Felix glanced at his watch as he and Sarah waited in the arrivals area of the airport. S’s flight should be landing any minute now and he was, possibly, more excited than any of them to see her. It had been a number of years, however many he’s been living in the states, since he’d last seen their foster mother other than on Skype or FaceTime, but those didn’t really count.
“So have we decided what we’re telling her about Cosima?” Felix had already begun planning Christmas at their apartment and of course that included Cosima as well as the meeting of his and Sarah’s boyfriends. Eliot, for one, was rather nervous and Felix couldn’t help but find it a little adorable.
Sarah was also excited but maybe a little apprehensive too. “I was thinking we give it a few days and see if she has any dreams, it’d be a lot simpler if she did” Sarah said with a wry smile, “But if not, I mean, it’s S right? She won’t be phased by much so we could tell her about the dreams? And everything in them? What do you think?” It was possibly something they should have discussed but they’d all been really busy lately and they hadn’t had a chance.
“Right. Pretty sure she won’t pass out upon seeing Cosima.” Felix knew exactly what she meant; if anyone was going to accept the whole “clone thing” without having any dreams it was S. While she wasn’t exactly the same as in their dreams, he had a feeling that not too much phased her. “Nervous about her meeting John? Or should I say, is John nervous about meeting S?”
“Both” Sarah admitted, “John’s trying not to show it but he is definitely worried. And I guess I am too. I mean he’s the first guy I’ve even been properly serious about, I don’t want her thinking it’s my usual kind of thing you know?” Sarah loved John, and was so glad he got along as he did with Kira. She’d found the perfect guy it seemed and she wasn’t going to screw it all up like she usually did.
Felix smirked a little, “El is nervous too. I told him that S isn’t like other mums so he has nothing to be nervous about,” He could understand why Sarah would be nervous; truthfully, he was a little nervous too. Relationships were also new to Felix, having only been in one before Eliot and that had only ended a few months before he’d met his current boyfriend. He wanted to assure S that Eliot wasn’t just a rebound. “And I know exactly what you mean.”
“Nerves all round” Sarah said, “We’re both ridiculous, it’s like we’re teenagers waiting for mum’s approval” she grinned, though it wasn’t far from the truth. It had taken them a while to settle with Mrs S but once they did they’d always hated it when they disappointed her. It was far worse than making her angry.
They may have hated it when they had disappointed her, but Felix was sure that there had been many times when she had been disappointed in him such as when he’d gone a little off the rails after Sarah had left before she’d come back after having Kira. He liked to think of that time as his personal Lost Weekend even if it had lasted for about a year. “So bloody ridiculous.” He smirked over at Sarah then glanced at his watch again, “Her flight should have landed by now, which means she should be here any minute.” He knew it would take some time to deplane and find her way through the terminals, but it wouldn’t take too much longer.
In Sarah’s view Felix couldn’t disappoint Mrs S as much as she had when she’d ended up pregnant with Kira and then abandoned her too. But they were both going to make her proud now, hopefully. “Keep your eyes open” she said giving him a sidelong grin.
Regardless of who Mrs. S may have been more disappointed in when they were teenagers, they had both more than made up for any of that and none of them could imagine their lives without Kira now. So really everything had worked out in the long run.
“There she is!” Upon spotting her, Felix’s mouth turned up into a wide grin as he grabbed Sarah’s arm and started towards Siobhan, “S!”
Siobhan had seen them just before Felix called out to her and she moved quickly to embrace them both, “It’s so good to see you chickens.”
“It’s good to see you too S” Sarah said giving her a tight hug, she hadn’t realised just how much she had missed their foster mum until she was standing there in front of them. “We’ve got so much to tell you” she added with a grin.
“I bet I need to be sitting down for most of it too” Siobhan said smirking at both of them.
Felix laughed, nodding, “Just some of it. Why don’t we get your bags head home then we can tell you all of it over a cuppa.” Chances were they’d need more than one cup of tea to tell S everything that had been going on, but they had the time.
