Though it couldn’t hurt to have someone else who knows their way around a weapon around if you wanted to join in the festivities. I ain’t got a clue when shit’s going to hit the fan, but I’m thinking the more the merrier in this case.”
“I think that sentiment is definitely true in this kind of situation” Izzy agreed, “So whatever you need just count me in. I’ll be there, no matter what” she promised with a smile. He was one of her best friends and Izzy was nothing if not a loyal friend.
‘Thank you’ and ‘sorry’ were words that just weren’t in Katou’s vocabulary. If they were though, Katou probably would have thanked Izzy for being there. As it was, his smile probably conveyed his sentiments well enough. “Again?” he asked, taking another defensive stance.
Words weren’t needed, Izzy knew and so she gave a grin and a nod, “Again” she agreed.
