Rating/Warning: Low

After watching herself at Tyler’s funeral all she wanted to do was see her best friend. Also, since when were Tyler and Stefan so close in the dreams? And she was a bit disappointed that dream!her didn’t say more at the funeral. But none of that mattered at the moment. She just needed to see Tyler. Make sure he was okay.
Despite the fact that the sun hadn’t quite risen yet Caroline still found herself leaving her apartment, and her sleeping fiancé and heading straight for Tyler’s. She flew up the stairs to his apartment at vamp speed, knocking furiously on the door, not caring if it woke his roommate or not. “Tyler! Open up!”
Tyler had been fast asleep, enjoying a blessedly dreamless sleep, when Caroline’s voice pierced the fog of sleep. She didn’t need to knock so loud, he thought groggily to himself. His hearing might not have been as strong as a vampires, at least not unless it was a full moon, but her pounding on the door could wake the fucking dead.
He padded down the stairs of his loft bedroom, wearing just a pair of old Duke sweats. “Caroline, if you break down my door you’re paying for it,” he grumbled sleepily, aware that she she should be able to hear him through the closed door. He glanced out the window, and noted it was still dark. “What time is it?” he asked when he pulled open the door.
Yes, Caroline heard his comment before he even opened the door and a smile spread across her face. Tyler was alive! Thank goodness. She didn’t respond to his comment or question though instead just wrapped her arms around him embracing him in a hug. “Thank god,” she mumbled, head buried in his shoulder, arms squeezing him tightly.
Tyler didn’t entirely know how to react. If he hadn’t seen Caroline’s smile, he’d have been convinced that something terrible had happened. After his mind finally caught up with what was going on, he returned the hug. “You know if I was human you probably would’ve just broken my ribs,” he teased. “Is everything okay?”
After a long moment Caroline finally released him from the hug. “Don’t joke like that,” she said lightly pushing his shoulder. She was trying her best to sound light hearted, like her usual perky self. But after the dream she just had? Anything with Tyler being even remotely hurt was not a joking matter.
“Who said I was joking?” Tyler muttered, rubbing his ribs which didn’t actually hurt that badly. He didn’t miss the fact that she hadn’t answered his second question, but he gave a wave inside. “Come in. Try to be quiet though. I think Derek’s still asleep.” Or would be trying to get back to sleep. Tyler wouldn’t be surprised if Caroline’s knocking hadn’t woken him up. “Drink?”
Of course she was ignoring the question. This was one of those things she didn’t think she should be telling Tyler. But she needed to see that he was okay. And yeah, a drink sounded pretty damn good at the moment. Despite the fact that it was like 5 am. “Yes please,” Caroline said stepping inside then took a moment to listen for Tyler’s roommate. “I think I woke him, oops.” But at least it sounded like he was trying to get back to sleep so there was that.
“He’s fine,” Tyler said, giving a bit of a half smile. “Guy goes to bed too early as is.” He went to the cupboard and pulled out a couple of Old Fashion glass in one hand and a bottle of scotch in the other, and poured them both a generous portion of the booze. He picked up a glass in each hand, and offered one to Caroline. “So what brings you here in the middle of the night?” Or at the crack of dawn, depending how one looked at it.
Caroline accepted the drink from Tyler immediately taking a long gulp. “What? Can't a girl come see her best friend in the middle of the night?” Now that she knew Tyler was okay she was trying to downplay the whole thing.
“Not when he’s still technically pissed at you,” Tyler said, though really, most of his anger at dream Caroline sleeping with Klaus had already faded. It had mostly just been replaced with complete and utter confusion. Maybe Klaus did have good qualities that he kept buried deep, deep inside of him, but no one was good enough to counteract all the bad he’d done.
He took a swig from his drink. “But since you’re here anyway, you might as well have a seat.” He grabbed the bottle of scotch around the neck and took it and his glass to the living room, where he flopped down onto his couch.
Oh right. Tyler was mad about the fact she slept with Klaus in the dreams. Which was a little ridiculous if you asked her. Yeah, she got why he was mad in the dreams. And she understood dream bleed over. But Caroline always tried to keep her dreamself’s feelings about people separate from the actual person. So whatever. Tyler just needed to get over it.
Well, as long as he was offering. “Don’t mind if I do.” Caroline sat down on the couch taking another gulp of scotch. It was times like this she wished alcohol affected her more. “So you’re still pissed about me and Klaus?”
