Faye had just popped behind the bar to help out her staff, it wasn’t overly busy but she liked to help when she could. Basically she just loved working and talking to everybody who came in and the best time to do that was at the club behind the bar.
Noticing someone she knew she smiled and made her way over, placing a drink down in front of her, “What’s a nice girl like you doing at a nice bar like this?” she teased.
“A bad man done me wrong,” Kate teased right back, wrapping a hand gently around the drink glass. “How you doin’ Faye?” She lifted the glass to take a sip from the drink. It was good. Strong. Just like she’d expect from Always.
“Bastard. I’ll sort him for ya” Faye grinned, “I’m good honey, business is booming as am I. How are you?” Faye prided herself on provided good service and that included good drinks.
“Mostly good. I had this weird dream the other night. I hear that’s not uncommon around here? But I thought the epidemic would leave me alone.” Kate sighed. She wasn’t sure how she was going to admit this to her coworker--she’d spent months poking fun at him, and now she was one of the crazies.
“It gets us all in the end” Faye said, “I’m a con-artist with my own spaceship in mine. Pretty fun for the most part” she admitted, “So what are you in yours? Princess? Superhero? Housewife?” she winked.
Kate laughed. “Can you imagine me as a housewife??” She asked, incredulously. Teasingly. She shook her head, lifted her drink as if in a toast, then gulped from it. “Wannabe superhero so far,” she said after her sip. “I’m pretty badass.”
“Well no but who knows with these dreams right?” Faye teased, grabbing her own drink and lifting it in response, “Badass superhero, I could have put money on that. So what awesome power do you have?”
“Ha. Superpower. Um.” Kate said, furrowing her brow a bit. “I’m badass? That’s just it, I don’t have one. I mean, is ace archer a superpower?”
“Ace archer totally counts” Faye said, “I mean not many people are talented with a bow and arrow right? I know I’d be rubbish”
Kate snorted playfully. “It’s weird to be a superhero with a bow and arrow when I’m surrounded by people who can fire lasers, shapeshift into monstrous beings and do magic. Like, literally. Magic.”
"Ah but take away that stuff and how would they fare? I'd rather be able to rely on my skill and ability than something that could disappear" Faye said, she'd heard and seen it happen in stories a lot.
“Well, that’s a good point. I wouldn’t be at a disadvantage if I lost any superpowers. I don’t have any superpowers to lose.” Just her gumption and ace archery skills. Those were pretty awesome, but definitely not super. “Now I want to see what happens next.”
“Exactly. You see, with these dreams it’s all about perspective” Faye said, she definitely had experience in that regard, “I’m looking forward to hearing about them”
“Well… if a person dies in these dreams, they don’t die in this world, too, do they?” Kate asked. She thought she’d seen horror movies based on that very premise.
Faye shook her head, "Not based on what I've seen so far. A few people have had death dreams and by that I mean dreams where they stay dead and they've been fine here" she reassured.
“Well, that’s a relief. Because the me from the Dreams is definitely likely to get herself into deep trouble. Killed? Maybe. But definitely in deep trouble.” Kate said, and lifted her drink again. “I think I need to do some dancing.”
“From what I know the you from here is just as likely to attract trouble” Faye winked at her, “Yeah? You want some company because I could do with a little break from the bar”
“Oh, absolutely.” Kate said, breaking into a bright grin. She downed the last of her drink, managing to get it all down in three great swallows, then, ignoring the brain freeze from the ice, turned to head out onto the dance floor.
