What: rescuing Jubilee
When: Monday afternoon
Warnings/Rating: R for violence
Status complete

Laura was beside herself when she made it to Logan’s door. She was wearing her costume, the smell of it helping her focus past her worry for Jubilee. She had her street clothes over it, for now, and her mask in hand when she pounded on his door.

He opened the door, running his hands through his hair. He could smell her distress, and the costume, and he narrowed his eyes. “What’s wrong?”

Laura held up a stray dart she’d found at Jubilee’s gym. “We need to find these people. They took Jubilee.” Her voice was matter-of-fact, and her expression was serious and grim. “They know who we are. We’ve lost our anonymity. We can’t let them continue to hunt us.”

Logan’s claws popped and he growled. Outside of his immediate family, Jubilee was one of the two people you just did not touch. “I’ll get my suit, and I need to tell Vel what’s up. She needs to keep an eye out for herself an’ Eli while we’re gone. We won’t let them get away with takin’ Jubilee, an’ we’ll show them they messed with the wrong people.”

Laura nodded. “I don’t know what they want with her. This was bigger than last time.” It bothered her. They’d shot Jubilee last time, were they going to try to kill all the mutants one at a time? That was inefficient.

He growled again. “Grab a couple of beers from the fridge, then warm up the bike. I’ll suit up an’ talk to Vel.” He paused, and then added before disappearing into the house, “You’re gonna have a sister or brother. Wish I coulda told you under better circumstances.”

“Hooray.” Laura noted as she went toward the garage to do what she was told. “Don’t let anyone find out. They took amniotic fluid from Emma, it might make Velma a target.” She went to the fridge in the garage as she talked, she knew he’d be able to hear.

Some odd minutes later, Logan had his suit on under street clothing. “Lets kill these fuckers then get a steak.”

“I would prefer fried chicken.” Laura noted, settling on to the back seat of the motorcycle. She handed Logan his beers.

“Fried chicken then.” Logan knocked back his drink, and then gunned it. They sped off down the street. “They’ll have made it easy to find her. Any clues? Pick up a scent.”

“I can track them easily. Jubilee’s gym is on fifth, we’ll pick the trail up there.” She tucked her mask into the pocket, trying to clear her head before the coming fight. “If they’re expecting us, we need to do something unexpected. Something different from last time.”

“No portin’. We go in the front door. We kill anyone that so much as smells of hurtin’ people. I told Vel to call in Summers if we’re gone 48 hours.”

Laura nodded, then replied with a soft, “Okay.” She’d never done this in real life, but there was no choice. She’d said she’d hurt anyone who messed with Jubilee, and she meant it. If she had to tear them all to pieces because of that, so be it.

Logan knew they couldn’t play around. He didn’t want to play around. If they could get Jubilee they could get to anyone. “He drove up to the Gym, and sniffed. “East.”

Laura nodded. “There’s a lot of them.” She wasn’t afraid of that. “Don’t let them shoot you, the darts have a power nullifier in them.”

“Won’t matter. Take more than that to stop me,” Logan replied, sneering. “An’ the healin’ factor will fight it eventually.”

Laura shrugged. There was no sense in telling him otherwise. Hers hadn’t beaten the drugs. “They’re not even trying to hide their scent.”

“They want us to find them. Probably expect us to sneak in the back door.” He turned down a street, and raced towards a building. He pulled out his phone and sent a text, then put it away and affixed his mask. “That’s it. Get ready. We find Jubilee, we end this, an’ we go to the roof..”

And Logan crashed his motorcycle right through the front doors.

Laura nodded and put her mask on. It was pointless if they already knew who she was, but it made this more serious, more real. She shoved her claws into the first guard that was still alive after Logan plowed through the doors.

Monica looked up from her experiments and sighed. “Early. Inconsiderate.” She shook her head, then turned to address an underling. “Stay behind ze door, get the sample while I keep them distracted.” She tugged the privacy curtain around her subjects and picked up her gun, pressing the barrel against Jubilee’s head.

Logan cut through guards, keeping the last one alive. He shoved her against a wall and pressed the tips of his claws to her throat. “Where the fuck do you keep your prisoners.”

The guard gibbered, and Laura kept going down the hall, following Jubilee’s scent. There was a door at the end, the kind that slides into the wall. She frowned. “She’s here.”

Killing the man, Logan followed Laura. “Do you smell that bitch?” He punched his claws through the wall and started to cut it open.

Laura nodded, but she didn’t need to bother. “I’m right in here.” Monica’s voice was loud enough to carry into the hall. The man behind the door skittered away from Logan’s claws. “Ze door was unlocked.” She noted with a sigh.

Laura charged into the room, but stopped when she saw Jubilee unconscious with a gun to her head. “There’s a man against the wall.” She told Logan.

Logan looked between the woman and Jubilee, then sheathed his claws. “We know. Sorry darlin’.” He flicked his wrists out, throwing a knife towards the woman and another towards the man against the wall.

The man ducked, and Monica shot the tip off of Jubilee’s nose, wincing as the knife hit her. “Move again and I will shoot her. I want one thing, and then you can all three leave.” She looked at the man against the wall. He shook, and her expression became more severe. “It’s only ten ceecees, you can afford to lose it.”