Tyler shrugged. “Not really,” he admitted. “I just don’t get it, Care.” She’d already told him it wasn’t his business, but it wasn’t like he could just forget about it like that. “Speaking of the dreams though, have yours been okay?” Because now that he was thinking about it, the only thing he could think of to bring her here at this ungodly hour was dream things or a fight with Peeta, and he couldn’t really see the happy couple fighting. “How are your magic twins?”
She couldn’t explain her attraction to Klaus. Not to mention it would be weird, since she had also been in love with Tyler in the dreams. Another thing she couldn’t explain. Same with being in love with Stefan thing. It was all just weird to her.
She should have known Tyler would figure out she was here because of dreams. There really was no other reason she would show up in the middle of the night. Even if she did have a fight with Peeta, she wouldn’t go to her high school hook up after. No matter how good of friends they were now, that would just be disrespectful to her fiance. “Oh right, the twins. They are still magical. Turns out their nanny is a siren and kidnapped them.” Because yes that was how her dream ended. She had just been more concerned about Tyler than her children that didn’t exist in real life.
“Sirens?” Tyler asked, his eyebrows furrowing together. If someone ever said he didn’t pay attention during Greek Mythology, they’d be entirely right. “What the hell is a siren? I assume you don’t mean those things on cop cars.”
“Bitches,” Caroline said. That was the easiest answer but she knew Tyler probably wanted more than that. “They like control men or whatever and bring souls to hell.” At least that was what Caroline understood of it. She didn’t know much about them yet other than they wanted her daughters for some reason. And were the reason Damon had killed Tyler. Not something Caroline wanted to think about at the moment, she took another gulp of her drink to keep herself from tearing up.
Tyler’s lips flattened into a line. Sirens… really didn’t sound all that out of place as far as his dreams went. After all, Silas had been able to control anyone he’d wanted. But Caroline seemed really upset about something. Part of him wanted to know, and part of him really didn’t. He put down his drink and moved a bit closer to Caroline. “Come here,” he said, opening his arms for her.
Caroline sank into his arms. Another hug from him was more than welcome at the moment. All she wanted, needed, right now was to make sure he was okay. “I don’t know what I’d do without you.”
Tyler stroked her hair. He hadn’t been sure if it was about the twins in the first place, and now he was even less sure about it. “You won’t have to find out,” he assured her, and then swallowed. He wasn’t sure if he wanted to know what happened to him, but on the other hand, the surprise werewolf transformation was something he didn’t particularly want to repeat. “Does… does something happen?” he asked after a moment. “To me?”
Caroline did remember how pissed he had been about the surprise werewolfism. It was always hard to tell whether or not she should warn people about the dreams. She wasn’t pleased with how she found out she was a vampire, but that was more in the delivery than anything. ‘You’re a vampire, I gotta go make dinner now.’ Was basically how it went. But she wouldn’t do that to Tyler, she wasn’t planning on leaving anytime soon. Despite the early hour and the fact that she left her sleeping fiance at home.
“Yes,” she finally mumbled head buried in his chest. “You die.” Saying the words out loud brought more tears to her eyes and she couldn’t stop them from falling down her face.
Tyler could feel his heart clench at the words, but he swallowed and tried to mentally shake off the chill. He’d died before in the dreams, obviously. Klaus had snapped his neck when he’d turned him into a hybrid. But what Caroline was talking about sounded… a whole lot more permanent than that.
He managed a bit of an uneasy laugh. “Well, who doesn’t?” he asked.
“Good point,” Caroline said with a small laugh through her tears. She was basically the only one who never went to the ‘other side’ but even she had technically died in the dreams, when she became a vampire. Tyler’s death this time was different though. Still maybe there would be some way out of it. No one was truly dead in the dreams. “But you’re not allowed to die here. I forbid it.”
“Oh, well in that case…” Tyler said, a hint of laughter under his voice. But he adopted a slightly more serious tone. “Don’t worry, Care, it’ll never happen.”
“Better not, or I’ll kill you myself.” Now it was Caroline’s turn to joke. Of course she didn’t mean it, but there was enough seriousness and tears for the night, or morning. It was time to get back to her cheerful self. “Come on,” she said standing back up. “Let’s go get breakfast. My treat.”
