Who: Tyler and Stefan
When: Early November? Ish?
Where: The Hot Tub
What: Chatting and drinkinā some beers.
Rating/Warnings: Low/None
Status: Complete!
It had been way too long since the last time Tyler had managed to take advantage of Stefanās hot tub. There really wasnāt much that could beat sitting in the hot tub on a crisp fall day, drinking beer and hanging out.
Heād provided the beer - or, well, a case of it at least, and was enjoying a cold one while the hot water flowed around him. āI should really get me one of these,ā he said. Though, there really wasnāt anywhere to put it in his apartment.
One of the nice things about sitting in the hot tub with Tyler or Lexi was that Stefan could turn it up. Way up. Anna could only take it so high--98 or 99 degrees. But Stefan didnāt have to worry about cooking Tyler or Lexi. So it was up to 104, 105 degrees when they were in it together. Really hot. It helped soothe the muscles and create a relaxing environment.
Stefan lifted his own bottle of beer in a toast. āWhere would you put it?ā He asked. āBesides, you can just use this one whenever you like.ā
āGood point,ā Tyler said. There really wasnāt anywhere in his loft to put it. āThough, you shouldnāt have said that, bro. Iām going to take you at your word. You might find a hybrid in your hot tub in the middle of the night sometime.ā
Tyler took a sip of his beer, then turned to Stefan. āSo, whatāve you been up to?ā
Stefan couldnāt help but chuckle at that idea. What would Anna say if she woke up to find Tyler in the hot tub at 2am? Actually, sheād probably offer him some Sweet Tarts and jump right on in with him.
āNot much. Things at the garage have been keeping me pretty busy. Iā¦ā Stefan paused for a moment, wondering how much he should say about that damn temple. ā...I was tested pretty hard. Back in September. You remember those monsters and the weird temples that fucked with people, right?ā
Tyler frowned a little. He remembered back in September. He personally hadnāt been affected by any of the temples, though heād read about people who were. He had dealt with the mercenaries though. The first day, heād watched Blossom get blasted multiple times with their lasers, and heād had to feed her his blood. He had never experienced that feeling before, like an icy hand had grabbed his heart and squeezed, and he hoped he never would again. Heād gone out āhuntingā with Jeremey a few days later too, when the weather had been beyond strange.
āI do,ā he confirmed. āWhat do you mean, tested?ā
āIā¦ Bubbles and I were teleported into the temple, and I justā¦ I nearly lost control.ā Stefan said. āI think that was the point. I think it was testing me. I think it was trying to see if I could hold it off. Andā¦ and I passed the test. But only barely.ā He shifted in the tub, then brought his bottle to his lips for a gulp.
Tyler clenched his jaw for a moment, trying to imagine if it was him and Blossom. One of the things he had worried about the most when heād still had to transform every full moon was that at some point, his preparations would fail and heād hurt, or worse, kill, Blossom. That wasnāt a worry anymore. He hadnāt been a hybrid for long in the dreams, but even there heād never accidentally killed someone. Besides, Blossom had become stronger. He was confident that if he ever attacked her, as a vampire or a werewolf, sheād be able to fight him off. But then, Bubbles had super powers too.
āThe important thing is that you did fight it off,ā he said after a moment. āYou didnāt give in. Youāre strong enough not to be the little bitch of whatever it is thatās inside you. Us.ā
Stefan nodded. The embarrassing part--the shameful part--was that heād shied away from Bubbles after the whole event. Heād avoided talking to her about it becauseā¦ well, now he couldnāt even figure out why. Because he didnāt like that sheād seen that side of him. Even though heād succeeded in fighting it off, he felt ashamed that he had to. And that sheād seen the Ripper in him for the first time.
āSometimes it feels like itās not enough. You know?ā He paused. āIāve been thinking about Bubbles, andā¦ and how much she means to me. And I want to make a grand gesture.ā
Tyler raised his eyebrows. āA grand gesture?ā he asked. āWhat were you thinking?ā
Stefan gulped from his bottle again, then turned to look at the window of the room that he shared with Bubbles. āSomething pretty big.ā He said, and turned back to look at Tyler again. āStupid big. Think sheād say yes?ā
Tylerās eyebrows shot up to his eyebrows. He hadnāt expected that. In the dreams he had heard that Stefan and Caroline had gotten engaged, but it was still something else hearing a guy heād known for forever was planning on getting engaged. With the sister of Tylerās current girlfriend. He and Blossom had seemed to be moving that way before Tyler had taken off unexpectedly, but now he and Blossom werenāt even living together anymore.
āIād be surprised if she didnāt,ā he said after the initial shock wore off. āBut arenāt you worried about the wholeā¦ you know.ā He bared his fangs.
āHonestly? No. I mean, if she was someone else--anyone else--Iād be worried about it. But Bubbles isā¦ well, sheās a superhero. Unusually strong and fast. I trust her to help me keep in line. And weāve got vervain for her to take, so Iām not worried about that side of it, either.ā There was the whole living-forever thing. Theyād have to cross that bridge later. They were still both so young. It seemed like forever in the future.
Tyler was never too worried about losing control. Heād managed to gain a measure of control when heād been transformed into a werewolf, as he had needed to keep his temper in check. Sure, control was harder as a hybrid, but the transition from werewolf to hybrid was comparable to the transition from human to werewolf. He was more concerned about the fact that heād live forever and that Blossomā¦ wouldnāt.
He pushed the thought from his head. āWell, congrats dude,ā he said, clapping Stefan on the shoulder. āPreemptively, at least. Itās obvious sheās going to say yes.ā
āThanks.ā Stefan gave a laugh. āWell, I donāt assume that sheās gonna say yes.ā He thought about it for a moment, going quiet. Then he lifted his beer bottle and drained the last of it. āI hope so.ā Stefan really did love Bubbles. And he could see them spending the rest of her life together. Or maybe their lives. He was going to live forever, and she wasnāt. But that wasnāt something they had to consider or deal with or talk about right now.