Laura growled, but the man moved closer. She couldn’t risk her wife’s life. Not for anything. “We’re going to kill you.” She promised.

Monica shrugged. “So be it. But not today.”

“There’s something you should know about us,” Logan said darkly. “Our kind don’t like to stay dead. You ain’t gettin’ my blood, darlin’, an’ you ain’t walkin’ out of this place alive.”

Monica shrugged again. “Perhaps. Time will tell.” The man finally got close enough to Logan to do the blood draw. He shook as he went to stick the needle in Logan’s back. Monica touched a control pad attached to her belt. She needed this to work, and she had to detonate the building as soon as they had the sample. “But if you move, you will not walk out with her.”

"The last time people fucked with my blood their test subject went batshit crazy," Logan said, calmly. He was memorizing her scent and his mind was racing through scenarios. The Jet should already be cloaked above them and Laura just needed to get Jubilee there. He'd pursue Monica.

“Thank you for the warning.” Monica said with a smile. The man backed away when he had his sample and darted toward Monica, standing behind her. She pressed a button on the remote on her belt with her eyes closed.

The back end of the room exploded. It was just enough to destroy the bodies of her subjects and the back wall. She shoved the body of her underling away and made a break for the opening. As promised, Jubilee was far enough away from the explosion not to be harmed. There were three cars on the other side of the wall, and a bunch of guards. They immediately began shooting the room full of darts, hoping to keep Logan and Laura occupied long enough to get the sample.

Laura snarled, dazed by the sound and lights from the explosion. She covered her ears and eyes, and the second wave of explosives at the entrance kept her off balance.

“Get her to the roof,” Logan shouted, running pell mell into the hail of darts. He used the rest of his knives, saving the last one for the back of Monica’s leg. Then he was in among the guards, slicing and cutting and roaring his anger. This was the man who’d blown himself up in a car bomb. His ears were ringing, but he could smell his targets, and that was enough.

Monica went down, but she got the sample to one of the men and he bolted to the nearest car. It took off down the road, peeling rubber as it went. She was expendable, but Logan’s DNA might hold the key to success. “For humanity,” she gasped, then tried to get to her feet and hobble to another waiting car.

Laura snorted and tried to clear her head. She could smell Jubilee, and knew she had to get her wife out of the burning building. She cut the restraints off, picking Jubilee up in her arms. The roof would be hard to get to, considering the fact it was probably on fire. Laura made a face. “Can you run? We’ll take one of their cars.”

"Nsgagfas..." Jubilee muttered groggily, and tried to move along with Laura.

"You're one of those," Logan growled. "Always tryin' the same shit, always hurtin' people, or usin' us to hurt people. Don't you fuckin' get it?" He grabbed Monica and spun her around, claws pressing lengthwise into her cheeks, blood welling up. "We're all the same. Except you choose to be the monster. I don't."

He sliced deep enough to scar, then slammed his forehead into hers. "Though sometimes it's tempting."

Laura eyed Jubilee a little and swept her back up in her arms. “Thank goodness you’re little.” She noted, before darting off toward one of the cars. The men inside saw that their leader was probably going to die, and they were smart enough to run away. Mostly.

Monica laughed at him. It was a lunatic, unhinged laugh. She didn’t get a chance to say anything before he smacked her in the head, knocking her unconscious.

He threw her over his shoulder and ran towards the car Laura was headed to. "Blackbird can meet us down the road!

“Great!” She replied, and waited just long enough for him to get in the car before speeding off. “Can it pick up your bike?”

Logan looked back at the building. "Ain't nothin' left of it."

Laura sighed. “I’m sorry. I’ll help you buy another one.” Somehow.

"I can afford it. Jubilee okay?"

Laura looked over at Jubilee. Other than her nose, she didn’t seem to be hurt. “Are you?”

"Ow..." She scrunched up her face. "My face hurts. That bitch is nuts."

“That is definitely true.” Laura turned to look back at her. “Where are we taking her?”

Logan thought about that a moment. He didn’t want to take her to the ranch, too much risk of her getting word out to someone who could cause harm there. Not that Cerberus didn’t know about it, but they kept the whole powers business hush hush.

“I think I know a place. It’ll do until I get in contact with someone for a more permanent solution. I’ll have Frost pick apart her brain.”

“Okay.” She saw the blackbird ahead of them and stopped next to it. “Do you need help dragging her in?”

“No.” He bonked Monica’s head on the door as he carried her out. He tied her to a seat and took the conn. “There’s a place I found when I was in the army. It’s out of the way and it’ll do while I fast-track a real fuckin’ supervillain jail.” Because they apparently needed one.

Laura nodded and helped Jubilee into the jet. She assumed Logan knew where they were going, so she left him to it. She wanted to snuggle her wife. “I’m sorry I wasn’t there to keep you safe.”

“I zapped some of them in the face,” Jubilee said blearly. She squinted at Monica. She owed that bitch some fireworks to the face too.

“Lets do a bit of renditioning,” Logan said, as the jet shot through the air. If he was alone with Monica, he might very well prove what kind of monster he could be.
